Search engines like Google, Bing & Yahoo are after ONE thing. The most relevant content.

If you can build out your website in a way that is ready for SEO (as discussed in the last lesson) and create quality, relevant content, you are going to have a bright journey ahead of you within the online world.

The thing that most people stress about is being a "writer", you DO NOT have to be a writer to be successful online.

You simply need to communicate with your audience, the same way that you would with a friend or a family member. And if you put the emphasis on helping people, you are going to be able to build trust, which is going to lead to long term and sustainable success online.

SiteContent, a Writer's Dream Platform

As both a Starter/Premium member, you have access to the SiteContent platform here at Wealthy Affiliate. This platform offers you some incredible features as a writer that will lead to more efficiency, accuracy, and speed with your content creation.

You can access the SiteContent platform through the SiteRubix menu.

SiteContent offers you some unbelievable features that are going to make your life as a "blogger" much more efficient.

  • 100's of critical grammar and spelling checks
  • Duplicate content checker
  • Automated publishing directly to your website
  • Writing goals and accomplishments
  • SEO analysis and checks
  • Content structure analysis
  • Ability to template content
  • Vocabulary enhancement suggestions

This is where you are going to be creating all of your content moving forward. You will be setting writing goals and leveraging the "feature rich" platform for writing. If you are worried about your writing skills, the SiteContent interface is going to help you understand where you are making writing errors and help you correct them in a very efficient manner.

It is going to be your go to writing tool moving forward and it is exclusive to Wealthy Affiliate members only!

I have created a little walk-through of SiteContent, showing you around the platform and how to best benefit from it.

DISCUSS VIDEO: Creating Your Initial Framework of Content

Task 1: Creating Your "About Me" POST

To establish a brand online in any niche, you need to build trust with your audience. The best way to initially do this is through an "about me" style page. Every successful website will have some information about their brand, who they are and why they want to help people.

Your first task today is going to be to create your About Me page and you are going to be doing this directly within the SiteContent platform.

Within your Templates tab, you are going to see that you already have the framework for your About Me page already outlined.

Simply click on the About Me template and it will take you into the SiteContent editor. This is where you will be creating your content for your About Me page.

The first thing you are going to want to do is choose a title that is appropriate for your about me page. There are several options that I suggest you choose from in terms of your naming convention.

  • About Me
  • About NAME (ex. About Kyle)
  • About SITE (ex. About Real Deal Affiliate, About RDA)
  • About Us

The most natural and the option that I have always used because I feel it resonates and creates the most trust is "About Me" or "About Kyle", because it is the most direct. It feels like I am here for you and I am here to help (which is the case with every site I create).

Then you will want to populate the content. Do know that this is just a guideline, as you edit this post you can add new headings and of course you are in full control of the content and your story.

This is not a rigid exercise here, you are YOUR OWN brand and you can build out your content in any way you like, but this will give you a good guideline here.

After your are done doing this you will be click the Publish button in the right corner, just above your editor. This is going to allow you to publish directly to your website (see below).

Upon clicking Publish, you will get a pop-up that will allow you to choose how you want to publish the content. This is a 4 step process.

Step 1: You will want to choose your website that you want to Publish to, in this case it will be my "basketballskillsanddrills.siterubix.com" website.

Step 2: Choose "Post", not a "Page". The reason is all POSTS allow for comments on them and this is a page on my website where I am going to want to allow people to leave comments and feedback. Pretty much every article you publish moving forward will be done so as a "Post".

Step 3: Choose the user. If this is a new site, you will likely only have an Admin user. That is fine, choose that as your user.

Step 4: Choose the URL plug. Leave it "as is". You shouldn't need to change your URL plug, this is something that you can leave.

The Click Publish. Upon doing so, SiteContent is going to run a duplicate content check, and then publish the content to your website. Since you wrote your About Me page it will be 100% unique.

Task 2: Adding Your "Privacy Policy" PAGE

All major affiliate programs and all advertising platforms require that you have a "Privacy Policy" on your website. This is a formality more than anything and it is very much a standardized document.

You are going to want to load up the Privacy Policy Template from your templates.

Upon doing so, you will get a standardized Privacy Policy page. You are just going to need to make a few edits within the content to update this Privacy Policy and make it relevant to your website.

Change YOURDOMAIN.com => Your Website URL

In the case of my website, I changed it to basketballskillsanddrills.siterubix.com. There about 10-11 instances of this that you will need to update within the Privacy Policy.

Then you will want to change:

Change YOUREMAIL@YOUREMAIL.com => Your Email Address

This could be any email you want, you could even create a free gmail account for the purpose of this. Or if you don't feel comfortable leaving your email at the moment, this can be something that you provide to people at a later date.

Upon updating the YOURDOMAIN.com and YOUREMAIL@YOUREMAIL.com to your website details, you will want to Publish the Privacy Policy to your website.

Publish as a Page.

The reason you want to create this as a Page, not a Post is because Pages don't allow for comments. You don't want people commenting on your Privacy Policy, whereas you are going to want to allow for comments and engagement on the rest of your website (as it is good for rankings).

**Note: Your Privacy Policy is duplicate content because it is a stand document. SiteContent is going to warn you about this when you attempt to publish, and that is completely fine. Publish anyways, we are going to be blocking the search engines from seeing this.

After you publish your Privacy Policy, you are going to want to log into the back office of your website (Wordpress Admin area) through the SiteManager or through SiteContent. When you are within the editor for this page, scroll down to the bottom of the page and you will see the following settings.

Check off the Robots Meta NOINDEX and the Robots Meta NOFOLLOW. These will make sure this page (which is all duplicate content) does not get indexed in Google. The Privacy Policy is the ONLY page you want to do this for as it is duplicate content.

Task 3: Create a Menu

Your next task is going to be setting up your initial navigation on your website. The default Wordpress menus work in very strange ways and can be quite awkward, which is why we want you to create a Custom Menu and understand how to use them right from the outset of your business.

Navigation is going to be a critical element to your user experience moving forward and ultimately your rankings (as Google ranks sites with proper navigation better), so this is an important step here.

I have created a video walking you through the process of creating custom menus. You can check it out below.

DISCUSS VIDEO: Creating Custom Menus and Navigation

There are a few simple steps to creating a custom menu. The first thing you need to understand is where to find the Menu management section within your Wordpress admin area.

Under the Appearance, click the Menus sub heading.

This will take you to the custom menu creator. Under the left tabs, you are going to see a Pages section. Posts are not added to your navigation by default, so you are going to need to click the Posts tab and it will show a list of your Posts.

In this case, we have only create the About Me page. Click the check box associated with that, and then click the Add to Menu.

**Note: Most themes by default will add Pages to the top menu, but if you don't see your Privacy Policy within the Menu Structure section, you will need to add that.

Your About Me page has now been added to your menu structure.

Once added to your Menu Structure, you can reorganize your menu in any way you like, i this case I am going to add my About Kyle pager above the Privacy Policy, which is going to put it to the "left" of this within the live menu on my website.

Under Menu Settings, I am also going to make the Display location, Main Menu. Check this box as this will put this menu as your main navigation at the top of your page. Upon doing this, click the "Save Menu" button and you are set.

For example purposes, here is what my live website looks like with my newly updated menu.

We are all set here. You have accomplished A LOT in this lesson alone. You have not only set up your initial content framework on your website, you also have your initial navigation set out. Nice work!

I have a question about the use of keywords and would be grateful for some help please. In the previous lesson it was suggested that we find 5 keywords/phrases for our niche. Do we just choose one of these keywords/phrases for our article or do we use all 5 spread throughout the article? Or are the other 4 keywords/phrases to be used when writing further articles, one at a time?
Reply
SongbirdDL Premium
When you write your article, you will be using one of those keyword phrases. The rest are for use with your other articles. One keyword for each article. Enjoy writing your content.

now that i finished on this lesson, i was thinking my niche won't be as interesting as writing an article about it. So i thought of a different niche. will i still be able to do it, like just edit my niche -make it a bit more targeting i think. i got the 5 top keywords for it , i just need to edit my niche. is it possible though?

Hi,
Yes you can change your niche.

What that means depends on how far along you are in the lessons.

Can you be more specific?

For example, if you still have siterubix in your domain name then you can change it by buying your own domain name.

If you site is very new and you want to start over you can delete it by clicking the blue SiteRubix button on the left then click SiteManager. Then just make a new site from the beginning.

thanks for the reply..

i just really need to add another word on my niche, is that possible? i dont want to delete my niche. unless necessary, just need to twitch it a little bit .
my site is still very new, no blogs or content as i am on Course 1 just finished lesson 7. but, does deleting it even i built it through "On a domain i own" it wouldnt cost me, would it?
registering a domain is the one that costs monthly, or perhaps im wrong :)

Hi,
I am not suggesting to delete anything if that's not what you want.
I am still trying to figure out exactly what you mean though.

A "niche" is just a concept. Changing it is as easy as changing your mind.

What is it exactly that you are wanting to change? The website address?
Reply
I am also not sure about my niche and feel that I may end up changing it before I get my website set up.

it sounds like you want to change the name of your siterubix site, if you move to an own domain that will cost

you can stay with the free sites, the name is not important or if you really want a different name then create a second free site, someone told you to go up to a domain but that is not correct

Kyle suggests that you "Post" rather than "Page" your "About Me" page so that you can receive comments.

Personally, I don't really want to receive comments on my "About Me" page - I'd rather have comments on the articles that I will be posting.

Does anyone have any experience or thoughts on whether allowing comments on your "About Me" page is a positive or negative way to go? Thanks in advance.

Hey there, just started... looking to check the "understand membership options" box to go to the next training, but really it only explains the premium option (everything and everybody really pushing that for their commissions) I'm just trying to figure out what is possible with the starter version to start. It says you can have two websites- does that mean web hosting for two sites or do you have to find that separate also (assuming you have to purchase domain names - but that wasn't really explained either - Later training perhaps?) Just trying to take one thing at a time and get a sense for what my expected costs will be using this system vs. compiling something another way. I'm looking for more of a nuts and bolts rundown and I'm thinking I might benefit more from more research than I would from paying monthly at the beginning. Thoughts?

Thanks for the link. I'm having questions more related to individual features of the options that are offered, for instance it says as a beginner I will have access to 12 wordpress themes. Are these themes the kind that will convert to viewing on a mobile phone? (theres a name for that but I forget it) Or in the rush to "just get started" will I pick and be stuck with a website and theme that later I wish I hadn't? Are certain themes better for certain types of things such as selling services vs. selling products? Does the premium membership offer the full gamut of wordpress themes or are some of them restricted due to being incompatible with siterubix or some such? If there is a theme I like on wordpress, is there a way I can use it anyway? It was mentioned in one of the videos that "I'll probably want my own domain" Why is that? What are the advantages of that over the websites available here? And why then should I opt in to something less optimal from the start? (thinking later I wish I had chosen to have my own domain instead) for some things I seek more definitive stats, for others the info provided doesn't quite seem to add up.

You are a lot like me. But I think you are getting ahead of yourself. All your questions will be answered in the training but I will tell you that yes, the themes are mobile friendly and you can start with the siterubix domain and then purchase a domain at a later time. You can keep the siterubix domain but in my opinion, it looks better with just .com or .org. Yes, the premium does offer the full gamut of themes and they are all compatible with siterubix or the domain of your choosing. I'm positive you will find a theme you like because there are thousands available. You can change themes if you don't like them. I hope I answered some of your questions and I wish you the best of luck with your training!

Options are:
baking (too broad? Baking for beginners perhaps?)
healthy cooking (again too broad? Healthy vegetarian cooking?)
Kid's party planning
running technical gear (clothing, shoes, fitness trackers)

Does anyone have any thoughts? I enjoy all of the above, I just can't decide which path is the best.

Thanks!!!

Hi Corrine, I'm far from an expert, but I would have to agree that baking and healthy cooking are both too broad. I think you are getting closer with "Healthy vegetarian cooking" but that too might even be a bit broad. If I were trying to hone in on that niche, I would probably use something like "Quick and healthy vegetarian casserole recipes" or "Vegetarian breakfast recipes with zucchini"

Good luck!

Hi Corrine, have you put your niche keyword into either "Jaaxy Keyword" tool or "WA Keyword" tool? You can also narrow your keyword in "Google Search" using the "Alphabet Soup" technique.

Examples: bakinga; bakingb; bakingc or runninga, runningb, runningc. Google will show your search suggestions used by other and you can use those results and put into "Jaaxy" or the "WA" keyword tools.

Also start with the one you are most passionate about--this way you will have a lot of content for your blog and review pages.
Once you have determined your best keyword--you can then add the various related "Categories" on your site.

Hope this helps!

Since I learned a little more about pages/posts and how to manage them a little I did something on the website I own. I went in and put in a post that said "website under construction". I did this because if I type in the site it came up. I didn't want people to think that if they saw stage 1 and saw it come up again when finished that they would remember the name and not go back. It can be deleted logging onto admin right?

I also have sites covered with an 'under construction' plugin. You can easily visit the plugin and switch it off, and of course you can deactivate it, too. Just a note - I wasn't able to get Google to verify my site for analytics while it was 'under construction'. I had to temporarily switch it off to get through verification.

I've gotten help from site support to get me fixed with lesson 6 and caught up to lesson 7. I didn't find the list with Robots meta NOINDEX and Robots meta NOFOLLOW boxes to check. I wasn't sure it site support might have done that, but I couldn't find a list of those 3 items?.I went ahead with the video understanding what I was doing. I'm curious about rule #3, why must the key word make grammatical sense? I assume the reason a keyword is presented in a non-gramatical sequence is people performing searches perform that exact search and it would seem beneficial to match that, yet im sure there are solid reasons not to, so I'm way curios..

Hi Grinche,

As you know if it don't make grammatical sense Google won't be happy.

Imagine all the nets 'listings't being 'gobble-dee'gook' titles! I'd imagine to find something 'extremely' specific being very difficult.

Alas, I guess it is just 'best practices'.

I noticed too that ill grammared queries are putt into Google all the time and its a shame we can't steall them, those that do, I'd imagine don't rank well for that post or website name.

Otherwise, I don't know or recall.

Excellent training so far. Quick question some initial feedback on 2 niche ideas.
One dealing with herbal remedies and one on outdoor activity. In the past 5 years or so we have taken up day hikes in various parts of Canada. Loving it. My wife and I are closer to 60 than 29 and so 1 possibility for a niche might be "Hiking Over 50".
Additionally, for over a decade or so I have been fascinated by the power of plants for health/healing and have actively researched this topic. I am a huge advocate for preventative health rather than disease treatment and as such have been making tinctures, herbal pills, detoxes, etc that my wife and I---and numerous others are using with great results. (Haven't personally seen a doctor in over 15 years and want to keep it that way:) Do another niche idea might be "Healing with Herbs" , "Natural Home Health Remedies", "Making Herbal Tinctures" etc. I see potential to monetize these ideas as products in both categories are quite numerous.
Any feedback-thots on this. Again loving the site/tools/info so far.

think about how you might monetize either of those niches, what affiliate programs are available to you, what your competition looks like

I'm familiar with the herbs and natural healing, the way I see it is we are not shooting fish in the same barrel, it's about making the barrel much bigger and creating a wider pool, reaching out to your audience with your voice...there are many herbal programs out there, big issues with sourcing good quality herbs though, and always a need to make people feel comfortable to use herbs

a couple of affiliate programs to look at are The School of Natural Healing, [master herbalism, western herbalism tradition, good commission on their training], iherb.com [good commission on herbs and supplements], etc But Canada has its own vast supply of excellent herbs which perhaps you could find programs in those too?

posts go into the blogroll (home) and pages will go into a menu bar. Each page or post has the option of turning comments on or off in the editing mode (where you create it). Just have to scroll way down. I chose to put my About Me as a page, so it's in my menu bar. My Posts are in my blog roll on Home page, so that's where I put all my new articles. I set up my pages first, loaded them with content. Once I was done that, I started writing posts or articles in the blog roll (home). You can check out my website to see how I did it if you like. Hey Yoav,

You should be able to activate both of those plugins by simply clicking on Activate.

SiteSupport https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/websites/support should be able to help you with this issue.

those plug ins are free. Go to PLUG INS, then choose ADD NEW, that will take you to the Plug in page... on your right side is the search bar, type in what plug in you want. Once the Plug in that you want shows up, choose INSTALL NOW. It just just takes seconds to install usually and then your page of all the plug ins that you have installed will show up. Find your Plug in, click on ACTIVATE. It's that simple.

Once you choose a Domain and Website Name, can you edit it later or would you have to create a new website under the new domain name you want?

I don't want to make a hasty decision on a domain name now if I can't change it later when I think of a better one.
Reply
MozMary Premium
yes, don't rush, as you'd have to change the domain name if you didn't like it

you can use the two free sites though and transfer the content from them when you are ready

the tagline itself can be changed, but that isn't the domain name, that is simply settings>general

I'm thinking of doing a travel tips for solo travelers niche, but also tied with some sub niches, such as a portfolio/blog of my experiences abroad, hints tips etc.

As for affiliates, I'm hoping for TripAdvisor, SkyScanner, booking.com and possibly amazon for travel essentials.

What's people's thoughts? This is new for me!

You could do that I wpuld go through the training and then use the keyword tool or jaxxy. Look up keywords you could use throughout your content. That sounds like a really interesting nice. One thing I hsve lesrned is sometimes a niche can be broad example like travel that is broad so l. From what I can tell you have narrowed the niche some so I think it would work for you. Go through the training learn more. If you need more help always asks question I believe in every question is a good one even if it is a simple one. Hello all, is it recommended to create the content step by step (I create a page or a post and afterwards I publish it on my site) even if the site could look incomplete? Or is better first to create most of the templates and publish them in one run? I know my question is basic but it would be helpful to find an answer, as it will help me to organise my content. Many thanks!
Oana.

Me the first things I did when following the first some steps on gettinf my site set up is. To get your privacy policy and about me templates full those out. Then when those are done you start making posts about the niche you are in. Examples like reviews of a product or talk about a certain topic, thst you can talk about organically. Something you love talking about and, just keep posting and making quality content. I really do hope this helps you and I hppe you achieve your foals here in WA.

This was a question for me too. I don't want to post something unfinished and your system is a good way of making sure that all of the information is there. You can then just build on the depth of it. Thanks @MatthewLS

I do my best too help whoever I can.l you are welcome anytime. The biggest thing is follow the training and getting your about me page and your privacy policy up. Then you can put your content in as posts. You should be on your way. If you ever get stuck either go back through some of the training. Or just ask a question nothing is wrong with it I do it if I need. Hope the besr for you

yes, it is the page/post that will rank, not your site - so you build your content - also it could take time to rank when you are new so that gives you time to write more content and work on your site

better to publish consistently that all in one run when it is affiliate marketing...

launching your website ?

Both tools are good. The advantage I see with Jaaxy over the included WA keyword tool is that you will be able to see the SEO percentage and the likelihood of your post / page being on the first 2-3 or so pages in google.
I am very happy using Jaaxy just as the other one! Quite worth the money.

I am quite slow at learning sometimes, so this might be a no brainer question. At what point do I have to pay? I see the $19 premium advert at top, but they haven't asked/demanded money yet. Or are the two websites really free? Can this be real? Am I doing all this work for nothing?
Reply

You pay when you want but the $19 fee is only offered for a while and it's after the first week you should join. You can continue but you will not be able to get the help that's needed. Or access to other benefits like video classes for one. And welcome to WA:)
Best of luck!

What is the difference with getting the premium now and getting it later?

I believe if you upgrade to premium now your first month is discounted at $19 instead of the $49/month

you pay when you think you are ready to commit to the training

they won't demand money - they did not take your credit card details, they just gave you two free sites and some training so you can see if you would like to pursue it

yes those two sites are really free and they are fully functional wordpress sites, they are better than the free ones you'd get at wordpress .org because there are no ads with them, and you can get real traffic to those sites too, eg look on DomW's profile

the work is not wasted, if you think you'd like to go up a level to an own domain website and build a business at some point then they can convert over to own domain very easily, the platform is set up for that

One thing you will lose after your first week is 'write access' the ability to ask questions and write here is a Premium membership feature, but you can still access the platform

Can I ask someones opinion? I'd like to base my niche around gaming. Is that too broad? I've broken it down between software (the games themselves) and hardware (systems and consoles, gaming accessories, etc.) I believe I would benefit most from gaming accessories and just basing my niche around gaming hardware would be fine with me.
Reply
feigner Premium
I reckon you are looking a bit too broad covering all gaming.
You are looking from vr to consoles.
To start i would select the type of games you like to play along with the hardware required and write about that.
Expand on this when you have exhausted the subject.
Good luck with your online journey

I have two 6-month-long training programs with written materials. These programs take place via telephone (or Skype) and last for 6 months. I am a life and business coach. One program focusses on: developing awareness of what is holding one back in one's life.
The second program is focussed on relating and communicating effectively in the workplace. The content is geared to elevating awareness of how one sabotages oneself at work and what can be done to be more effective.
There are rich exercises to engage with in each program and two 50-minute personal coaching sessions with me each month. I am also reachable via email.

My niche is Coaching. Does this sound feasible in the context of Wealthy Affiliate?

I'm familiar with this niche. So really you have your own products, do you see it as a membership site?

Yes, WA can accommodate that, they will focus on getting your site to rank to get traffic, optimized for SEO, the SSL certs mean you can use woocommerce or do membership site options, use the search bar for woocommerce training, one member chrisscott is currently in the process of doing up a free training on membership sites

ultimately it is about getting the traffic and that is what WA are about

You can have so much fun in the Pet Niche - just answer the questions people have "How do I get my yappy dog to stop yapping when I am not at home?" (that is one of mine - you get my drift though????)

Let me know if I can help at any time ....my

you do have two free websites right now, it seems like a lot of new info and very overwhelming but it will get much easier

you have plenty of time to practice with your free sites, do all the Level 1 training, there are two courses, that is plenty of material for you to see if you like it and want to take it further

there are no extras to pay down the road - there is just two memberships, the free one [Starter], and the paid one [Premium] and take a look at the price of Premium, right now monthly it is $49 but that comes down to $29 per month if someone pays yearly membership in one go.

the membership includes hosting, the only extra you may need is around $14 for an own domain if you want

the platform has a free keyword tool, and there are free plugins to capture email - this platform likes to show people how to do stuff for free until their sites are paying for themselves and then they can invest if they choose

and yes, some people are in here for free because if you introduce someone else to the platform you get commission on that

Hi!
Great Question...write first about the Games you knew from Childhood...Clue, Monopoly, Twister whatever.....start with what you know....you don't need to buy any new games at all you can research the newest games and research about them...it's best to do an "Open Product" Review video or let kids open with Background music etc etc etc ....ideas are endless....when searching keywords Google"s Search Bar is second to none - just type in [game] and then see what comes up....then do "Alphabet Soup Method" ----follow the word[game] with the letter a then b then c etc etc etc
