Search engines like Google, Bing & Yahoo are after ONE thing. The most relevant content.

If you can build out your website in a way that is ready for SEO (as discussed in the last lesson) and create quality, relevant content, you are going to have a bright journey ahead of you within the online world.

The thing that most people stress about is being a "writer", you DO NOT have to be a writer to be successful online.

You simply need to communicate with your audience, the same way that you would with a friend or a family member. And if you put the emphasis on helping people, you are going to be able to build trust, which is going to lead to long term and sustainable success online.

SiteContent, a Writer's Dream Platform

As both a Starter/Premium member, you have access to the SiteContent platform here at Wealthy Affiliate. This platform offers you some incredible features as a writer that will lead to more efficiency, accuracy, and speed with your content creation.

You can access the SiteContent platform through the Websites menu.

SiteContent offers you some unbelievable features that are going to make your life as a "blogger" much more efficient.

  • 100's of critical grammar and spelling checks
  • Duplicate content checker
  • Automated publishing directly to your website
  • Writing goals and accomplishments
  • SEO analysis and checks
  • Content structure analysis
  • Ability to template content
  • Vocabulary enhancement suggestions

This is where you are going to be creating all of your content moving forward. You will be setting writing goals and leveraging the "feature rich" platform for writing. If you are worried about your writing skills, the SiteContent interface is going to help you understand where you are making writing errors and help you correct them in a very efficient manner.

It is going to be your go to writing tool moving forward and it is exclusive to Wealthy Affiliate members only!

I have created a little walk-through of SiteContent, showing you around the platform and how to best benefit from it.

DISCUSS VIDEO: Creating Your Initial Website Content (Framework)

Task 1: Creating Your "About Me" POST

To establish a brand online in any niche, you need to build trust with your audience. The best way to initially do this is through an "about me" style page. Every successful website will have some information about their brand, who they are and why they want to help people.

Your first task today is going to be to create your About Me page and you are going to be doing this directly within the SiteContent platform.

Within your Templates tab, you are going to see that you already have the framework for your About Me page already outlined.

Simply click on the About Me template and it will take you into the SiteContent editor. This is where you will be creating your content for your About Me page.

The first thing you are going to want to do is choose a title that is appropriate for your about me page. There are several options that I suggest you choose from in terms of your naming convention.

  • About Me
  • About NAME (ex. About Kyle)
  • About SITE (ex. About Real Deal Affiliate, About RDA)
  • About Us

The most natural and the option that I have always used because I feel it resonates and creates the most trust is "About Me" or "About Kyle", because it is the most direct. It feels like I am here for you and I am here to help (which is the case with every site I create).

Then you will want to populate the content. Do know that this is just a guideline, as you edit this post you can add new headings and of course you are in full control of the content and your story.

This is not a rigid exercise here, you are YOUR OWN brand and you can build out your content in any way you like, but this will give you a good guideline here.

After your are done doing this you will be click the Publish button in the right corner, just above your editor. This is going to allow you to publish directly to your website (see below).

Upon clicking Publish, you will get a pop-up that will allow you to choose how you want to publish the content. This is a 4 step process.

Step 1: You will want to choose your website that you want to Publish to, in this case it will be my "basketballskillsanddrills.siterubix.com" website.

Step 2: Choose "Post", not a "Page". The reason is all POSTS allow for comments on them and this is a page on my website where I am going to want to allow people to leave comments and feedback. Pretty much every article you publish moving forward will be done so as a "Post".

Step 3: Choose the user. If this is a new site, you will likely only have an Admin user. That is fine, choose that as your user.

Step 4: Choose the URL plug. Leave it "as is". You shouldn't need to change your URL plug, this is something that you can leave.

The Click Publish. Upon doing so, SiteContent is going to run a duplicate content check, and then publish the content to your website. Since you wrote your About Me page it will be 100% unique.

Task 2: Adding Your "Privacy Policy" PAGE

All major affiliate programs and all advertising platforms require that you have a "Privacy Policy" on your website. This is a formality more than anything and it is very much a standardized document.

You are going to want to load up the Privacy Policy Template from your templates.

Upon doing so, you will get a standardized Privacy Policy page. You are just going to need to make a few edits within the content to update this Privacy Policy and make it relevant to your website.

Change YOURDOMAIN.com => Your Website URL

In the case of my website, I changed it to basketballskillsanddrills.siterubix.com. There about 10-11 instances of this that you will need to update within the Privacy Policy.

Then you will want to change:

Change YOUREMAIL@YOUREMAIL.com => Your Email Address

This could be any email you want, you could even create a free gmail account for the purpose of this. Or if you don't feel comfortable leaving your email at the moment, this can be something that you provide to people at a later date.

Upon updating the YOURDOMAIN.com and YOUREMAIL@YOUREMAIL.com to your website details, you will want to Publish the Privacy Policy to your website.

Publish as a Page.

The reason you want to create this as a Page, not a Post is because Pages don't allow for comments. You don't want people commenting on your Privacy Policy, whereas you are going to want to allow for comments and engagement on the rest of your website (as it is good for rankings).

**Note: Your Privacy Policy is duplicate content because it is a stand document. SiteContent is going to warn you about this when you attempt to publish, and that is completely fine. Publish anyways, we are going to be blocking the search engines from seeing this.

After you publish your Privacy Policy, you are going to want to log into the back office of your website (Wordpress Admin area) through the SiteManager or through SiteContent. When you are within the editor for this page, scroll down to the bottom of the page and you will see the following settings.

Check off the Robots Meta NOINDEX and the Robots Meta NOFOLLOW. These will make sure this page (which is all duplicate content) does not get indexed in Google. The Privacy Policy is the ONLY page you want to do this for as it is duplicate content.

You are all set with your first few pages of content on your website. Kudos to you for your hard work thus far, in the next lesson we are going to be covering navigation on your website and how to create custom menus. ;)

I could use some advice. For my website/business name, I chose to create a word. Naturally, I want to write an article to explain what it means and what the business is all about. Should this be a separate post from my about me page? And... is it a bad idea to choose a made up word for my business name?
Reply
ShaneWB Premium
Depends on how hard it is to spell/say. If it’s not phonetic, people may struggle.
I’d include it in the ‘about’ section at least. You could also do a blog explaining it more if you like.
Reply
GuyW1 Premium
I am wondering why you had to create a 'word' for your business/website? I agree with ShaneWB regarding how hard it is to say or spell as that may be difficult to explain or reason.
Reply
JubiJoy Premium
I don't think spelling or pronunciation will be an issue. And I created the word because I was having a hard time finding a word that already exists that encompasses the idea. Every phrase I came up with either sounded dumb or could easily be interpreted to mean something in which I did not intend.

I've read that having any other website that has anything other than ".com" or whatever isn't a good thing. People don't trust free sites. If that's the case, do people actually make something happen with the free domain on WA? Or is buying a domain the best way to go? With this being my first website to build, Let's be honest, we're all on this thing to make money. I don't really want to waste my time with domains people don't trust.
Reply
Collura1997 Premium
Buying a domain is the best way to go. It’s a lot more professional looking and is pretty much a piece of virtual real estate. Success can still come from free websites as long as it provides useful information and high quality content. Consistency is key.

Lets say that you have created a website based on a niche of your choosing. Things aren't going as planned and you want to choose a new niche. Do you have to create a new website based on the new niche of your choosing, or can you change the website around to fit the new niche of your liking?
Reply
LeeMcQuay Premium
Hello Charles : )
Keep in mind that this is your first website and you may run into that circumstance.
The answer to that will really depend on where you are at with your website. How much content you have on it and if it is with a free domain or a purchased domain.

It will also depend on what your second niche will be. Will it match the url name?
If you are using a free domain you can always delete it and start a new one if you haven't added content.
If you have content on it that pertains to your new niche, then you can copy the content and add it to your new website.

If you purchase a domain you can not change the name of it. Use the free one until you are certain that you are happy with the niche you have chosen and have started writing content. Use it as a practice site.

I hope this was useful.

I believe that when you create your post, if you want it to go into the main navigation instead of as a post, select page when you create and publish it. You can easily do that through Site Content.

I really enjoy watching your videos. WA provides an easy to follow path toward success potential that I have not found in any other programs.

One of my questions was answered in the video, and that was whether to do one or both training programs.

My other question is that I already belong to several affiliate programs and I want to maximize potential from them. Should I focus on one business and niche now, and then build the other programs, or can I use what I'm learning to build the other programs?
Reply
Labman Premium
You can use multiple affiliates on your site if they are relevant to the topic of your site. You won't want to promote things that are not relevant to your content.

You can certainly use the training here to promote other products than WA.
Reply
nathaniell Premium
Both methods are possible. I usually try to focus on one affiliate program, or multiple affiliate programs in one affiliate network. For example, you can promote products form several programs within Shareasale, and get paid all at once from them.

But really, it's up to you, and how you want to publish your content.

Hi everyone, I have been discussing this in chat. Here the comments I made on chat.

Should we not use prepositions or adverbs in our keyword phrases? Like, "Buying flowers for the House", Or does it matter as long as we have good content to go with the keyword phrase?

Without some stop words like adverbs or prepositions, the phrase doesn't make grammatical sense. From the training, I thought the phrases need to make grammatical sense. For the example, I used " Buying flowers for the House" makes more grammatical sense than "Buying flowers house"

Yea, someone told me to not use adverbs or prepositions because it doesn't associate with any meaningful content. I felt confused because according to level 1: lesson 9: Rule 3: Rule #3: Keyword must make sense. This is critically important. If the keyword doesn't make grammatical sense, don't use it. Do another search on the keyword that makes sense as that will likely give you different data and that is the data you want to measure. I just want to make sure I am doing everything I can to make this work. thanks everyone, johnny

I just want to make sure I do this correctly.
I appreciate any and all advice or tips.

Hello Johnny.
Since keywords are the word or phrase that are typed in, to perform a search on what you are looking for, I don't think someone would type in "Buying flowers for the house ".
This can mean many things. You want to be specific.
What is it that you are helping your reader with?
Are you giving them tips on how to choose flowers for the house?
Grammatical sense and what Kyle teaches, is correct. Like you said "buying flowers for house" is not grammatically correct. I would suggest " Tips for buying flowers for the house"or " how to choose flowers for your home". You want to give the person doing the search, what they are looking for.
I hope this makes sense : )

I see what you mean, but the keyword phrases you have suggested still has stop words in it like, "How to or for the". I do see what you mean by adding "Tips for or how to" making it more specific, but it is still using stop words. Thanks for your help.

Hi Billy, I went to that link and it was very helpful. For me and that is just me, I think to make a keyword phrase make grammatical sense makes more sense than just throwing some words together. It sounds like either way works as far as getting ranked. I was worried that I was doing something wrong and it might affect my getting ranked by Google. Thanks for you help Billy.

I have a question if you wouldn't mind sparing this insight. I am caught up on picking a niche (big surprise). I can think of a million niches off the top of my head, coasters, dog leashes, oven mitts, and the list goes on and on. However these aren't things I am particularly interested in. My biggest love in this world is music, and this is where I fall short. I am not technically savvy to talk about musical hardware and such. I guess my biggest question is what is the actual application of the "niche". If I am to review products, wouldn't that mean I would have to own said products? Let's say I found my niche, how am I to use this in my website. If I understood more about this I imagine picking a niche would be much less daunting.

what you are looking for is a group of people with a problem, ideally passionate people.
so anything you know about that others are passionate about and have problems with - if people say ' i wish i had_____' then this could be your niche.
what you are after is to help people decide on how to solve their problem. be it how to choose a dog leash, waist leash, standard leash - which type of collar- chocker or fixed, harness or collar.
so you can see there are a few info types of articles there and the reviews - well , do you have manmade leash, leather, how do you look after it etc.
but the main topic is how can i keep my dog safe and control it. who are you looking at? male 20-40, likes to go out walking with dog, enjoys talking to others when out - goes to the dog park
get to konw your audience very well then you can talk to them.
write it all down and read through it before writing your article- talk to him before you start writing -warm yoursell up.
good luck

Hi RexKwondo,

Good work getting started. Having a interest and passion for your Niche is important. You will be spending a LOT of time creating content. (Incidentally, I have been a professional musiian for most of my adult life. Good choice!) To address your thoughts.

A niche like Music is much deeper than "dog leashes" however it is also very broad so consider narrowing to a more narrow category or genre within music i.e. Classical guitar, or folk music, or brass band instruments... the list is endless, but will make ranking and targeting your audience Much easier.

Not tech savvy: That's ok. Other people are and they have written a lot of content. Do your research and Re-write articles with your words personality and understanding you have gained.

Application of the Niche: One of the goals of this process is to become a valuable resource on the internet for people searching for keywords specific to your Niche. The application is in providing accurate and quality engaging content for your readers. Depending on the products you promote. A lot of research can be done at a large music store. If you live in or can get to a large music store, many of them have small practice rooms where you can try out different instruments and hardware. this is a great waty to learn about physical products and even record videos of them while at the store.

Your website is your Niche and your niche is your website. A very focused topic or set of topics that will provide value to the People who have interests you are targeting. The Narrower your niche/target is, the more precisely you can tailor your content to appeal to that group of people.

I hope this helps!

Feel free to ask more questions. And Never give up!

Cheers!

I have finished phase one of training. I understand how money is made and the domains and all that but one thing is still confusing me. My niche represents hundreds if not thousands of products. Do I need to list many of these on my own website or can I just direct customers to the companies I affiliate with where they can see all the products there without a huge website of my own? Do I need a website with many pages and posts? Or can I, just through writing content, be the avenue for which people find the different companies?
Reply
CravenATAT Premium
You can be the avenue- but if the niche is extremely broad, then it will be harder to get a targeted audience. For instance, 'health care' is broad, but veterans with mental disabilities is a bit more broad. If you want to narrow it down a bit more you can, although if you go broad you can target specific affiliates - you don't have to target them all.
Reply
Jeff909 Premium
My niche is actually specifically directed at a single audience with a lot of products. Everyone will be there for exactly the same reason so that's not the issue - the product line is extensive, but the audience will only be musicians.

You can target whichever products you decide on, you don't have to promote them all. The benefit of it being your site and your niche is you get to choose what you want to promote.

Hello Will and welcome to Wealthy Affiliate.
Have you clicked on "publish" in SiteContent yet?

Once you click publish there there will be a box that appears. If you click, "edit in WordPress" that is where you will find noindex and nofollow. just scroll all the way sown and you will see it.

if you exited that box without going to WordPress, just look to your left and click on websites.

Click on SiteManager and click login. Once you get into the dashboard, click on pages.
This will bring up your privacy policy. Once you have your policy pulled up, just scroll down to the bottom and they will be there.

Once you have checked noindex nofollow, be sure to click update/save and the refresh your browser.

Thank you Kyle for this one in particular, it really for me brought clarity as how to build on your new canvas. WA is amazing, but you must be diligent and stick with the process!

I have another question when it comes to purchasing a domain. I want to do a free domain for right now and then eventually purchase it. My question is will it all be one price no matter the name? What I mean is, for example, I searched travelplanetearth .com to see if there was a website with that name already and on the website page it said I could purchase that domain name for $4,995. That name is available on the free siterubix domain, but when it comes down to eventually wanting my own .com I don't want to be SOL out of that name because of a price. I really hope this makes sense! Thank you!

Hi Kristina --

... if you purchase your domains with WA -- they range from 13.99 to 15.99 USD depending upon availability -- (dot--coms, net, org) ...
this should help you to plan/budget for the purchase ...

hi,,can anyone tell me how to make a website that is meant for collaboration between individuals of different discipline under one goal? for e.g translational medicine is about bridging the gap between basic scientific discoveries and clinical application,,,for this we need to bring experts of multiplediscipline on one plateform to work on developing effective drugs and devices...can such collaborative plateform be made on website? how it would ;look like..any idea

Are there any journals that concentrate on this subject? Do you follow experts on each of the subject matter? Perhaps you can reach out to them, let them know that you are interested in writing about their work and you have some questions to ask, hopefully they'll say "Yes" and you can have some questions already written up and email them so they can be answered. That is really all I can think of, i don't know if that helps

Interview one expert from the multidiscipline and the other from the drugs and devices and then it would seem to me that the people that would be the best to answer theses questions would be the patients who have benefited from a combination of both and they can explain their journey from traditional, to natural, to anything else and finally getting relief from a combination of your two interests.

I'm having so much trouble deciding on a niche. I'm thinking travel, but is that too broad of a subject? Does it need to be more specific? I'm going to start training to be an Independent Contractor as a travel agent so that's why I was thinking a travel niche. I'm interested in a ton of other stuff, too like beauty products, animal conservation, photography, things like that. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Kristina
If you are going to become a contract Travel Agent then yes I would have travel agent as your niche however if you feel you enjoy other subjects as well choose your no.1 pick and run with this and make sure a lot of people will like it and that down the track you can make money through affiliate programs you join
Hope this helps

Your niche could be travel, absolutely! It is a broad topic, but who cares! You can do what you want. Just make sure it's something you're passionate about and can see yourself writing about daily. Or, be more specific. Like, where was the most amazing place you've ever visited? Let's say it was Italy. You could choose Italy travel as a niche. Or Mediterranean travel. Something more specific like that. Your only limit is your imagination.

When we do a keyword search for our niche, and we find five good matches of keywords. Do we write posts for each keyword we use on our website?
Also, if I use a keyword (QSR-under 100, traffic over 40) like "basketball shoes", but when I write my post, I make the title "basketball shoes: the cost" has this basically changed my keyword when searched for by people? If the keyword phrase "basketball shoes: the cost" is ranked number one, do people have to type it just that way is titled to see the post.

I'm about 2 days old in the community, still working through training and I'm about to build my site. Lot's of questions going through my head but, the immediate one is, what is a realistic expectation for a site to start showing some income. I don't mean to sound like a cheapskate, but I'm a dreamer and a doer and unfortunately, some of my ventures have cost me money and I have not had positive financial results. I'm a bit limited right now and I need to plan. Suggestions and your experience is much appreciated!

why don't you recommend to follow both courses? The online entrepreneur and the Affiliate bootcamp. I would like to take them both and then decide what I do, but I was surprised to hear on the first video that they do not recommend to follow both programs. Can someone tell me why?

Hello Alejandra.
The certification course is set up to teach you how to set up your own website/online business in order to promote products that pertain to your niche. Whether it is arts and crafts, cooking, electronics etc.
Bootcamp is set up to teach you how to promote Wealthy Affiliate.
You can take them bot as a premium member. It is recommended
that you start with certification so that your not getting the two mixed up.
There are task that you will perform. Some will coincide with both courses, but not all of them will.

I hope this helps.

So I'm thinking of picking something to do with music production. Like plug ins or midi controllers etc. Thing about this is obviously music equipment is costly even in today's world. $300 is still $300 regardless if it was quadruple that 2 decades ago. I'm confused on being able to do this without having used a product. How do I write about something I've never used? Maybe I havent gotten that far in the training yet though.

I have to confes that I am confused about finding the right niche.
Could the niche be an online store front? I have a website that someone else created for me by using "Go Daddy". It is not perfect by any means. I have no google ranking what-so-ever and therefore it does not bring me any clients. The website is a wedding/event flower business that I was hoping to get going.
Is it possible to build a website for a local wedding/event business?
Reply

Anything is possible. You may want to narrow the focus to just weddings or a specific thing for weddings.

I suggest reading this excellent post by Kyle about succeeding with a small niche and scaling (growing it larger) it! Best wishes,

Perfect - I was thinking along those lies myself adding to my anti ageing, oils, fitness etc. There is so much you can do with a site like that - hair, accessories. Wonderful and I would simply transfer your your hosting from Go Daddy to here and start working on that website. If there is anything I can do to help please feel free to ask. I also had a florist shop at one stage and did a lot of weddings. I would go to ali baba, ali express, ebay, amazon and etsy and see what is trending in the wedding industry and also check out the hot sellers in that niche and you will soon have so many ideas flowing through your head and it will give you a good idea where you want to start and do not be afraid of expensive items - the dearer the item the more commission and people are paying zillions to get their wedding just the way they want it

Hey Leila, welcome to WA.
thinking about a niche is like thinking about what i would like to help people with. you can then find products to solve problems within that niche.
in a way you are lucky - you already have a site with a niche.
with that niche you can stay local to where you are or go global and try helping people around the world.
one problem i see going global is the different meanings of flowers and cultural differences.
staying local or at least within country will expand on what you do locally and you could target a large number of local towns - jay has special training on local seo.
so you have a head start over a lot of people, or you could choose a different niche to learn the business system here and then go back and redo your wedding event flower business.
write down exactly what you want to do and achive - this way you have something to aim at.
good luck

As I understand it, Leila, Google has search engine optimizations that are aimed at improving your search engine results specifically for your local market. I have never pursued it because I am not doing a brick and mortar business as I have done in the past, but I do believe that Google has a protocol for finding customers local to you.

One of the results for the search string 'using google to find customers in your local area' gave a link entitled 'Improve your local ranking on Google.'

Not for sure either will apply specifically to your situation but the part about 'build a website for a local wedding/event business' makes me think it might help.

Best Regards,

Follow the training at least through 5. You do that you should be able to set up without issue. If you jump around people here that could help you cannot as they get lost too. Just suffer through what you already know as it will help you in the end.
I would not tell you this unless I know this to work. If you follow the program they have things like SEO and other important issues taken care of. You will get traffic from your ranking in the SEO right off and it will start your making money. Work through section 5 of the Training anyway to see what I mean, work the programs in order.

This may be a silly questions but once your website is up and running if someone buys something how do you get the % you earn? Do you have to connect your bank account or do they send a check? How often do you get paid?
Thanks for any help. I am familiar with the whole how behind affiliates but I am interested in learning the nitty gritty.
Reply
feigner Premium
all of these details will vary affiliate program to affiliate program.
read the terms and conditions.
here for instance the affiliate program pays monthly and pays a hefty percentage of the monthly premium.
you also need to look at the lifetime of the cookie which brought the visitor to the sales site.
here, again , is very good and is a lifetime cookie, the last person they clicked through before coming here is the one who gets the commission.
you can find the info for here under the dollar symbol at the top and clicking on the program details.
amazon, for example pay up to 10% and pay two months behind. you can have cheque, voucher or pay to an account.
so as you can see it does vary a lot - check the terms and conditions.
good luck

You sign up for each affiliate program, and part of the process is linking a bank account or PayPal email. Each person that buys through your affiliate link is tracked as your referral, and you will therefore get paid a commission.

Every affiliate program is different in terms of payment method, how often you get paid, etc. You'll just have to read the terms for each one before applying. As for Wealthy Affiliate, since you are a member, you are already signed up with the WA affiliate program and your affiliate link can be found on your profile.

Hello Guy and welcome to Wealthy Affiliate.
I think the niche you are choosing is awesome.

You do want to narrow it down a bit though.
What is it about the war that you are most fascinated with?

You can use Jaaxy and Google to help you narrow it down and Jaaxy will also show you how much competition it has.

You can definitely use WA. If you were to go premium, you will get 25 free (sub) domains and 25 purchased domains that you can have hosted here with security, to build websites on, at no extra cost.

I would do the certification course first and then go through bootcamp.

You want to get your site up and ready to promote products. Your site need to be established before promoting products.

I hope this helps my friend : )

You can look to see what they are building their site on, see if there is something that you think they might be missing.

You can get a lot of ideas by researching others sites and reading their comments.

The comments their readers are asking can give you some insight as to what they want to know about the war etc.

You have chosen a great niche and I know you will help others with what you share on your website.

Hi. In my mind it makes sense to know how to operate a gun, and know everything about that particular gun that you carry. I see a not too broad niche, as the laws are such to keep it narrow. There are enough kinds of legal guns and accessories to use with those guns and subject matter to support a niche. My thoughts are to learn all of your state laws and branch out if you choose. Weapons have been around since creation and our creator has something to say about them as guidances.

Hey guys, I know it might be to early for me to be asking this, but with an affiliate marketing business and utilizing Wealthy affiliate, ideally when and where and how should I go about with affiliate links? I know I am only on step 9 of the first process, but it just occurred to me. I tend to overthink allot and I apologize, but I had one other question. So Kyle's website is named "Basketball Skills and Drills" mine is named "MoneyPlays" because that's the name of my business and I am trying to grow a brand. In my mind this is what I need to do to build an affiliate business, but should I be naming it like "Make Money Online" or something. I am just a bit confused this morning, maybe someone can clear my thoughts up for me, thanks!
Reply
cramervod Premium
Don't worry too much about links until you understand how to gain traffic. Before you learn how to get the traffic you must understand that content is king. Without a solid form of communication between you and your audience, the links will be useless.

A name is simply a list of words in whatever order you choose. That isn't a priority but guess what is. The actual content that you build because it is how you Help other people get their needs met.

People will only care about how you can help them and ignore most of the rest of the stuff that you overthink.

Remember to make use of problem-solving because that is what will get people to listen to what you have to say.

That means you can use any name that you want but the more it makes sense, the easier it is to remember, and the connection people make from it to your products, the better things will go.

In your OEC (Entrepreneur Certification) you build your brand and not WA. You make money from affiliate websites not necessarily WA. But primarily as a WA affiliate you promote WA using the skills in the Bootcamp Course.

Well, it depends on how you look at it. Yes, I got the phrase MoneyPlays through an episode of Psych where there at a casino, but it has nothing to do with poker. I believe that gambling is something we do every day whether it's through casino doing or not. Every day you take a risk (a gamble) in everything you do if that makes sense. What I am trying to get across is taking risks, and taking action in life to change your life. Whether that's going to college or starting your own online business. I hope you understand what I am getting across. Feel free to check out my channel

I think it is more helpful to be unique and stand out a little for branding purposes. I feel the "Making Money online" can be very saturated if you do a google search on it. Utilize the Jaaxy tool for website domain names, blog article keywords, and even branding opportunities. It even has a brainstorming function that can help come up with crazy alternative names and ideas. I would suggest you try it out and then do some google research to see who is ranking highly for those keywords. Google keyword planner is another free one that you could use.

So does that mean you would risk it all on red or are you simply going to play the percentages and take the smartest risks?

Look at ways to convince people and be certain to understand human nature. Both things will help you to change perspectives so that you can see other people's real interests.

Remember that you are marketing for others to see not for you to see it. Which means convincing yourself that an idea is good is easy. Convincing the girl next door that you are an alpha male, that takes deliberate actions which have to be calculated.

First impressions matter but so does the behavior that you display even with your body language. In order to paint the right picture, you have to see it from another perspective.

Anyways I think maybe you are putting all your eggs in one basket when you don't have to make things too difficult.

Follow the training here, pick an easy niche like weight loss and get some experience trying things out. When you are ready for a bigger audience it will happen.

But it won't likely be in the first few tries since everything great takes way more attempts then one.

I know and understand it takes time, work and dedication. I have built this business in the perspective of risk, but also being smart about it. Life itself is its own risk. What I am trying to build and come across is taking action in life, taking opportunities, wanting change and doing that work that is required for that change. My business has nothing to do with casinos what so ever. It is simply in the Wealth niche, Earning a passive income online, building your own online business, working from home. I am simply following in Nathan Lucas's footsteps. I have only just begone here at WA, and I know there is so much for me to learn from here. Thanks for your feedback!

The niche I was really thinking about using is kind of a taboo subject. I really want to educate people on SIDs also known as crib death. I personally lost a daughter and a brother. Since I have lost my daughter I have been researching different items that could have possibly helped. There are different times of monitors. I am really afraid of stepping on someones toes so to speak. Please help.

Hi Kayla,
Welcome to Wealthy Affiliate!
You will be helping others by sharing your experience and also be preventing this by providing possible solutions.

If you're concerned about the competition (by stepping on someone's toes) don't worry about that.

Competition is a good thing - nothing to fear.

Go for it!

Reply

Because sids or infant loss period is such a taboo subject. People don't like to talk about it that often. And I don't want people to think that all I am trying to do is make money to me this website would be so much more.
Reply

It is no different to someone who has had issues with their weight, found a solution to their problem, shares it and in so doing they earn an income.

As you mentioned it is a taboo subject, but the word needs to get out as so many people are experiencing this every day.
Why not be the first and become an authority figure?

If you do this, you will be surprised how many people will follow suit.

No different than the closet gay/bisexual, homosexual lifestyle ... seen as taboo once, now people are so much more open about it.

Nothing is taboo if you are going through it and want to share your experience.

All the best!

Hi Kayla - I'm in sort of the same situation. In 2009 I was permanently injured by surgical hernia mesh during an operation that was supposed to be routine. Since then I've been involved in the support end of mesh-related injuries, and have been networking with people on a global level, but like you, I'm having trouble figuring out how to take my experience and involvement to make a living. These are dicey subjects. All the best to you and I'm sorry for your losses. I lost a cousin to SIDS many years ago. Let me know how it goes, maybe other people here have also tackled a medical related niche.

What makes this so hard for me to talk about is. I was a nurse not only did I have the medical background and was trained on how to save people I also lost a brother to it. Even with the fact that I thought I had educated myself enough on the subject I still found myself asking so many questions after the fact. I luckily have an awesome pediatrician for my children that took the time to do her best at answering them for me.

My niche is pure, hand made, organic soap. Do you think this is a good niche?
Domain name: pure soap (available)
Web site name: pure soap
My plan is to advertise pure soap on my web page for Amazon.
I will have links to Amazon and earn a procentage when customers buy. Is this how it works?

I think it's a good niche. I have been advised by much more seasoned WA members that selling is probably not the best way to go as a newbie. Are you a newbie, sorry didn't see your profile. I wanted to do the same so what i did was just put in on the back burner and started something else. From what i understand if you don't sell anthing on amazon in 6 months they kick you out. Just to be on the safe side i would recommend reaching out to an experienced member or if you joined via a mentor reach out to them. Sorry i didn't provide a clear cut answer. Please keep me posted.

Well you could try organic soap as well and Amazon is not the only place to earn a percentage. They do not pay very good commissions but if I were you I would go to ali Baba, or ali Express, EBay or even Amazon and see what is trending and also what the hot sellers are. If you look at the soaps section as well you could get some good ideas and if you are looking for images I would go to google images because they have a great array of photos - just make sure that you use the images "Labelled for re-Use" because if you use some of the ones that are copywrited you could get sued - if you need any further help please private email me and I will help - I have a couple of natural therapies sites of my own

Hi Ieila. Ingrid is correct. I wouldn't start selling with amazon until you have your site up and running and have enough content written to make it interesting for them. Once you join you will have six months to make three sales or they will reject you. It may sound easy, but believe me it isn't. Persistence, doing the training and writing excellent content is the key. I'm not sure how far you've come with your training but I'd concentrate on that first. Just remember that a site really doesn't start producing until it has about 40 good blogs written. Jim

So , Jim question, does Leila start to write about organic soap? You know, the benefits, ingredients, etc and then transition into selling soap? Or does she pick another niche, gain skills writting blogs and then she can start her soap niche? I'm a little confused about this myself. Thanks in advance!!

I should have said above that soap actually is a bit narrow. I'd stick to one niche and call it something like 'Natural products" or "Natural skin products" This would give her far more material to write about and a lot more product to sell. By just selling soap you would be limiting yourself. Jim

I noticed a couple of things that run contrary to my assumptions about a niche site in the example site; Footbal Snack Helmets.

There seemed to be less original content than I thought was necessary. For instance, other than a brief bio in the About section, the content was basically product descriptions and a basic ratings chart. In fact the featured video was sourced and not produced by the site author ( I think).

Is the limited original content on this niche site typical?

Like Vicki has stated, it is not typical.

Writing content constantly is a must in order to gain trust and get more readers.

If you were to only create a couple of post and nothing else, your website will remain sitting still in the rankings.

Your content and consistency is what will get your website noticed, along with traffic etc

I hope this helps.

Going to Premium was a little scary because money is tight, but I think something clicked to alleviate some confusion today. Even having a working, or practical knowledge of a product niche, I became overwhelmed at the thought of how extensive that could be working with multiple companies. But am I correct in assuming that we are, as affiliates, a kind of mini search engine within a bigger one. We specifically narrow it down for the customer in a more general way by providing the link to the vendors they need, rather than posting a thousand different products on our own WA website and spending all my time doing research. With the proper description and text of my website, could it then be just a site filled with affiliate links with no examples of products? I mean, people who contact Coca-Cola don't need a picture of a Coke to know what they are looking for, I'm guessing it works the same way for a person looking for CBD Oil, or guitar strings, for example. Still confusing and new, but maybe I'm getting there!

Hello Nicolas and welcome to Wealthy Affiliate.
The one thing I would suggest is that you narrow it down.

What about making money online as your niche?
Passive income online?

That would be my suggestion.

You could be more specific if you want or just keep it broad. I would suggest using the Jaaxy keyword research tool located on the "Research" tab on the lower left menu. You can use it to find ideas for a new website or a new blog topic. The name of your website doesn't necessarily need to have keywords for rankings. You just want to find a name that is unique and one that can be brandable. One of the ambassadors here at WA has a blog about whether work from home opportunities are scams or not. Another one strictly focuses on affiliate resources. You could do one aspect of it and then start to build on that. I'm still narrowing it down myself, but there is so much value and content that you can provide it seems limitless.

I have invested a lot of time, effort, energy, patience, and determination into an affiliate program already, and I hope to utilize what I learn here at WA to be both successful and profitable in my business. I have already started branding a little, I have to create blog posts on Wix and WordPress on my own before coming into WA, I have also created a youtube channel telling people who I am and what is my story! The name of my business is MoneyPlays, and its all about helping people everyday earn a passive income online, in any way I can bring to the table and of course bring valuable content! So if that makes sense on what I have chosen as a Niche, that's it lol! Passive income online, Financial Freedom, earning an income from home!

Nice! It looks like you already have your direction. If you use a news theme for your website, you can create different categories and blog articles for each category to separate the content. If you don't already have a logo or don't have the graphic skills, you can always outsource it to fiverr. I paid for my new logo just to save time. The pros they have there can get it done in 2-3 days.

I'm not sure I understand the question. There are some niches that are tough like art and photography. Some have it tough with travel blogs because the market is over saturated with travel comparison sites. A niche is simply an area of interest or something that you are passionate about. The key is to find out if other people are also passionate about it and seeking to find solutions for their problems. If no one is telling them how to solve a problem they might have, then you could become an authority for that area of interest. The top niches, or areas that people need solutions for, are dating/relationships, making money or finance, and health and fitness. People will always need help in these areas. Some people write about their problems as a mother and how to take care of their infants. There is most likely something that you are good at or are curious about. Explore that and google to see if anyone else is writing about that.

I would like some help narrowing down my niche as I think it's still too broad. I hesitate to disclose my direction as it generally proves to be a dog-eat-dog world and I'm afraid any idea I have will be stolen if it's potentially a good one. Who can I trust?

Hello Jonah.
To be honest, the chances are that there are others who already have the same niche as you.

The difference will be that you will put your own spin on it. THe chances of picking a niche someone else doesn't have is slim.

The thing is, you may choose better keywords, write better content etc.

You will definitely want to narrow it down though if it is broad. I would like to think that you can trust us all, but I can't really speak for others.

Thank you for your reply, Lee Ann. You've made some excellent points. I'll "risk it" and see if I can't get some help.

I want to get in the coffee business because I enjoy coffee. I need more than just an average cup o'Joe in the morning. For me, it's an experience that I relish and not merely an energy booster.

I put my heart and soul into each cup that I brew, and I love simplicity. I found one of the best ways to brew coffee is also one of the least expensive!

While I don't grind it myself with a fancy burr grinder (I use pre-ground), I am very selective where I get my coffee from as well as what I put it in.

For me, it makes a lot of sense to start with a coffee-related niche, but coffee is a topic which I'm sure is much to broad. I would welcome help in narrowing this down to something more specific.

The next question you might to ask yourself is, will you be able to write quality content constantly?

What I mean is, what else is it about coffee that you are passionate about?

If you only have one method of brewing this good cup of Joe, what else will you write about?

You have to write a lot of content, especially in the first few months.

You can do reviews for coffee, coffee pots, filters plus the brand.
You can also use Jaaxy and Google for ideas.

Check websites that are in that niche and see what they are doing.

Id there something they are missing that you could improve?
Check their comments to see what questions their readers are asking.

You can also try this
I want to help people ________
and fill in the blank.

This might help narrow it down as well.

Hello fellow Affiliates! I have been researching how to make money (realistically) online. I wasted so much money over the past 2 weeks paying an "intro" price & then finding out how confusing & technical it was to get set up. I just came across a misleading link that asks for $1 for 7 day trial then $29.99 a month. I watched the hour + webinar. It sounded spectacular! Everything was set up for you - the funnels, driving traffic AND if I stayed to the end I would receive a website that had established income of 60k just have to plug in my payment link. However, the fee was $1997. Right NOW. So I Googled the company & was redirected here. My question is-is beginning at the bottom floor & building my own business better in the long run than buying one that's already established? Honestly, how long to make my 1st $100?

Hi Gayle
We have all been stung at one time or another and it sucks however you have hit the jackpot this time

Wealthy Affiliate is awesome and there are no hideous up-sells
Businesses cost money to build however if you choose to you can stay as a free member and build your business

Should you choose premium membership, you a lot more benefits.

Every business you own will cost money to build and its no different online except it is a lot cheaper which is awesome.
As for time to earn.

Some people earn quite quickly while others take more time.
It is impossible to tell you when you will make money for 2 reasons.

1. You need to choose a niche ( this is taught in the Wa training)
2. You will need to be focused, work, hard and be determined to achieve all the goals you set for yourself and you must also have a WHY- Your WHY, you want this is your driving force and this will help you create success online down the track.

I hope this helps and I wish you all the very best here on your new journey

Hi Nichole,
Welcome to Wealthy Affiliate!

I think think this is a great niche as you will be offering valuable information to parents.
You also have a lot of experience which will help to build trust.

Maybe you should target a particular age range as when people search they usually enter an age for what they are looking for i.e soft toys for kids aged 5-6. or you can say for teens which will target a wider area but still narrow enough to work.

Wishing you success!

Sounds like a great idea. There are tons of successful mommy blogs out there. My one suggestion would be to focus on a target audience. What type of parent are you? There are many disagreements on how to raise kids out there, so your personality and your family lifestyle will be the focus of your brand.

Great lesson! Does anyone know a very easy and simple way (hopefully no coding required?) to change the color of my menu bar on my website? My theme that I chose automatically has it set to brown but is currently clashing with the other colors. *smile* Not sure if changing colors is discussed in a later lesson. Thanks so much in advance. :)
Reply
JackieSmith Premium
Hi LT,
You *might* be able to change it within the customize menu option (Wordpress backend) of your theme. There might be a colours section or header section. You can check there.

However, having had experience with trying to change my themes' header colour, it may require some code changes - which I wouldn't recommend unless you know what you're doing - as it could create problems.

If you're unable to find a setting within the customize menu option, you can search for support groups online for your particular theme. Maybe someone else has tried to do this and asked the question and a solution has been provided.

All the best!

TimMcKinlay Premium
Hi LT,

Unless there is a specific custom option within the 'customize' tab within your site (left hand side menu) then you will need to modify the CSS code.

Honestly I don't recommend doing that, because it is a whole different ball game to what you want to be focussing on. I personally would just choose a theme you like 'out of the box' at this point as it as messing with code can consume hours, days as a beginner and you could mess up your site if you are not careful too. Up to you but that is my advice.

If you do want to begin learning how to do CSS though, then this tutorial is a good starting point: Hope this helps!

Thanks so much Jackie. There are options available, but not that I see for the menu bar. I suspect it will require CSS code. No worries though, just was checking to see if there was an easier way. I will revisit this at a later time and just keep moving forward with my training for now. Thanks again. :)

Thanks Tim for the info. Just wanted to check to see if there was an easier way. For now, will put this on the back burner and revisit later and continue with my training. Thanks again.

I have a question about the making grammatical sense aspect of it. More of a request I guess. Could someone break that down a little bit more? I don’t really understand why that’s so crucial, and all I got from the video was that I shouldn’t do it. When I use Google, I’ve always clicked on the often grammatically incorrect suggestions that come up in the dropdown menu, and probably because of that a lot of times I search for grammatically incorrect things when not using the suggestions. Is the issue that not many people are like that?

Hey Mike,

Welcome to Wealthy Affiliate!

The lessons are meant to guide you.

Kyle only wants us all to be successful, so he shares with us all of the different aspects of what makes a successful website.

Should you prefer to not make grammatical sense on your website that is entirely your right as it will be your website that you will be creating.

However, I'm sure you will understand better as you move through the lessons.

Hope you find this helpful.

Hi Mike, I just watched that same video last night, and had the exact same thoughts as yourself, but I see what Kyle is saying - if you think about the idea that we are creating posts and pages based on (and using) those very Keywords we are doing our research on. My perspective is that ideally, we don't want to be using the grammatically incorrect terms in our posts. I hope what I am saying makes sense? In the end I figured that I would somehow incorporate both, but I am yet to figure that part out.

Wishing you every success with your new adventure in WA.
I'm loving the community and the training.
Cheers for now
Simone

Just remember, incorrect grammar might actually change the meaning of what you want to say!

I think that the reason that the lesson tells you that your content should make grammatical sense is so that people will understand what you are saying. For instance I had to re-do some content for someone I am mentoring because the way he was portraying content sounded odd. He was also not putting the correct amount of spaces after a full stop etc. He had difficulty with English so I found that trying to read his content was hard work.
If someone comes to your website they have to be able to understand what you are trying to say and being grammatically correct will mean they stay longer and there you have built trust because you have portrayed that you know what you are talking about. That is my take on it anyway for what it is worth.

Not sure I was clear on this. Obviously you want to be grammatically clear in posts/articles/etc. But in the keywords attached to the posts - my understanding is that those aren't part of the posts themselves. Maybe I'm wrong about that.

I'm getting inside my own head on this. I've literally thought about this all day and talk myself away from every idea. The things I like to write about are more informational in value, and not geared toward products. For example, my daughter is newly expecting twins. There is little information available regarding what to expect during a twin pregnancy. Seems everything is geared toward singletons. Additionally, my 'specialty' knowledge is in regards to a genetic blood disorder that is considered rare. Not much info there, but again.. it's informational, and unless I can figure a way to become affiliated with the pharmacy and sell the specialty medicine, I don't see that working out, either. My husband is a huge truck buff and likes to restore. I'm sure there's a huge market there, but it's not something I want to spend any time learning enough about to write convincing copy. Like I said.. I'm in my head here. :/

Actually, that is a pretty good niche. You can talk about what to expect from having ywo s and promise product grated specifically toward multiples. Strollers, is the product I think of. Just the idea of needing two of everything...You could promote, supportive items for the pregnant mom and branch into baby products x2. Just a thought...

I'm sorry my words didn't come out right.

Aw, your words came out fine. I understand what you mean. You know, I can easily see a book idea here! Unfortunately, I don't have the time right now to write one! (But I'm definitely filing the idea away for a time when I'm more successful and not worrying about a time clock to earn a wage, so thanks for that!)

You know a really great tool to help find keywords is something called : https://answerthepublic.com/

Its pretty self explanitory. You put in a phrase and it will come up with the entire alphabet soup of keywords which you can then put in Jaaxy to see what the stats are.

Sorry so many questions tonight but....
When naming a website through WA, does the name have to mention what the site is in reference to? Just as an example, there's a blog for happiness and prosperity and it's called Dumb Little Man. I would never know what that blog was about without clicking on it.
Reply
adreyna Premium
It doesn't have to mention it, but it's best to do so or it can be confusing, just like the example you gave.

Hi Stephanie,

Like Audrey wrote, it is best to do so. Although it doesn't need to be explicit about your topic / niche, it should definitely be related and appropriate. It appears that length is not as important, and some domain names are quite long, so something descriptive is a good idea.

Hello Stephanie,
I agree with adreyna. I think your website name should reflect what will be inside of it.
In the example you have given, I would have been confused as well.
When you click on a website you are expecting to be taken to a site with certain information that pertains to the name.

I hope this helps : )

I know a lot of bloggers just use their name. In fact, one blogger I follow teaches about starting a blog and highly recommends only using your name. I'm not sure why. But a lot do use their names. So I wasn't sure how I should go about the domain naming.

I see a lot of bloggers apparently using their names but I think I would feel more comfortable with a nickname. I guess it is also about building up your brand.

I do have a question, can our website translate from English to a second language of our choice? Or do we have to write everything we wrote in the second language for our viewers? I’m bilingual so this is important to me as I’d like to target both English and Spanish speakers. Thanks!

Why not just have a translation function on your site
Reply
MikaelM Premium
There are different tools that can translate content for you out there, but automatic translations will never be very good, so ideally you have to do the translations yourself.

I would however suggest you to start with one language and make that successful. If you start with two languages there will be twice at much work, success will take longer to achieve, and you will make the same learning mistakes in both languages.

Once you have learned the process and succeeded you can always expand to another language.

Thank you for your response. That makes perfect sense! I didn’t think of that for some reason so again, thank you!

I believe that there are WordPress Plugins that will translate from one language to another. I don't use one. However I would be concerned that the translation may not be totally accurate and may lead to stuff not being correctly translated.

Excellent question!

... after having spent some time as a fully bilingual editor in communications of two-language text, i must second Mikael's comments in support of his recommendations --

... while there are auto-translations available and WordPress does support a number of different languages ....

... please be advised that all translations need editing to ensure that the significance & meaning are accurate, including grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc... all of which are painstaking, time-consuming, detailed tasks to complete...

... and there's plenty to learn and to do here on WA to get to success in one language ...

... thanks kindly for your question, all the best for every success, cheerio.. :)

Hello every one! I was able to change the theme of my website but it's not looking sexy at all, so I was wondering if that's the way it's supposed to be, cause the one I saw from sir kylle's sample video was looking much better, am wondering if it's probably because I haven't added any Images to it or something. 0ne more thing, I'm seeing something like "sample page" on the front page of my website and I don't remember placing it there, how do I remove it please? or is it supposed to be like that? help please.

Hello David and welcome to Wealthy Affiliate.
What theme are you using?
Kyle may have a premium theme one that he purchased.

As for the sample page, if you log in to your back office in WordPress, click on pages and then hover over the sample page it will show edit, quick edit and delete. Click delete and that will get rid of the sample page.

Back to your theme, it could be that you don't have it all set up yet, like your menus and widgets.

I hope this helps : )

Quick update since I can only blog once every 24 hours. I just joined premium on September 30th leaving one day to end my adsense account revenue with a sweet chump change. I was having problems with keywords for a while but since I learned to use Jaaxy, my September ended on a good note and I'm not even using a niche.

Jaaxy is great for any types of blog.

Now I'm going to spend all night fixing up all 17 of my sites lol

So my first idea for a niche is a compact iron that is really a clothes steamer. My husband and I saw them in a mall last Christmas time he bought me one. I have lovved it. You just hand the article of clothing on a hanger steam quickly and ready to go.

My Ex and I used to travel all over the USA for different Conferences and Dinner Events. It took us forever to find a neat little steam iron that the handle folded over and it became really small. It came in handy for years. I just realized that I have not seen one since. Sounds like a GREAT! niche to pursue. Your Audience is unlimited. Especially these days when weight and size make such a huge difference when flying.
BEST of luck!

Hello all and great day. I think I found my niche. I was away from it but still actively doing research as I started BootCamp (BC). I read the first BC lesson but did not complete it. But since I found my niche I think I will continue with the OEC.

Niche: online math tools
