Search engines like Google, Bing & Yahoo are after ONE thing. The most relevant content.

If you can build out your website in a way that is ready for SEO (as discussed in the last lesson) and create quality, relevant content, you are going to have a bright journey ahead of you within the online world.

The thing that most people stress about is being a "writer", you DO NOT have to be a writer to be successful online.

You simply need to communicate with your audience, the same way that you would with a friend or a family member. And if you put the emphasis on helping people, you are going to be able to build trust, which is going to lead to long term and sustainable success online.

SiteContent, a Writer's Dream Platform

As both a Starter/Premium member, you have access to the SiteContent platform here at Wealthy Affiliate. This platform offers you some incredible features as a writer that will lead to more efficiency, accuracy, and speed with your content creation.

You can access the SiteContent platform through the SiteRubix menu.

SiteContent offers you some unbelievable features that are going to make your life as a "blogger" much more efficient.

  • 100's of critical grammar and spelling checks
  • Duplicate content checker
  • Automated publishing directly to your website
  • Writing goals and accomplishments
  • SEO analysis and checks
  • Content structure analysis
  • Ability to template content
  • Vocabulary enhancement suggestions

This is where you are going to be creating all of your content moving forward. You will be setting writing goals and leveraging the "feature rich" platform for writing. If you are worried about your writing skills, the SiteContent interface is going to help you understand where you are making writing errors and help you correct them in a very efficient manner.

It is going to be your go to writing tool moving forward and it is exclusive to Wealthy Affiliate members only!

I have created a little walk-through of SiteContent, showing you around the platform and how to best benefit from it.

DISCUSS VIDEO: Creating Your Initial Framework of Content

Task 1: Creating Your "About Me" POST

To establish a brand online in any niche, you need to build trust with your audience. The best way to initially do this is through an "about me" style page. Every successful website will have some information about their brand, who they are and why they want to help people.

Your first task today is going to be to create your About Me page and you are going to be doing this directly within the SiteContent platform.

Within your Templates tab, you are going to see that you already have the framework for your About Me page already outlined.

Simply click on the About Me template and it will take you into the SiteContent editor. This is where you will be creating your content for your About Me page.

The first thing you are going to want to do is choose a title that is appropriate for your about me page. There are several options that I suggest you choose from in terms of your naming convention.

  • About Me
  • About NAME (ex. About Kyle)
  • About SITE (ex. About Real Deal Affiliate, About RDA)
  • About Us

The most natural and the option that I have always used because I feel it resonates and creates the most trust is "About Me" or "About Kyle", because it is the most direct. It feels like I am here for you and I am here to help (which is the case with every site I create).

Then you will want to populate the content. Do know that this is just a guideline, as you edit this post you can add new headings and of course you are in full control of the content and your story.

This is not a rigid exercise here, you are YOUR OWN brand and you can build out your content in any way you like, but this will give you a good guideline here.

After your are done doing this you will be click the Publish button in the right corner, just above your editor. This is going to allow you to publish directly to your website (see below).

Upon clicking Publish, you will get a pop-up that will allow you to choose how you want to publish the content. This is a 4 step process.

Step 1: You will want to choose your website that you want to Publish to, in this case it will be my "basketballskillsanddrills.siterubix.com" website.

Step 2: Choose "Post", not a "Page". The reason is all POSTS allow for comments on them and this is a page on my website where I am going to want to allow people to leave comments and feedback. Pretty much every article you publish moving forward will be done so as a "Post".

Step 3: Choose the user. If this is a new site, you will likely only have an Admin user. That is fine, choose that as your user.

Step 4: Choose the URL plug. Leave it "as is". You shouldn't need to change your URL plug, this is something that you can leave.

The Click Publish. Upon doing so, SiteContent is going to run a duplicate content check, and then publish the content to your website. Since you wrote your About Me page it will be 100% unique.

Task 2: Adding Your "Privacy Policy" PAGE

All major affiliate programs and all advertising platforms require that you have a "Privacy Policy" on your website. This is a formality more than anything and it is very much a standardized document.

You are going to want to load up the Privacy Policy Template from your templates.

Upon doing so, you will get a standardized Privacy Policy page. You are just going to need to make a few edits within the content to update this Privacy Policy and make it relevant to your website.

Change YOURDOMAIN.com => Your Website URL

In the case of my website, I changed it to basketballskillsanddrills.siterubix.com. There about 10-11 instances of this that you will need to update within the Privacy Policy.

Then you will want to change:

Change YOUREMAIL@YOUREMAIL.com => Your Email Address

This could be any email you want, you could even create a free gmail account for the purpose of this. Or if you don't feel comfortable leaving your email at the moment, this can be something that you provide to people at a later date.

Upon updating the YOURDOMAIN.com and YOUREMAIL@YOUREMAIL.com to your website details, you will want to Publish the Privacy Policy to your website.

Publish as a Page.

The reason you want to create this as a Page, not a Post is because Pages don't allow for comments. You don't want people commenting on your Privacy Policy, whereas you are going to want to allow for comments and engagement on the rest of your website (as it is good for rankings).

**Note: Your Privacy Policy is duplicate content because it is a stand document. SiteContent is going to warn you about this when you attempt to publish, and that is completely fine. Publish anyways, we are going to be blocking the search engines from seeing this.

After you publish your Privacy Policy, you are going to want to log into the back office of your website (Wordpress Admin area) through the SiteManager or through SiteContent. When you are within the editor for this page, scroll down to the bottom of the page and you will see the following settings.

Check off the Robots Meta NOINDEX and the Robots Meta NOFOLLOW. These will make sure this page (which is all duplicate content) does not get indexed in Google. The Privacy Policy is the ONLY page you want to do this for as it is duplicate content.

You are all set with your first few pages of content on your website. Kudos to you for your hard work thus far, in the next lesson we are going to be covering navigation on your website and how to create custom menus. ;)

I can't post my privacy policy as a page. Only as a post. Any ideas!? Should I reinstall google app? I cleared the cache and it still doesn't let me post it as a page. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Serious waste of time trying to do it 4 times already. I should not be complaining since I'm using for free. But any help would be useful. Thank you.

In this lesson 8 level 1 course of Getting Started, Kyle mentions in the video that on the widgets page, over on the far side of the screen (beside the dashboard menu) is a 'custom menu' button from which you choose 'sidebar' and then add a widget. The problem is that i noticed on my widget page in my back office there is no such 'custom menu' button available. My website theme is the same one that Kyle uses in the training videos - the Hiero theme. If anyone knows why this 'custom menu' button is missing from my widget page or if/how I can add it back onto my widget page please let me know. Thank you :)

I have completed all the steps under Lesson 1 and seem not to be able to proceed to Lesson 2 without upgrading to Premium first. I have not yet even earned my first single dollar but am required to pay first. glad you're here. I can certainly understand your frustration, it's natural. Do you feel like you got any value out of the first lesson? Was it quality enough that you feel like you might get just as much from the rest of the lessons? I believe that the premium is only $29/month for now and you can cancel at anytime.

@jrashaad it is frustrating especially now that I am still at proof of concept stage, thought I need to see some results first. Is this really working for you?

Just like to know why when you choose a wordpress theme; when making changes to that theme with your own content, images, etc. your unable to get it to look like the the theme you picked. Seems they never have all the settings available to duplicate the original look desired. And they say its so easy to work with wordpress and I disagree; if you don't have all the settings necessary to customize the site how can you achieve the look...isn't that part of why you choose a theme to follow?

There's more flexibility with paid themes versus free themes.

Sometime a WP theme would have a free version and a paid version. Make sure that the features/look in the theme you want is in the free version, and not the paid version.

A really big advantage with WordPress Themes is that you can change the look of your site quickly without "destroying" your content.

You are never locked into one WordPress Theme. I have lost count of the number of WordPress Themes I have used over time but am glad that when I change Theme that I do not have to rebuild the site from scratch.

Ok so aren't the WA themes you can pick from free? There's over 2800 for the premium...aren't they free as well?
Reply

With premium membership of WA, you have access to all the WP Themes in the WordPress library. These are I believe the ones listed at https://wordpress.org/themes/

There are quite a few here. I do not know the exact number, because the number is changing all the time.

Third party companies charge for their version of WP themes, which of course, must have something that the free versions do not. Just to be clear, these 'paid' versions of WP Themes are not part of the 'free' WordPress library.

My understanding is that you buy these from these companies and follow their instructions to use them in WA (if you are a premium member of WA).

Follow all the training here that you can on the free started WA package.

You would need to develop your website with enough good quality content with suitable keywords to get your 'free' traffic. And have your affiliate links on your website, that enough people visiting your website purchase using your affiliate link.

I would not recommend on spending money on paid advertising unless you know what you are doing, as it is easy to spend money on advertising without getting a decent return.

I have a question on SEO. Let say I have created a post and inside the dashboard post along the row, the SEO title and SEO keywords has the word "no title and no keyword", do we have to do something on this?
Same goes for the about me section.

Thanks

Yes, you do have to fill that in. Under the article in wordpress where you type and edit the article it has a place to put seo title and seo description. Kyle explains it here:

This is pretty awesome. I 've never seen anything like this that doesn't continually charge you for every step forward. I wish I had found WA in 2005. Anyway, question: What is the advantage of using .siterubix? I own several domain names that I've had for years. If I use, for instance, myniche.siterubix.com what advantage does that give me instead of just building the site using the domain that I own, i.e., myniche.com, and what is the cost of registering a new domain name? I haven't seen that. Thanks in advance for your help, Crew.

siterubix domains are not as strong as a www.com address. If you already own domains they can be transferred here, as you have 25 domains that you can host here. The cost of a domain in normally under fifteen dollars and all of the extras are covered in the cost

hello Peter here at WA,
yes, and never see thing such as WA. It is at the top..me too I wished!!I was preparing for master that time..BUT I start working and stop wishing..
siterubix is sub-domain of WA and not your own domain..so in case you work with sub-domain, it is great but If you exceed 2 domain you need to be always premium here to keep all sub-domains that you create (free of charge when you are premuim member), BUT if you got your own domain you will pay for name and hosting and if you would like to leave WA and donot be premium anymore, then you can move your domains(your hard work) and host them some where else..

I hope this help..
Any way, I LIKE WA and do not think to leave, up tp minute training and every help I need to be online marketer..

All the best.

It's generally better if you use a domain name instead of the free siterubix setup. But if you want you could build out your website on the free platform and then register your domain later on.

i am trying to figure out what my niche should be and i have 2 passions at this point. I am an avid pc/console gamer so i could go that route but i also have a small hobby farm and would love to promote supplies and services. are these things too narrow or broad?
Reply
Now find a micro niche in those subjects. PC go with a select brand or model - micro niche- then find an affiliate program. Find a brand in the supplies section of your hobby farm. Ask them to do affiliate marketing for them.

I would 100% follow the hobby farm stuff. However gaming would be better practice, I think, while you narrow down what you want to do with the hobby farm. (I mean, we get two websites for free, so why not?)

I agree with Calomi...pick the one with more passion. You will be providing content and helping people, which do you have more of a knowledge base of? Might be easier to start with that one. Also, you can always change your niche later. Good luck!

I think the hobby farm idea is a really good one. A lot of people are in the gaming niche, but hobby farms sounds really interesting and well targeted to a select group of people into hobby farming.

G'day All

I just want to share my very first impressions of WA

1, It was so easy to sign up - i didn't have to jump through 50 hoops to get here. I just signed up and pow - I was here on this first lesson.

2. This first page and I guess the rest of it seems so easy to find your way around and navigate to wherever you want to go in WA.

3. The two videos - the first one explaining how to navigate around the site and what is on offer in WA is very comprehensive. The second one on setting up my profile was very helpful.

To sum it up so far - WA is such an easy experience that a cave man that has just crawled out of the jungle that has never seen a computer could do this.

Thanks guys - I look forward to a great experience here at WA

Hi, I may have my niche idea but would appreciate some feedback. I let out my home in the English Cotswolds for holidays (family and walking holidays). Currently I use TripAdvisor to get customers. If I had my own website I could link to local events, shops etc, blog about the area, promote books etc.
Am I on the right lines please?

ScottLindsa1 Premium
Hi Lynda:

This may be a great niche for you especially since you know so much about the subject.

Is your main goal to get customers for your home? If so, this may be great. You could then promote books etc.. to make some extra money. However this does not make it a great niche.

If you intend the site to be a niche site all about the English Cotswolds and are looking to make money from visitors clicking ads, buying books etc.. you need to do some research to make sure that it's a profitable niche and there are good ways to monetize it.

Plus, you need to make sure that you will get enough traffic to the site to make it profitable. I would do some keyword research to see how many searches are being done for things related to that topic and go from there.

I hope this helps and is not too confusing!

Regards,
Scott

Craig and @LyndaR

What did you find for traffic (searches)? I found very little traffic for the term

"english cotswolds"

More for "the cotswolds" but very competitive.

However that is US based searches.

If I look at searches being done the England, UK, then there are definitely more searches for:

"english cotswolds"

and huge amounts for:

"cotswolds"

with stiff competition.

Maybe look at terms like:

"where to stay in the cotswolds"

but definitely many more searches being done in England, UK vs the US.

The Jaaxy tool only searches the US correct? If so, it may not be a good indicator for England UK traffic.

Interesting. I found a misspelling in the Walk Through Video where it says "We are a Thrving, Active COMMUNITY", but I can't attach a screen shot unless I purchase the Premium package. You can use the exact words - as long as they make sense/form a proper phrase.
e.g Keyword 'lose belly fat'

You can write 'There are many ways to lose belly fat' ... there goes your keyword which you will rank for.

It is different for some themes Halie. Custom HTML is where you want to copy and paste any links for banners and things like that. You can add a Title if you like but I don't do that for banners as the image that will appear after you save it is good enough. Does this help a bit?
Also, some have an area for a Menu so if that is what you are doing, a secondary Menu so look for that and then put your info there for menus.

No you don't have to use templates. I use the Privacy Policy template because it's already written for me and just have to put in my own email addresses to the template. The About me should be a brief introduction to your website to your readers. You can use 'Blank page', instead of 'template'. I always do because I like to put all my finishing touches later in my WordPress Dashboard. Welcome back!

I think you followed the directions in Kyle's lesson where he says to make your About Me as a Post. I don't know, maybe his Theme at the time required it. I and most people on the Internet, put the About Me as a Page, so you can put it into your Main Menu, and then it will show in your Menu navigation bar along with all your other pages. Posts are in the Blog Roll, new posts are always pushing older ones down down down. I suggest you copy your About me post, into a Page instead. Then Trash your About me Post. I have directions to someone else on my Profile page, regarding how to delete and trash Posts and Pages.

You can make money within practically any niche, so I recommend following Kyle's advice to go with something you are interested in. Specifically, something you are going to be interested in writing about and helping the people with. This is going to form the foundation of a profitable website. From that broad idea you can use the training to 'niche down' if need be, and to ensure your niche is going to be a profitable one. Also feel free to swing some ideas past me via PM if you want to. It really doesn't matter which one when you are a beginner Susan. Which one are you most passionate about? Which one do you have the most knowledge of or have used yourself? Usually, this is the best way to go. You have a good list of niches and a break down on some already. Smart.

I am interested as well, Can you tell me how was it when you started and do you see progress now?

This is so true it has to be something that you have a high interest and passion for or it is pointless

It can take anywhere from 3 - 6 months to a year. It all depends on the individual and the niche chosen. If you have a high interest in the products you are promoting then your chances are much better.
I started over a year now but also got very sick and had to take time away. I am actually looking at a new niche finally and into drop shipping as well for 2018.
Don't worry too much about the money if you can. Concentrate on learning the most you can in the training and do not jump ahead.

You do not need to sign up for affiliate companies yet, that is going to be covered as he moved forward through the training (level 3 covers the make money part, affiliate programs in detail).

The first focus is going to be creating your foundation for your business, and working to get your content index, rank, and getting traffic to your website. At that point you can start considering promoting products and services on your website (through affiliate programs or otherwise).

Ok..I think so far this is pretty awesome. Understanding Keywords, The Start of Your Content, is the first lesson Ive gotten stumped on. I understand how to search for keywords and what to look for, but how does that help me and how do I apply the ones that meet criteria? Is this for a later lesson?

So far I am enjoying learning about the tools Wealthy Affiliate has to offer. I just purchased a domain name, but now it is asking me to sign up for premium membership. I'm not ready to commit to a monthly recurring cost until I can get a better understanding of how this is going to work. Do I need premium membership in order to build a site with my own domain name?

Hi Lilsusk, i would recommend you go through course one and pick up the basics. It will give you a head start. you can start of with the free website and upgrade later on, at least then you'll be certain if it's what you can do.

Hi Everyone,

When I started thinking about working online it was to help moms find themselves again by creating balance in their lives. My idea was to discuss journaling, meditation, fitness, eating habits, and ways to entertain and communicate with kids on the days they are driving you crazy. Is this too broad for a niche?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and input.
xo
Reply
Zappades Premium
It is not too broad for a website but the niche is not defined in a word yet. A niche would be like "moms find yourself" or "mother's little helpers" or something like that

Thanks you! That is very helpful. Much appreciated

Am I correct in understanding that I don't actually need to know anything about a product, it helps if do, if I like it and if I would purchase it, but I can generate income from any product?

If this is so, would I make a website specific to each product or is it better to have a theme and one website?

Thank you in advance for your help :)

This is covered in the training. You will choose a website name that you can promote a kind of product. Then reviews of the products in the type will fill out the site.

I am sorry. I just your concern. After you choose a niche or product, you have to do research research on the product that you are trying to promote. In order to do a review. The best way is become an expert on the subject.

On your privacy policy page on your site scroll down to the bottom of the page into THE ALL IN ONE SEO PACK and tick these 2 boxes...they are just under the keywords (comma seperated) box.

(2 boxes)
1.NOFOLLOW this page/post
2.NOINDEX this page/post
and then update your page and your right to go!
Reply
How do you update the page

That was my last problem. I could check the boxes, but couldn't update. I ended up losing the about me section.

You update the page near the top right hand side of the page ( go back up on page)... it’s a square blue button that says update right at top of page just under publish section. Hope this helps!

This may be a bit off topic, but I thought I would share this. I guess you could say this is a new goal I have in mind.

Since I am visually impaired, and since I don't have a lot of money right now, I use public transportation on a regular basis. Yesterday happened to be one of those times. I was traveling with my guitar, since a friend and I were going to jam out together. We write songs together and things like that.

I don't usually have any issues carrying my guitar with me on the bus system. However, this time around, a homeless guy got on the bus, and proceeded to try to take the guitar from me, claiming that it was his. I fought him off, along with some other folks, and the police came and got him off the bus.

I'm saying all this because I now have a new goal in mind because of this incident. I am going to try to start making money as fast as possible with my website. In this way I will be able to start using Lyft and Uber a lot more, since the majority of Uber and Lyft drivers are extremely nice people. Then I won't have to worry about getting on those buses with crazy people anymore! ☺️

I'm on a mission now, my friends! There is dinero to be made!

This is Steven Driscoll and after looking at most of the initial video trainings, I am wondering when do those training video begin teaching about Affiliate marketing. I already have a website and done quite a bit of reasch on that (although I could alway learn more).

But where does the affiliate marketing training begin?

I thank you and look forward to your response.

Steven W. Driscoll

P.S. WA members reviews are great - but lack any discussion what were the actual benefits of WA.

Hi folks!
I am thinking of starting a site where I consolidate men's self-improvement resources, give recommendations on them, and link to them. I am thinking of branding it "Manlier". My question, though, is whether I should make it all one consolidated website or have several on the different topics such as fitness, social skills, and money. If I did the latter, I could base them on the same brand and make it, say, ManlierFitness or ManlierMoney. What do you think would be a better idea?
Reply

That is an intriguing thought. I actually like that idea. Separating the sites you could use various affiliate programs to monetize them. Really cool thought process.

I would keep it simple for now and grow it as needed.

I am just starting and working on choosing my niche. I love helping people make personal progress toward developing personal peace and seeking new adventures in life. I think that I would like to offer articles, books and connections for focusing on life enrichment around the theme of peace and adventure.

Sounds like a great niche. Focus you niche on one aspect of this subject. For instance, find inner peace through mediatation or finding adventure in your own backyard. Then build out your site gradually. Selling your own products is harder than affiliate marketing because you have to develop the productions but you get to keep all the profits.

Thanks for your input. I am thinking the same thing about having to narrow my focus to be more doable. I am going to browse to see what is out there on my topics of interest to decide if I might be able to do mostly affiliate marketing to guide customers to products in these areas. I think that I would rather work as an affiliate than market my own products.

You don't have to pay for the whole year. You can pay $19 dollars for the first month and $49 dollars each month after the first one. Take one lesson at a time. You click on the green "Get Started Here", on the left up of any page and follow the directions, one lesson at a time. If you didn't understand the lesson, go back and do it again, as many times as you need to get the lesson. Please, ask for help and you will get it. Try to be patient, one step at the time! thank you! I wish all the success to you.

When I started I was free member for nearly a year. You get two free websites as a free member. Develop those websites as a free member. The disadvantage is you cannot continue training beyond the first lesson. When I finished the first lesson I had my free website up and I knew the fundamentals of promoting it.

I think member blogs and member provided training is available to free members. Also, there are lots of people here that will help you so don't hesitate to ask questions.

I would develop my website using my mother tongue. Unfortunately I only know English. When you are ready to do an English site get someone to edit your writing.

Question:

when looking at a niche, a review site for example, where we would review various products, kitchen, home products, etc..

Is it best to stay specific such as only do kitchen product reviews and use a domain with kitchen in it?

OR

Is it ok to go wider and use a more generic domain name and review a wider variety of products?

Which works best for SEO or does it even matter?
Reply
edensbox Premium
I would think about how small you want to go really. It depends on you. Is there enough products that you can continue to do your reviews? If you feel that there isn't then go a little larger so that you have more options.

Make sure you do your research on your keywords for each group to see how many options you might really have. It will take a little time doing your research but in the end it will really pay off.

The other part of your question about using kitchen in your domain name, you don't have to use your keyword as your domain name. You could choose anything you think would be relevant or make sense. Remember you are building your brand and you start with your domain name.

Ultimately the choice is yours.
Reply
ScottLindsa1 Premium
I thought it was important to try and use some keywords in your domain name.

I know there is debate on that, but it seems that in most niches the sites that rank still seem to have something related to the niche in their domain name. Maybe this is not true across the board but in niches I have looked at it seems this way.

How much cost a domain name with WA,is that a yearly expense?
Why is it recommended to get one?
For a start,as a premium member, can I use the 50 free sites offered in site rubix without having to buy a domain?
I am not sure I understand the whole concept!

1st it's 25 siterubix websites, which cost nothing as long as U are premium. A .Com or a .net site would cost less than $15.00. And have another 25 sites as long as you buy a .com or .net etc for each one.

Thanks for the reply.
If I read you correctly I could built 25 sites with WA with no cost other then being Premium and if I want to buy a domain it would cost less than 15$,is that cost with WA?
Reply

WA offers the "land" for free for every member here. If you want to buy your own "house" on this land, (a website without the extension http://xyz.siterubix.com, as you don't like how your site name looks) will cost you 14$/year, it will have the form -http://www.yourdomain.com and yes, you can buy it from here. You go in the left hand menu, site rubix -> site builder > register a domain (the right side option in green).
You can buy upto 25 domains with the .com (but it will be 14$/year each, so of course everyone recommends only one at the beginning, especially that you would need to have 25 different niches for 25 sites!) and you can still use the other 25 free websites on the subdomain site rubix. Personally, I have a free site-rubix and a domain website, with total different topics, and I can deal with them both, but if I would have 20 free sites and 10 domains....I think I would be in a lunatic house by now :)))

Hi Kristyelder,

I just checked the video and I see that it is not happening to me.

I have a laptop where I have to use a square slider to the cursor. Many times, my laptop does similar as you describe and I can only put it down to my hands cast a shadow too close to it and brushing off of it.

Try again without your hands near your one, if indeed, you do have a similar laptop to mine.

For me, the video is playing just fine.

My passion is the guitar, which I have been playing for awhile, so I'm excited to be starting out with focusing on guitar strings for now, and then digging deeper into playing guitar, as well as guitar maintenance, as I really get this business on the road.
