Search engines like Google, Bing & Yahoo are after ONE thing. The most relevant content.

If you can build out your website in a way that is ready for SEO (as discussed in the last lesson) and create quality, relevant content, you are going to have a bright journey ahead of you within the online world.

The thing that most people stress about is being a "writer", you DO NOT have to be a writer to be successful online.

You simply need to communicate with your audience, the same way that you would with a friend or a family member. And if you put the emphasis on helping people, you are going to be able to build trust, which is going to lead to long term and sustainable success online.

SiteContent, a Writer's Dream Platform

As both a Starter/Premium member, you have access to the SiteContent platform here at Wealthy Affiliate. This platform offers you some incredible features as a writer that will lead to more efficiency, accuracy, and speed with your content creation.

You can access the SiteContent platform through the SiteRubix menu.

SiteContent offers you some unbelievable features that are going to make your life as a "blogger" much more efficient.

  • 100's of critical grammar and spelling checks
  • Duplicate content checker
  • Automated publishing directly to your website
  • Writing goals and accomplishments
  • SEO analysis and checks
  • Content structure analysis
  • Ability to template content
  • Vocabulary enhancement suggestions

This is where you are going to be creating all of your content moving forward. You will be setting writing goals and leveraging the "feature rich" platform for writing. If you are worried about your writing skills, the SiteContent interface is going to help you understand where you are making writing errors and help you correct them in a very efficient manner.

It is going to be your go to writing tool moving forward and it is exclusive to Wealthy Affiliate members only!

I have created a little walk-through of SiteContent, showing you around the platform and how to best benefit from it.

DISCUSS VIDEO: Creating Your Initial Framework of Content

Task 1: Creating Your "About Me" POST

To establish a brand online in any niche, you need to build trust with your audience. The best way to initially do this is through an "about me" style page. Every successful website will have some information about their brand, who they are and why they want to help people.

Your first task today is going to be to create your About Me page and you are going to be doing this directly within the SiteContent platform.

Within your Templates tab, you are going to see that you already have the framework for your About Me page already outlined.

Simply click on the About Me template and it will take you into the SiteContent editor. This is where you will be creating your content for your About Me page.

The first thing you are going to want to do is choose a title that is appropriate for your about me page. There are several options that I suggest you choose from in terms of your naming convention.

  • About Me
  • About NAME (ex. About Kyle)
  • About SITE (ex. About Real Deal Affiliate, About RDA)
  • About Us

The most natural and the option that I have always used because I feel it resonates and creates the most trust is "About Me" or "About Kyle", because it is the most direct. It feels like I am here for you and I am here to help (which is the case with every site I create).

Then you will want to populate the content. Do know that this is just a guideline, as you edit this post you can add new headings and of course you are in full control of the content and your story.

This is not a rigid exercise here, you are YOUR OWN brand and you can build out your content in any way you like, but this will give you a good guideline here.

After your are done doing this you will be click the Publish button in the right corner, just above your editor. This is going to allow you to publish directly to your website (see below).

Upon clicking Publish, you will get a pop-up that will allow you to choose how you want to publish the content. This is a 4 step process.

Step 1: You will want to choose your website that you want to Publish to, in this case it will be my "basketballskillsanddrills.siterubix.com" website.

Step 2: Choose "Post", not a "Page". The reason is all POSTS allow for comments on them and this is a page on my website where I am going to want to allow people to leave comments and feedback. Pretty much every article you publish moving forward will be done so as a "Post".

Step 3: Choose the user. If this is a new site, you will likely only have an Admin user. That is fine, choose that as your user.

Step 4: Choose the URL plug. Leave it "as is". You shouldn't need to change your URL plug, this is something that you can leave.

The Click Publish. Upon doing so, SiteContent is going to run a duplicate content check, and then publish the content to your website. Since you wrote your About Me page it will be 100% unique.

Task 2: Adding Your "Privacy Policy" PAGE

All major affiliate programs and all advertising platforms require that you have a "Privacy Policy" on your website. This is a formality more than anything and it is very much a standardized document.

You are going to want to load up the Privacy Policy Template from your templates.

Upon doing so, you will get a standardized Privacy Policy page. You are just going to need to make a few edits within the content to update this Privacy Policy and make it relevant to your website.

Change YOURDOMAIN.com => Your Website URL

In the case of my website, I changed it to basketballskillsanddrills.siterubix.com. There about 10-11 instances of this that you will need to update within the Privacy Policy.

Then you will want to change:

Change YOUREMAIL@YOUREMAIL.com => Your Email Address

This could be any email you want, you could even create a free gmail account for the purpose of this. Or if you don't feel comfortable leaving your email at the moment, this can be something that you provide to people at a later date.

Upon updating the YOURDOMAIN.com and YOUREMAIL@YOUREMAIL.com to your website details, you will want to Publish the Privacy Policy to your website.

Publish as a Page.

The reason you want to create this as a Page, not a Post is because Pages don't allow for comments. You don't want people commenting on your Privacy Policy, whereas you are going to want to allow for comments and engagement on the rest of your website (as it is good for rankings).

**Note: Your Privacy Policy is duplicate content because it is a stand document. SiteContent is going to warn you about this when you attempt to publish, and that is completely fine. Publish anyways, we are going to be blocking the search engines from seeing this.

After you publish your Privacy Policy, you are going to want to log into the back office of your website (Wordpress Admin area) through the SiteManager or through SiteContent. When you are within the editor for this page, scroll down to the bottom of the page and you will see the following settings.

Check off the Robots Meta NOINDEX and the Robots Meta NOFOLLOW. These will make sure this page (which is all duplicate content) does not get indexed in Google. The Privacy Policy is the ONLY page you want to do this for as it is duplicate content.

You are all set with your first few pages of content on your website. Kudos to you for your hard work thus far, in the next lesson we are going to be covering navigation on your website and how to create custom menus. ;)

Tasks 0/3 completed

2. Create & Publish Your "About Me" POST
3. Create & Publish Your Privacy Policy PAGE

Kyle or whoever lol:

I kind of had a plan before I joined WA and I kind of want to incorporate it after I watch all this training and become a premium member. I have kind of had 5 niche categories picked out even before I joined WA. These 5 categories all kind of relate to each other and I can pick multiple sub-niche's from each category. I want to build a site one by one for each of these sub-niche's and have them link to each other. I kind of already have a brand type name for this whole thing and created social media accounts (Instagram, Facebook, and Google +) that can be used by all these sites since they can all kind of relate to each other. What do you think?
Reply
JasonGB Premium
Sounds like you have a plan, and a well thought out plan. That is a huge benefit. Just make sure that your niche is something you really love, especially if you will link many sites...as you'll need to write a lot...it is never hard if your sites are about subjects you love...
Creating linked and common social accounts makes sense, I do the same and it works well...as long as each site makes sense with each other. If you had one site which was health and another was football...it would confuse readers.
Wishing you great success

I need some extra brainpower to narrow down my niche if needed. (sorry if this gets a bit lengthy)

I’m a graphic designer/animator at heart. Not the best, not the worst, no bachelor’s, self taught, but I love it. I’m wanting to design my site around helping new online businesses establish their brand identity...logos, logo animations/intro videos, advertisements, and maybe even help with Wordpress sites since we’re learning that here. Pretty much exactly what I will be doing for myself while building my business here lol. And for those wanting to start a business from scratch, I’ll send them here ;)

That’s what I really want to build a business around, but I’m still concerned it’ll be to broad.

I think what you are wanting to do is awesome. I would love to be taught about graphic design. I have no imagination nor the talent to even create a GOOD logo.
I don't know really how to answer this, but I can tell you who might be the person you could ask about this and that would be Loes. Typer her name in the search bar on your Wealthy Affiliate page.
She is awesome and I believe she might be able to help you.

Hi Dvilla, just a thought, why don't you look at the Fiverr.com site check out their graphic designers and find out what they do, how mush they are charging etc, but only as a niche gathering exercise. it will give you some ideas of where you want to specialize in,

when i create an interest to build a web site am i building a business i want or can it be one im already associated with? For example if my wife has a event planning business and i want to list it but include catering and ballon decorations and themes can i?
Reply
HeidiY Premium
You certainly can do event planning. Whatever you choose you need to be interested enough to write content about it, provide information that your readers want to know.

This is the basis of an online business, writing content that your readers want to read, so if you can do that about event planning then go for it.

If you have your own hobby or passion you could choose that. You can post in here any ideas and people with more experience than I will be able to provide feedback.

During the process of putting my Niche and Theme/Templet in place I notice that the title for the web page was there, but my theme/templet was not what did I do wrong? I pick it out I thought I put it in place. How do I go about making the correction. I went back through the training, but it looks like I would have to put the title, and website address Title in place again as well did I understand that right if so is there any way around doing it all over again. And where would I find your answer?

Ok I think I understand what an affiliate website is. Basically you make content that says how great a product is even though it's not your own and you add links to it? So for me I make handmade items so I could use Walmart or Etsy just as an example? Where I buy my yarn and tell people how great the yarn is and add links to my website to Walmart and etsy? And post pictures of my finished products on my site so the people can see how great it came out. Is that the jist of it?
Reply
newmarketpro Premium
You got it right Tristian.
I think you understand how affiliate marketing works now.
Basically you are creating your website, publish content that helps people out there who are searching for information about the product. And if they decide to purchase the product from the link on your website, you'll get the commission.

:)
Joe
Reply
Thank you so much for a quick response! I'm really glad I understand!
Reply
That's a GREAT niche idea for you, as it's something you know intimately about. You can even do "product reviews" on your site, comparing different yarns. Another thing you can do on your site is a "how to" section where you talk about how to choose/select a yarn and you can break it down further into Blankets, Sweaters, Socks and for each of those, you can write a paragraph or two about the types of yarn you use for those.

You can also do something regarding "accessories" like needles and storage containers for your knitting needles, etc.

Each of those could be discussing the products and doing reviews.

What a super niche you have there!

I already have a niche and I am building my website, but I do have a basic questi:on: If several people have the same niche and similar websites, aren't they in competition to each other? If lots of people choose "weight loss" , there would be a lot of websites with the same subject out there and it would be harder to get customers to me particular website, right? Just wondering ...
Reply
chender684 Premium
Competition is good. You just have to be better than the rest. Are you up for the challenge? Do you know a lot about your niche? Are you good at doing research on your niche to create content? If you answered yes to these questions, then go for it and be better than everyone else in your niche.

not sure what you meant by a 'non-linked rubix content page to wp' if deleting the page deletes the link in sitecontent!

you seem to be talking about starting over with your page in sitecontent and publishing to your wp site?

deleting pages, well I guess that's new pages you are talking about with no traffic or rank yet...but it is possible to write directly into wp too, it is not a requirement to link all pages to sitecontent

Hello Geoff;
WA is not a scam, the lessons are like going to college (which I never had a chance to do), but courses are very expensive. This way you can take your time and understand everything. Even having the community help you with any questions you may have.

For $19 the 1st month, and $49 each month after, doesn't seem like much for a whole course. You can always drop out whenever you want. But if your website starts making money (depending on
what your niche is) and how you can help others, it can pay for itself. Wishing you all the best.

You can keep your websites with the free hosting forever, never have to pay hosting.
That is incredible value in itself.

But unless you upgrade then you don't get access to the premium membership content.

The owners are running a business,a very honest, very valuable business and as premium members we get an amazing value for the cost. WA is the best training hands down, with awesome community and as premium you get up 50 hosted domains, keyword tool, site content writer...the list goes on.

if you pay for any another keyword research tool, just by itself it will cost more than this

At the end of the day if its of value, you'll join,if not then i wish you well.
Hope to see you in premium

You need to add your Privacy Page to your menu. I have mine in the footer menu but you can decide which menu you attach it too.

Go to WP dashboard, menus, then find the menu you want and add it either as a main menu item or a sub menu depending on where you want it to appear.

Open the page in WP and scroll right down the bottom you will see noindex and nocomment check boxes, click those and update, and your done.

Sorry Aalia0423 - your question is not clear to me.
Have you chosen a domain name?
Sounds like you want to target single mums and promote discounted children's clothing to them?
Is that right?

I'm by no means an expert (new like yourself), but it sounds like you 'really' want to give advice on being a single mom, divorce, etc. and then leverage sales of baby/children's clothes.

Why not do both on one site and go with a name like:

AaliasAdvice
Aaliasmommyhelper

There's a LOT of traffic that gets generated from blogging in the mommy advice area, so if you're into blogging, this could also be something to leverage. Just a thought...

Hey Allesha ! First I'd like to welcome you to WA premium. You made a great choice in coming here to pursue your dreams.

As for your niche if I were in your shoes I would try to angle for the money saving, helpful, single mother approach. Some will argue that that is too broad of a niche, but I think that you could pull it off.

Domain names are not very important for ranking purposes anymore. Google uses a smart scanner to figure out what your site is about without such a large emphasis on you telling it.

I wouldn't pick a name like beerstore.com for your site, but singlemomhelp or Alleshasmomblog or familyfriendlytips would work. By being a little broader you would have plenty to write content about or do reviews about.

You'd have a multitude of ways to monetize this as well. From clothes to family friendly budget trips. If you are comfortable with social media I believe that you could blow this up big quickly. I've taken this approach on a site and believe that it will do well. You'll always have people that disagree and that's fine. Just prove them wrong.

If you already chose a domain name or want to talk about it some more feel free to pm me and I'll be happy to offer my thoughts, advice, or whatever you feel that you would need to help you out in your online journey. I've always been the guy that roots for the underdog.

Best of luck to you!

Hi, Aalia. I think you could promote your children's clothing niche and discuss why you started your site -- being a single mom-- as well as promote WA to help other singles mothers start their own business all on one site.

Or, you could create the children's clothing site first and get it up and running. Then later you could launch another site discussing topics for single mothers, etc. You could also link the two sites.

I hope this helps and I wish you the best of luck.

What theme are you using?

I went back over things again and found the delete button for the website, it was way down at the bottom of the page. I had to keep checking but I did find one theme where the graphics came with it. I tried to preview the site but said it hadn't got to the server yet, so will try again later. Thanks for replying.

Did your theme come with documentation? If so, download the files and documentation. This will be a zip file, open it up... if you click on the documentation it will walk you through for that specific theme.
Also, it may come with demo content. Upload that also.

High Bill, went thru this same issue; bottom line have to spend a little coin to get this going- your in Business. Site support does not help you with this, they just tell you to contact your Theme developer or WP--to set up have to pay a freelancer to set things up properly-not told to us! I consulted on of our Own Members LABMAN- His name is Craig Hughes. Set my site up for $100 and is beautiful and ready to go --www.cellphoneportablechargers.com what we get is just a Blog Roll page when pick our themes. Lot of them need right plug-ins etc., to finish sites properly. Hope this helps Gary L>

Bill, you can change theme at any time, any of your information will be transferred from theme to theme. You can look at, activate, and try as many themes as you want, one at a time. You may also need to get the plugin Woo commerce to get the theme you choose to work. There are many that are made specifically for stores. Store one is one that I saw.
Reply
ericcantu Premium
When you select a theme, you're able to see a live preview of what it can look like, but this isn't going to be what it looks like when you first activate it. It will be in its bare bones state, and you'll have to customize it to have it look similar to its live demo.

Most themes have documentation that come with them, and usually have instructions for customizing it so it looks like the demo. The more complex the theme, the more of a learning curve there is to achieving that customized look.

That's why early on it's usually best to choose a simpler theme, like the way Kyle shows in the training. As you progress and get more comfortable customizing a theme, you can get better at customizing them and using themes with more bells and whistles.

Hi Guys

Question: If I set up a website, build content etc and 5 months down the line I decide to stop my premium membership to WA does that website still belong to me?

How does the legalities work? Must I be a member to run any websites I start and build from within WA?

Thanks in advance for your help
Reply
Bryan8 Premium
Nope, it's your site. You'd have to move it to another host within 30 days
Reply
kdforsman Premium
This is probably a question for SiteSupport, as you may have features or plugins on your website that are only available to premium members. If you downgrade at a later stage, it may be easier to move the whole website and domain to a different hosting provider. This will only work if you have purchased your own domain name - you won't be able to transfer it if it's a siterubix.com domain.

Another option - is to do what I did, which is wait until the Black Friday sale (annual) take advantage of the discounted rate and go yearly - it's saving me a ton. Cheers, Karen

It was $299, which was a big saving and the cool thing about that is you lock that price in forever. Cheers, Karen

You are most welcome - even if you go annual - the black friday deal just tacks on the end of that which is a great saving in the long run if you're serious about your online business.

What Bryan8 said is true, BUT it has to be a domain that you purchased and not the SiteRubix domain. SiteRubix is a sub domain, meaning you aren't the owner.

Do I need to wait till I think I am finished with the "about me" section before publishing, or should I publish as soon as I have some content? I seems that this could take a long time to finish and I am unsure if I should delay until I complete this or move forward while it is still a "work in progress"/
Reply
Kyoko817 Premium
As long as you have the content followed by the course instruction, I think you can publish the post, but I would encourage you to put out "about me" page as soon as possible. I know the page is about you and you want to think through it, but don't over think and naturally introduce yourself. Eventually about me page is where quite a lot of people visit, so having this page is crucial.

From my own experience, I see more success by strictly following the successful people's instruction than changing around based on my feeling. This step-by-step course is created for a reason. Your concern is not significant for the overall website building process, but the key is to follow the steps.

Good luck!

Hi there,

I have just published the privacy policy to my website as a page so no area at the bottom of this was for a comments section, but it appears there is a section at the bottom of this page for commenting?

Can anyone please help and tell me what I have done wrong?
Or could this be because of my chosen website design?
Or does this show due to me being the admin?

Thank you in advance!

Hello Tabitha;
Go all the way to the bottom of the "Privacy Policy" Page and check off the 2 tabs.

NOINDEX this page/post

NOFOLLOW this page/post

This should do it.

Bill

Thank you for your reply Bill.

I have done this and also published this page as a 'page' with the expectation that there will be no comments section below it like it shows on the 'about me' post.

Any further ideas?

Thank you.

Tabitha,
Were you able to get this solved?
If not, go into word press, go to site manager and log in. Go to pages on the left menu. When it brings up your privacy policy don't click on it. If you hover over it you will see edit and quick edit. Click on quick edit. Over to the right there will be a box that says"allow comments"
If it has the check mark in it, click on the box to take it out. This should solve your issue if it hasn't been solved already.

I have been wondering for the past few days as to how long on average does it take for a new member to start earning a living from one's business assuming that one dedicates sufficient time and effort towards building the business.

Does WA have some sort of stats available on this?

Here is some information according to one of the WA owners, Kyle.

Here is how your journey could look, a realistic journey.

MONTH 1: Accomplishments
Website Set Up
SEO Set-up
Initial Framework of Content
Indexed by Google, Bing, Yahoo
You have 5-10 posts on your website
Earning Potential: A few sales, just getting your business foundation started

MONTH 3: Accomplishments
Content Starting to Get Ranked
Experience Some Big Breakthroughs in Search
Have Made Your First Sale or Two
Traffic is Cumulatively Starting to Grow
Search Engines are starting to give your site "authority"
You have 30-60 posts on your website
Earning Potential: $0-$500 per month

**Kyle's Note: It took me 3 months to make my first sale online. Here I am 15 years later full time online, if I quit in the first month I would have never gotten to the experience of lifelong and very fruitful business online. There is something to be said about being patient and not expecting "instant" success in business.

MONTH 6: Accomplishments
Traffic is starting to flow, ideally 100 uniques per day
Sales start to increase with consistency, several per week
You are truly starting to gain some expertise and brand
Bing/Yahoo start indexing your site at a higher rate
Engagement on your site starts to increase
You have 60-100 posts on your site
Earning Potential: $500-$3,000 per month

ONE YEAR:
Traffic is really starting ramp up. You can expect 500+ visits per day
Google is granting your site with some serious authority
Companies and other blogger start to reach out and connect with you
You are making WA sales and other affiliate sales daily
The Vegas Super Affiliate Conference is in your sites
You have 100-150 posts on your website
Earning Potential: $3,000-$10,000 per month
Reply
I'm wondering that myself.

Great break down, everyone is different of course and different people achieve success at different rates.

One thing remains consistent though. You have access to everything that you need to create and grow your business online here at WA. The time and energy you put into your business, the results you will get out of your business.

If you need a hand with anything at all moving forward just ask.

I had two tabs open so I could create as the video played. My web site now has my About me saved as a non page and it appears next to the privacy policy. Where on the video it appears on the home page. I was not planning to have my about me on the home page but rather just navigation information. But why did it go the menu on the top instead on the home page?
Reply
Kyle Premium
That is right, your homepage is your blog roll by default and you want that. Perfectly fine and as you create new posts, they will be chronologically be added to your homepage.

I recommend that leave your home page a blog roll by default versus a static home page.

This makes your website feel much more active and engaging and Google actually prefers this as well. Every time you post it will then go to your homepage which is preferable.
Reply
This may already have been covered in this discussion but I'm having issues with my privacy page. I selected it as a page and published it to my site, when I go to the site it's there and I can click on it but when I click Home it disappears.

Any help would be great!
Reply
LeeMcQuay Premium
What do you mean it disappears?
When you are in your home page, you should see the words "privacy policy" in your top menu. It will depend on your theme as to where it might be located. May even be at the bottom.
I don't think you will see the page itself.
Reply
So in the video it shows he has a Home page and then he created the privacy policy, which showed up as it's own page. So after I publish my privacy policy as a page I go to the site and there it is right beside the Home page. Upon clicking the Home page from the policy it turns into Blog. I can search for policy and it comes but there is not page to access it from the default page. Hope that makes sense.

Hi, all themes behave differently, but, in general
you probably need to specify what your front page displays, which you can do under "reading" under your dashboard settings, there you will indicate whether you want a blog roll (your latest posts) or static page.
Then you should customize your menu, for this go to your
menus section make sure you have a menu set up and your pages has been added, then look for menu structure, there you can customize it.
To have a Home button in your menu: click to edit your front page and where it says navigation label you can write HOME or whatever you prefer, then the address to that page will be your domain. Hope that helps!
Reply
Something I just noticed is when I go to publish the privacy policy it doesn't say publish to site, like in the video. I'm making sure I hit templates and select Privacy Policy and edit it for my site. I go to look at it and the page selection is still not there AND when I check visit the page button people can make comments on it. I have the same theme as the Kyle used so it would make the training easier.

Thanks for your help in advance!

I'm sure that some of them could, and should, be eliminated. One thing that you might want to do is check your site load time. Check it before and after eliminating extra plugins. Anything over 3 seconds to load may be costing you visitors and commissions. As to what plugins to remove it would depend somewhat on If they are hosted here or elsewhere.

Thank you. Now I have to decide whether I should keep my woocommerce as a drop ship website or make all my products affiliate products. I don't know which would be a better income right now because it might make them not come back to my page if I push them towards an affiliate. ????

It sounds like you are unsure about direction - it might be a good idea for you to go through the training on a free site from scratch and see how Kyle sets up a website. You will then know which plugins are basic and what you would actually need.

Most importantly Kyle sets websites up for good traffic and SEO whereas you've had someone else input a lot of stuff, you want to make sure no steps have been skipped in that, so learn the ropes in here and then you'll know what to do with your other site

I notice you are a starter member and not premium, the sites hosted here do not require akismet, ssl or cache but with your other hosting you need all those.

Hello. I just joined WA today. I recently set up a website and use the Yoast SEO plug in but here it seems All in One SEO is preferred. It seems to me Yoast is better since it gives you content analysis on improving your seo. Is there an advantage to using All in One SEO that I'm not seeing?

Either or is completely fine. They both work well and if you are more comfortable using Yoast, you can use that. It is the Apple vs. Samsung of the SEO plugin world.

OK, so you need to place it in a menu.

Go into the back of WordPress.

Click on Appearance and then click on Menu.

You see Posts and Page options.

Click on Page and now click on your Privacy Policy.

Click Add to Menu - this should be our Primary Menu that you are adding to I believe.

Update and see if you can see it on your site.

Its late here so memory hazy but I think that should be correct APolanski and I also had awful trouble at this point, but good news... we will get through it.

The fact your mind is all over the place is a sign you are learning. When I was going through the first few lessons of the green course, my mind did the same thing. I almost switched to the black course, yet I knew focus needs one thing at a time. I am now in lesson 10. There is so much WA offers, it can be overwhelming. I suggest starting with the green course.

When it comes to a focus, you have some great places to start. Bed & Breakfast tips, Getting your GED, Parenting tips for parents with teenagers, etc. Pick one and create a blog site through the green course. This will give you a foundation to work from.
