Search engines like Google, Bing & Yahoo are after ONE thing. The most relevant content.

If you can build out your website in a way that is ready for SEO (as discussed in the last lesson) and create quality, relevant content, you are going to have a bright journey ahead of you within the online world.

The thing that most people stress about is being a "writer", you DO NOT have to be a writer to be successful online.

You simply need to communicate with your audience, the same way that you would with a friend or a family member. And if you put the emphasis on helping people, you are going to be able to build trust, which is going to lead to long term and sustainable success online.

SiteContent, a Writer's Dream Platform

As both a Starter/Premium member, you have access to the SiteContent platform here at Wealthy Affiliate. This platform offers you some incredible features as a writer that will lead to more efficiency, accuracy, and speed with your content creation.

You can access the SiteContent platform through the SiteRubix menu.

SiteContent offers you some unbelievable features that are going to make your life as a "blogger" much more efficient.

  • 100's of critical grammar and spelling checks
  • Duplicate content checker
  • Automated publishing directly to your website
  • Writing goals and accomplishments
  • SEO analysis and checks
  • Content structure analysis
  • Ability to template content
  • Vocabulary enhancement suggestions

This is where you are going to be creating all of your content moving forward. You will be setting writing goals and leveraging the "feature rich" platform for writing. If you are worried about your writing skills, the SiteContent interface is going to help you understand where you are making writing errors and help you correct them in a very efficient manner.

It is going to be your go to writing tool moving forward and it is exclusive to Wealthy Affiliate members only!

I have created a little walk-through of SiteContent, showing you around the platform and how to best benefit from it.

DISCUSS VIDEO: Creating Your Initial Framework of Content

Task 1: Creating Your "About Me" POST

To establish a brand online in any niche, you need to build trust with your audience. The best way to initially do this is through an "about me" style page. Every successful website will have some information about their brand, who they are and why they want to help people.

Your first task today is going to be to create your About Me page and you are going to be doing this directly within the SiteContent platform.

Within your Templates tab, you are going to see that you already have the framework for your About Me page already outlined.

Simply click on the About Me template and it will take you into the SiteContent editor. This is where you will be creating your content for your About Me page.

The first thing you are going to want to do is choose a title that is appropriate for your about me page. There are several options that I suggest you choose from in terms of your naming convention.

  • About Me
  • About NAME (ex. About Kyle)
  • About SITE (ex. About Real Deal Affiliate, About RDA)
  • About Us

The most natural and the option that I have always used because I feel it resonates and creates the most trust is "About Me" or "About Kyle", because it is the most direct. It feels like I am here for you and I am here to help (which is the case with every site I create).

Then you will want to populate the content. Do know that this is just a guideline, as you edit this post you can add new headings and of course you are in full control of the content and your story.

This is not a rigid exercise here, you are YOUR OWN brand and you can build out your content in any way you like, but this will give you a good guideline here.

After your are done doing this you will be click the Publish button in the right corner, just above your editor. This is going to allow you to publish directly to your website (see below).

Upon clicking Publish, you will get a pop-up that will allow you to choose how you want to publish the content. This is a 4 step process.

Step 1: You will want to choose your website that you want to Publish to, in this case it will be my "basketballskillsanddrills.siterubix.com" website.

Step 2: Choose "Post", not a "Page". The reason is all POSTS allow for comments on them and this is a page on my website where I am going to want to allow people to leave comments and feedback. Pretty much every article you publish moving forward will be done so as a "Post".

Step 3: Choose the user. If this is a new site, you will likely only have an Admin user. That is fine, choose that as your user.

Step 4: Choose the URL plug. Leave it "as is". You shouldn't need to change your URL plug, this is something that you can leave.

The Click Publish. Upon doing so, SiteContent is going to run a duplicate content check, and then publish the content to your website. Since you wrote your About Me page it will be 100% unique.

Task 2: Adding Your "Privacy Policy" PAGE

All major affiliate programs and all advertising platforms require that you have a "Privacy Policy" on your website. This is a formality more than anything and it is very much a standardized document.

You are going to want to load up the Privacy Policy Template from your templates.

Upon doing so, you will get a standardized Privacy Policy page. You are just going to need to make a few edits within the content to update this Privacy Policy and make it relevant to your website.

Change YOURDOMAIN.com => Your Website URL

In the case of my website, I changed it to basketballskillsanddrills.siterubix.com. There about 10-11 instances of this that you will need to update within the Privacy Policy.

Then you will want to change:

Change YOUREMAIL@YOUREMAIL.com => Your Email Address

This could be any email you want, you could even create a free gmail account for the purpose of this. Or if you don't feel comfortable leaving your email at the moment, this can be something that you provide to people at a later date.

Upon updating the YOURDOMAIN.com and YOUREMAIL@YOUREMAIL.com to your website details, you will want to Publish the Privacy Policy to your website.

Publish as a Page.

The reason you want to create this as a Page, not a Post is because Pages don't allow for comments. You don't want people commenting on your Privacy Policy, whereas you are going to want to allow for comments and engagement on the rest of your website (as it is good for rankings).

**Note: Your Privacy Policy is duplicate content because it is a stand document. SiteContent is going to warn you about this when you attempt to publish, and that is completely fine. Publish anyways, we are going to be blocking the search engines from seeing this.

After you publish your Privacy Policy, you are going to want to log into the back office of your website (Wordpress Admin area) through the SiteManager or through SiteContent. When you are within the editor for this page, scroll down to the bottom of the page and you will see the following settings.

Check off the Robots Meta NOINDEX and the Robots Meta NOFOLLOW. These will make sure this page (which is all duplicate content) does not get indexed in Google. The Privacy Policy is the ONLY page you want to do this for as it is duplicate content.

You are all set with your first few pages of content on your website. Kudos to you for your hard work thus far, in the next lesson we are going to be covering navigation on your website and how to create custom menus. ;)

Tasks 0/3 completed
1. Watch the "Creating Your Initial Website Framework" Walk-through Video
2. Create & Publish Your "About Me" POST
3. Create & Publish Your Privacy Policy PAGE

Hi again, I may be being really stupid but exactly how do you get paid? if someone goes on my site and I talk about something they would like to buy off amazon say then how does amazon pay me? I haven't linked in my bank details or anything so unsure still how it works. Also how do I put in suggestions on what I think would benefit people? is it just by using the key words or do I have to put on links to their websites etc.
Reply

Keyword research will guide you as far as what you choose to write about. If you recommend something that is available on amazon you will send your visitors there with an affiliate link so are credited with any sales made from that visit.
amazon will tell you in their affiliate agreement exactly how you will get paid.

Don’t go calling yourself stupid! Lol that’s what all the training is for :)

As you continue through the training you’ll get a better understanding of how affiliate programs work. When you’re part of an affiliate program, say through amazon for example, and one of your readers clicks through one of your links taking them to amazon where they buy the product, that link of yours they clicked through is a specific affiliate link they’ve given you that tracks that purchase and that’s how amazon knows to pay you a commission.

When you become an affiliate through whichever merchants you choose, you set up your PayPal info for example and as your commissions add up the merchants sends them to your PayPal account :)
Reply
Thanks Eric that's great! I've just finished the part on training about key words. When do I learn about joining as an affiliate? and does it show me how to add links in to certain websites and which companies are affiliates? I am totally new to all this and I know I am probably running before I can walk! ;-)
Reply
ericcantu Premium
Don’t worry. Kyle gives you everything you need when you need it. There’s no point yet in connecting to an affiliate program when you’re just learning about how to research content the right way :) content is king, and as you start learning how to research and structure your reviews and posts, you’ll be introduced into finding affiliate programs for your niche. you’ll get there. One step at a time.

Thanks, how do I get an affiliate link?

Lol you’ll learn all about becoming affiliates with merchants as you progress through the training. Build your site right and use the keyword research you’re learning about and you start building the traffic needed for affiliate links to make sense to have :)

Hi,
I'm not sure why that's happening but it sounds like you might have the post "stickied".

If you go to posts/"all posts" then mouse over that post you are mentioning in the list, choose "quick edit" and if "make this post a sticky" is checked, that'd be it. Just uncheck and save.
Reply
KristylaureL Premium
I just tried that and the sticky note wasn’t checked. :( I even tried to delete the entire menu and start from scratch but than I viewed my set, and refreshed, and that particular post was still visible on the site. All the others were deleted. So weird.

Hi,
That's all a bit confusing, but nice workaround!

Hopefully the real issue becomes clear at some point in the training. As long as it looks how you want now, though, that's great!

I hope someone can clarify something for me. After watching the examples given on the "How to Make Money Online" video, I understand completely how you would profit from the NFL snack helmets, seeing as the website focuses solely on that product. However, in the example of the supplements, if your website sent them to bodybuilders and they went off on miscellaneous shopping (say they bought weight loss products instead), is there still a commission to be made? Or, say they bought a supplement but it was different than the one they clicked on your website in the first place? I may be over thinking things, but thanks in advance!

If a visitor, for example, goes to Amazon from your site, you'll be credited every sale he's doing, no matter what.

I think it is, once they enter through you, your affiliate code is there. Some even have "cookies" for many days or like WA for months.

Need help regarding the privacy policy. I'm not seeing the policy in my website. I tried to delete the first one that I did and tried to re-do it. When I try to publish it as post, it's telling me that I have to change it because it's a duplicate and google might not rank my site. What's the next step? Thanks.
Reply

YES still post it. It is duplicate but continue with training it's going to show you how to not index that page so you don't have to worry about the duplicate content just click to
post it
Reply
Zappades Premium
First, you probably made a privacy policy *page*, not post and you need to add it to the menu manually in your dashboard, appearance, menu.
Next, all our pri..pol... are duplicate and that doesn't matter. You can publish it anyway. You then have to edit the page and at the bottom mark the two fields that say NOINDEX and NOFOLLOW.

Just opened my first site and it looks pretty cool, that's what my friends said at least. Now I'm just struggling with a specific niche. I'm thinking about doing a lifestyle page that talks about fashion- shoes, clothing, collectors items and accessories while promoting them and reviewing them at the same time.
Any things you guys think I should consider as I approach this?

Cheers,

Sounds like a great niche, have you thought of collectors fashion items and accessories only instead of all fashion? Fashion is a huge area and competitive too. I love fashion and am curious about a more specific niche such as collectors or vintage of something

Congratulations! :D I can't wait to follow you on your journey and see you succeed!

I personally think that anything related to fashion (shoes, clothing, and accessories) as you mentioned is a great niche and topic to talk about. New fashion trends are always popular especially among young adults/teens I believe! If you can keep up with fashion trends and what is modern I think it is definitely a great idea!

But most importantly, find something that you really enjoy so its fun for you to promote and talk about!

Best of luck!

I am thinking a a niche which comprises of healthy food products which are gluten and gmo free- maybe fruit or food.

Also interested in food preparation ideas , be it appliances like the acti-fry or insta pot which cuts down on cooking time; food preparation products, or actually prepared foods.

Also books geared towards avoiding specific foods from the diet

I'm with you in the niche of healthy eating. My reasoning is due to many health problems, I had a friend that referred me to watch a documentary and when I did, it literally changed my life forever! It was one about clean eating and what the foods we eat do to our bodies, it really opened my eyes and gave me the hope of a longer life. Whole food plant based eating, and avoiding animal products and byproducts, processed food and how our bodies react to different foods. If you haven't already watched these I'd def recommend watching them especially with it regarding the niche you're watching to dive into! 'What the Health', 'Cowspiricy' and 'Sick, fat and nearly dead' all are very good, if you'd like I can send you the link to the trailer, I actually just posted it on my fb page so my friends could watch it, bc it's just mind blowing. Anyhow, good luck and best of wishes❣

Much appreciated. Thank you.

I have been eating a lot healthier for the past 8 years. Primarily due to my family being genetically inclined to be obese. Secondarily due to having kids and wanting to be in the best health for them and hubby.

I love how good food makes you feel. Your body actually craves it (crazy huh).

I have been able to help others do the same for free but interested in earning from it too. (Ha)
Reply
Absolutely❣ It is crazy how your body begins craving something that once tasted awful, but bc of the body's benefit it got from that food it then begins to be a wonderful taste. That alone excites me in beginning my journey with becoming vegan, it's incredible when we truly think of the power of our minds, and the power we have simply by rewarding our bodies, minds, spirit and souls. When we put it that way we then allow ourselves to soak up incredible knowledge and perform immense personal growth

I just recently purchased and Instant Pot, and I LOVE it!! The down side is there really isn't all that much out there as far as recipes go, well, other than the old faithful pot roast, etc...
I'm thinking that if you had something that offered recipes for the Instant Pot that were outside the boring old normal, you just might find a very unique niche. (Did you know that you can throw a whole potato on top of a roast, and that by the time the roast is done, you have a "baked" potato cooked to perfection?)

I would like to say hello, and depending on the experience during these first few days, I hope to utilize the entire program. The one and only criticism I have is the overuse of two words in the beginner's videos..."process" and "niche". And it isn't so much the use as it is the gross mispronunciation of them...I'm sorry, it just drives me nuts.
I'm looking forward to learning, and look forward to seeing many of you at the top!!

LOL, that is the proper "english" pronunciation.

Southern America does pronounce things differently sometimes.

Program = PRO gram (not prawgram)
Process = PRO cess (not prawcess)

Quiche = KEESH (not kitch)
Niche = NEESH (not nitch)

You will find that most of the world outside of the US will pronounce these words in their correct manner. :)
Reply
Lol, that makes me laugh, bc during a vaca in Vegas I was sitting next to an Englishman and told him how much I love the accent in the UK, and he replied without missing a beat, "Yes, it is the proper English tongue, but you Americans went and f'd it all up."
Reply
LOL I completely understand what you mean. "niche" has 3 pronunciations.

Merriam-Webster: nich also ˈnēsh or ˈnish
2a : a place, employment, status, or activity for which a person or thing is best fitted finally found her niche
and
2d : a specialized market
would seem to apply.

I prefer the nich (nitch) pronunciation. The neesh sound really bothers me.

As for "process", pro·cess \ ˈprä-ˌses , ˈprō- , -səs \
Merriam-Webster shows that too. It doesn't bother me either way.

Why isn't "quiche" pronounce Kwitchy? LOL It's QU like in Quarter.

"Many themes show some sidebar widgets by default until you edit your sidebars, but they are not automatically displayed in your sidebar management tool. After you make your first widget change, you can re-add the default widgets by adding them from the Available Widgets area."

Hi everyone. I'm thinking to start a niche about tech reviews.
For example: keyboards, pc's, smartwatch, smartphones, TV's and that kind of stuff
still looking for a name...it will be something like bestoftechreviews or something like this.

but i have some questions about that...

1)Can i use the names of the companies (and items) or they have privacy policy about that- that i am not allowed to use names for reviews for example about apple xiaomi samsung and many others (or even the products)

2) Is there a market out there for that...(i know it sounds silly) I mean lets imagine that i have readers that they read my posts...will they go for example to amazon and buy them through my links? (im kinda new and i don't know everything about affiliate)

3)I've tried to find blogs like mine and to be honest i found a few but the most of them don't focus only on these items that i want to focus...do u believe that it is something good that will attract readers???

Thank you. All the best,
Ioannis

To find out which company’s have affiliate programs just go to google and type in smartphone affiliate programs or affiliate program smartphone and you should get a list of company’s that have them. Kyle & Carson make this a very seamless transition and are completely aware of your concerns. They're professionals and have done this countless times.

Create a support ticket and let support know you'd like to transfer your site over to WA and they'll tell you exactly what you need to do. And if there's anything you don't understand, don't hesitate to ask them to explain it in a way you can understand :)

I was hoping to get some advice on a domain name choice from someone with more experience.

I currently have a site I'm working on for helping retired people start an online business to add income. However, because the culture's view of retirement needs to change I thought about using the domain name enteringmyprime.com instead of addedretirementincome.com. This would also provide a broader umbrella for other retirement offerings like coaching, planning, etc.

I was a little worried that since the domain name does not have the keyword retirement, that it might cut down on the amount of organic traffic.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
James

All in One SEO question: Video around 5'50" says use 140-160 Characters and had the text 153 characters. Most search engines use a maximum of 320 chars for the home description.
However today 15 Feb in USA I get 165 characters. Most search engines use a maximum of 320 chars for the home description.
Q1. Can I increase this to 320 Characters or is it better to stick to my 165 characters? (Kyle said 162-163 would be OK but not much more)
Q2: How would this draft be for effectiveness:
"At Dynamic Nutrition & Health we are focused on helping all levels of runners and athletes improve their performance and recovery through nutrition and health advice"

Q3. I thought I'd go with sub-niche of runners nutrition and health tips but POSSIBLY broaden to other athletes on the site later, in terms of content creation - am I on the right path?

1. You want to keep it shorter... in the 160 ish range. Don't go for 320 in your description.
2. I think that sounds good to advertise your site.
3. That is a great plan. Definitely start smaller and try to build up later. (I started to broad and had to refocus.)That way you will become more of an authority in the subject and retain more users who need specific information.

DynamicNutritionandHealth.Siterubix.com is my domain name, I can go with this name without the SiteRubix later. Q5. Can you think of how I can include the word "athletes" or "runners" in my Home Title - given my Domain name is so long?
Q6 - Can you think of 5 characters to cut out to get Home Description from 165 back to 160?

I have "Dynamic" in there as my total 3 niches are:
1. Facebook use for direct sellers (personal name). I have a high quality eBook, bonus PDF's already setup through another course.
2. Gen Y's (probably professional jobs, worked 5-10 years alrady and realise that is not what they want for 40-45 years interested in learning to work from home or make money online) this is www.DynamicRise.com (setup back in 2015)
3. This DynamicNutritionandHealth - sub-niche for runners (later althetes).
I WAS going to focus on Niche #1 first as I already have 2 owned domains, but they are not ranking/bringing any traffic currently so that's why I've committed to WA Premium to get them monetized ONE at A TIME :-)

Hello!

I am just about to create my first website after much deliberation over what my first niche would be. I have a question about how important the words you use in the URL are, should the URL contain keywords or would it be more impactful for it to be more personal eg. healthyeatingforweightloss vs. myweightlossjourney

In the training it says the URL creates your personal brand and if I'm going to link into products to make money I feel it should be more personal BUT I could be completely wrong!

Would love to hear from you all and any feedback on the URL's (if they even matter) would be great!

Thanks in advance

Nicola

myweightlossjourney makes me think you are going to talk largely about a specific regime that you found worked for you, while healthyeatingforweightloss gives the impression of having options. If that makes sense? If I was looking for a healthy weight loss regime, I'd be more likely to go for the healthy eating link.

I can see the whole searching for 'low hanging fruit' keywords can be overwhelming. I do understand it but not because I am a fast learner because over the years I have 2-3 times before tried to start a business online and always keywords was an integral part of being successful.
I learnt that slipping your keywords into your articles with it still making sense came easier with practice.
I normally found going through the videos again until I 'got it' and moving the slider/timer at bottom of video to repeat a part until 'the penny dropped'! (English saying, meaning until I 'got it'.)
Well that's my tip for what it's worth! Hope it helps.

It all starts with a title. Choose your keyword, then center your article around that keyword with your title. Then include it somewhere within the first paragraph and then write naturally. There is a good chance you will naturally include it again throughout your content.

That is the approach I take when I write content. If you have an engaging and captivating title, that is a good starting point for any content.

I know it's a lot of information when you first start out, take a breather and know that you're not the only one feeling this way. :) Many of us who start out will feel overwhelmed but as we learn day by day, one step at a time, things will start to come together and understanding will sink in.

Now to your questions on menus.... Did you create one? If you did, did you make sure it was assigned to Primary Menu under Display Location?

Maybe this training video will help: You can't find your Privacy Policy page is probably because you haven't added that page to your main menu. Pages are not seen on your website unless it's added to a menu or to your sidebar widget.

When you write Posts, those show up right away on your Blog roll, for most, is their home page.

If you have more questions, just ask. :)

I hope this helps,

It takes some of us a little longer for things to click into place and I find the best thing is to go back through the as many times as necessary to be able to implement the lesson.

Sometimes it's good to have the 2 browsers open side by side so you can watch the training, pause and make the change on your website then move on, if the change you made doesn't show then rewind and do that bit again.

Things will get easier and start to click into place more quickly as you go along.

How I fixed the issue, I went to the Wordpress menu, I clicked on Appearance, then underneath Appearance should appear Theme, Customize, Widgets, Menu etc. Click on Menu, from there you should see your page, which you should only have one which is you privacy policy. There should be a check box next to privacy policy, check that box and hit the add to menu button.
Your privacy policy should appear on your homepage now.

I have two questions about the SiteContent platform (I may find the answers as I go deeper into using the platform...if so, let me know):

1. I'm currently developing on my local computer and later migrating finished work to the WA host. I would like to use SiteContent, but is there a way to download documents so I can keep my localhost in sync?

2. For existing sites can I import content I've already written?

Thanks,

Hi James. I am not very technical so not sure if this will apply but I do all or most of my composing on my computer and then do a copy and paste. This way I have a saved copy of my work as well. Not sure if this is what you are needing or not. :)

Thanks, MsMerry! That's a good workaround. I'm still getting oriented...just learned about the features of SiteContent today. It sure would be nice to have a SiteContent capability on my localhost computer.

Any thoughts on a comic book niche? I'm a geek. There. I said it. Haven't collected in many years, but once a geek, always a geek. I've passed the gene on to my youngest who now is an avid collector. Any thoughts on the viability of such a target audience? Available affiliate programs for....???? What kind of stuff, other than comic books? Any weigh ins on this?

How about comic book collectibles? Then you can link to people selling collectible figurines and dolls and toys all associated with different comic books. And also link to collectible comic books too. All great revenue streams. It’ll do really well I think.

Good luck!

what about figurines of the characters, any type of merchandise-- I've seen things ranging from the comic books themselves to t-shirts, sunglasses, lighters, bedding, throw blankets, costumes (for comic-con and/or Halloween), and I've even seen make-up pallets geared towards teenagers that are themed (either the plastic case it's in has something related to the comic book character or the colors (of the eyeshadow or lipstick) are related to the character either in the actual shade of the color or sometimes just the name of the color. They have backpacks, pencil pouches, cups and mugs, pretty much anything you can buy for "regular" use has a themed version of it out there somewhere. I would search Amazon for products (like Spider-Man merchandise) and just see what comes up. then you could brainstorm from there what item/items or what specific character you want to focus on or if you want to offer a specific product (like pajamas or backpacks) with different themes for several of your favorite characters.

Good vibes only!!!!!

Keyword data doesn't matter when choosing a niche, there is a ton of opportunity within any niche and 10,000's of keywords that you will be able to target.

So focus on keywords as you build out your content.

Target keywords within every page or post.

Each page or post on your website should have a keyword focal point. Keywords are what lead to rankings and what lead to traffic. So when you are looking to come up with an idea for a new post, do some keyword research and find a phrase that is related to your niche.

As you build out your content and start getting rankings under these terms, you will see your traffic (and revenue) cumulatively grow. Just know that not every page will rank, but over time a good percentage will. The game of numbers!

When you choose a domain, you are going to want to choose something that is "brandable" versus something that has keywords within it. The reason this is the case is because as you build out your website, you can target as many keywords as you like within the content (that is how you will rank).

I have created a discussion here outlining the process and what to look for when choosing a domain name: This should help you out here and if you ever want to run any domains by me, simply let me know and I will give you some feedback.

PS. You can host up to 25 of your own domains here within the Premium membership on our state of the art hosting platform. :)

Whatever suits you is the way to go. Don't worry about a bunch of people seeing it before you're ready, because it will likely take Google a while to rank you high enough to drive a lot of traffic. That being said, starting it on your own domain will help in the long run because Google will take into account how long the site has been up, and how often/consistently you post.

You don't have to buy a domain elsewhere and transfer it to WA. You can buy one here at WA. The free site is basically for beginners to learn how to build a site. If you choose not to continue, you're not wasting your money. If you want to continue, you can buy your own domain for 13 or 14 dollars per year. When you do everything can be transferred. If someone clicks on your old domain, they will automatically be sent to your new one. After 30 days your old domain will be removed. I hope This helps. By the way free hosting is included with your membership.

You can buy domains here at WA directly through the SiteDomains platform. It is a very seamless system and we have implemented some very advanced features so you do not have to deal with the headache of DNS, whois privacy, security, upsells, or of managing your domains within a completely different account.

You can access the SiteDomains platform under the main SiteRubix menu, or you can get to it directly here.

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/websites/domains

A .com domain will usually run you under $14 per year, with other top level domains varying in price. This includes absolutely everything. You can register any of your domains there and upon purchasing, they will instantly be ready to build your website on!
Reply
DNicholas Premium
Longevity is just one of the things google looks at as far as ranking. There are other ways to get ranked high in Google. Keywords, content, comments, replies all come into play. Just because you haven't been around long doesn't mean you can't get ranked on page 1.

Yes, that can definitely be the direction that you head for your niche. Choose one of them, not both.

Your story is about how you want to help people in the given niche, why you are interested in it, and you can share a story about who you are.

I know that your url is protected, but yes you are in a public domain where anybody can pick up ideas. The thing is, what can they do with it. If you become the authority with your website and your idea, people will come to you and not go anywhere else.
Reply

Ideas cannot be protected, only specific content. Who is to say that someone else didn't have the idea before you did? If you're really all that concerned about a unique idea (creating a new product or service, say), you should consult with a qualified attorney in the country of your residence. Asking a bunch of folks who are here to learn the ins/outs just like you are are not qualified experts in the field. Even as a certified paralegal, I would be remiss to offer you any kind of real advice on this forum. Pay an attorney if it's that important, but remember, ideas cannot be either copyrighted or trademarked, much more goes into those kinds of intellectual property.

Thanks for replying...I understand about seeking further advice through an IP lawyer etc, I mainly wanted to get more of an understanding of the info we are putting out there through the SEO settings while we are learning on WA, and whether we need to be careful about this generally whilst we are learning... Obviously any concept needs to go through certain stages and when it is time for the IP stuff, anyone who is serious about their idea, whatever it is or involves is going to proceed with this (hopefully). I did start my question with 'question for anyone who knows about IP', being new here all of 3 days I am still navigating my way around umm everything...didn't think it would hurt to ask the question...as is encouraged on WA...something I liked about the site from the beginning. My idea is a new and unique idea that will offer a new service in a specific industry...but I do need to narrow it down. You have answered my question and helped me, so thanks, I appreciate it, good reminder about content and copyright etc too :)

Need some help with my "niche" My thoughts are to do something with learning French but that seems too general. Any ideas on how to make it more specific. Maybe try and teach some French and then post pictures and posts about traveling to France or a French speaking Country. And Yes, you build blogs around your niche. Best of Luck.
Reply
IoannisPap Premium
Hello, i believe that teach french from a blog is something that many people would love (i already loved it since i am interested of learning more languages). Your blogs name (it's just a general "idea" about your content that you will create) doesn't play significant role about your blog (keywords and that kind of stuff). Your content does. go premium in my opinion is the best thing to do. Jaaxy is actually a really useful source because it will show you many things about keywords (it will also help you find the best keywords)

Now some things that just came on my mind is that when you build your blog and attract some people you can create many things and sell them.

1) Private lessons/hour --> 1on1 lessons
2) (Im not sure about that) But maybe creating E-book and help people learn some secrets about French and how this will help them learn French easier
3)Affiliate. Later on you can search for affiliate links. There are affiliates for everything.

Lastly i find it amazing to do something like this because (to be honest) internet rules everything. I would prefer paying someone to teach me French online instead of finding someone out there.

Hope i helped you :D if you need anything just reply :)

All the best,
John

Hi all, this is getting very interesting but now I am at the niche decision (and with an open mind).

I do have many interests from CCTV (my day job...currently), fishing (lures & fly mainly), kayaking, hiking and learning (and to help others by passing my new knowledge on). This is what I have been thinking about doing before discovering WA and what has been getting me thinking (current passion I guess) is crypto currency and understanding that WE are ALL freemen - by that I mean real people NOT titled as Mr, Mrs etc...which allow governments to "control" in many ways. We are sovereign and under common law (Magna Carta and Constitution) not "a title" under legal law.

So (sorry if it sounds like a rant but as I say I am trying to get my head around it all) my question is, as I have my current passion (there are no products associated with these) does anyone have a suggestion how such a site could 1st do some good by correct information and 2nd, earn some money? OR should I choose a "product" based niche?

Live well and prosper

That sounds pretty challenging to me. A well put together website that is full of helpful information should be able to attract traffic. Not having any products may be a problem. One possibility is using adsence and put advertising on your site for other products. It would be interesting to see what you come up with. Keep us informed.

Hi, Dean!

I share your passion for personal sovereignty. A website devoted to personal independence could promote WA as a means of creating financial independence.

Regarding cryptocurrencies, I recommend that you read Jeffrey Robinson’s book “Bitcon: The Naked Truth About Bitcoin.” I also wrote about Bitcoin in my article “Is Bitcoin a Scam?”

If you choose to build a website in the niche of CCTV or fishing, I’m sure we can find products you can promote.

Once you go through the Widgets training (not sure if you’ve seen that or not, you will learn how to remove stuff you don’t need. Like cart, Login/Register.
Categories is something some people like, and some people hate. If you categorize your posts, the Categories Widget is nice to have. But if all of your posts are in the “uncategorized” category ;-) then you probably don’t want that widget active. The search bar lets people search your site for specific info.
If you don’t know what I’m talking about, you haven’t gotten there in the training. Just keep going.
If you want to customize your site and pull unwanted stuff out, go into your Dashboard and look in Appearance, Widgets.

Thanks a lot. So, in general... What about the Cart, Do we need the Cart in the future for any niche?
Reply
Foobard Premium
Well, You’re not actually deleting it. You are making it not visible to your users. So there is no harm in removing it. You can always add it back later if you decide you want it. For best user experience, you don’t want anything on your site that doesn’t work.
Depending on what you will be doing in the future, you COULD have a “cart” if you decide you want to sell physical products rather than just be an affiliate or earn money from ads. Don’t worry about that now. Just follow the training. It is easy to get distracted by “shiny new objects”.
The cart must just be a feature of your theme. That isn’t part of wordpress. None of my sites has a “cart”.

The ones that don't clearly notify are running a huge risk. The FTC clearly states that any page with affiliate links must disclose it PRIOR TO the first affiliate link. The following picture is the top of one of my posts. I clearly disclose that there are affiliate links, and provide a link to the full disclosure page.
