NICHES. The scariest word for most people when starting out. However, the idea of a niche should not scare you. Instead it should be exciting.

What is a Niche?

A niche is a distinct segment of a market, in other words an "audience".

When choosing a niche that fits you, you should be choosing something that is ideally an interest, a passion, a hobby, but it could be something that you would like to learn about. You don't need to BE an expert, you BECOME an expert.

I personally enjoy many different things. I enjoy basketball, I used to collect baseball cards, I like to go skiing, I am really interested in men's fashion, exercise, internet marketing, and I love everything about the online business world.

There are also many niches over the years that I have been very successful within without knowing anything about them before getting into them. Dieting, voice over IP, hosting...are just a few.

Almost anything you can think of is a niche and that is why we are going to get you to choose YOUR niche based on things that you are interested in. You can earn money online from absolutely every single niche because there are billions of people out there searching for information, for solutions, and spending billions of dollars or products/services every day.

The idea of a niche can be a little confusing at first, so I have created a video walk-through for this lesson "Choosing Your Direction - It Starts With a Niche" that is going to walk you through what a niche is, how you earn money through a niche, and I will get you choosing your initial direction online.

Check out the video below.

Your online business should not feel like a day job. Earning money online should be fun, and it is fun. This all starts with choosing a niche that you are interested in and will enjoy working with.

The MORE you enjoy doing something the LESS it feels like a job and the more productive you are going to be. Carson and I are immensely passionate about online business and teaching people how to make money online, so that is the niche we have chosen with Wealthy Affiliate.

Your niche could be anything, but at the core of your niche selection it should be something that you "like". Something you enjoy. Something you can talk about. Something you want to learn about.

Task 1: Choose Your Direction

We want you to select the niche that interests you most and gets you the most excited.

A few things that you should understand about niches are:

(1) You are going to be writing content within your niche
(2) You are going to be communicating within your niche
(3) You are going to be choosing products to promote within your niche
(4) You are going to get to help people within your niche.
(5) Your first niche PROBABLY won't be your last (so don't worry about it being perfect)
(6) Any SINGLE niche website can become a "full time" income/business

There is NO SUCH THING as choosing the wrong niche.

Also, note that you can always change your niche down the road. Just because you are choosing a niche now does not mean you will be in this particular niche forever. Either way, please do not spend a week choosing your niche. Within the next 15-30 minutes (maximum) you should have your "starting point" niche chosen.

If you have any questions about your niche, feel free to leave a question below and we will help you out.

If you are REALLY STUCK at this point and you cannot decide on a niche, perhaps you may be interested in the make money/affiliate marketing niche. If you don't have a niche at this point, this will be your niche and we have an Affiliate Bootcamp dedicated to those that are interested in promoting Wealthy Affiliate

==> Go here if that is you.

If you have any questions about your "niche" or direction of your business and you want to get feedback from the community, leave them below and we will be happy to help.

Onto the next lesson, building a website! Exciting stuff is ahead! :)

As a free starter, you get one siterubix website. You can't buy your own domain and have it hosted here until you upgrade to premium. Have built your siterubix site in site builder yet?

Ya and it's saying my limit timed out and that I have to get premium and that's what I got confused about

Hi there, I wanna help you, but I'm not sure I understand your question.

This platform teaches people how to build a website for Affiliate Marketing.

In case you don't know, Affiliate Marketing is the process of recommending other people's products and services, and earn a commission when someone makes a purchase through your affiliate link.

Best to complete what you started with the starter training, this will help you build a solid foundation with your website then once you have the grounding go to the Bootcamp course.

If you chop and change without completing the training you will get stuck and delay your thoughts on making money regardless if it is for a certain niche or promoting WA,.

Wishing you well

I come to the conclusion or decision that I wanted to promote and make money through Affiliate Marketing only and really promoting what WA founders and builders and movers of this website so my question is I still need to finish the starter lessons and get certification on that right to show that I have completed that aspect. Next question is do i jump to bootcam course without finishing the starter course? I really want to feel the starter course but also wanted to just be an Affiliate for WA and whatever the company is promoting on the internet. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Yes it would be feasible for you to follow the training and apply what is taught all is explained within the lessons. How to make money by Kyle There's no certification as such, however you can cover level one of OEC (own niche) and level one of AB (make money online niche) to test platform and see if it fits with your needs.

Definitely stick with the OEC training to the end. You'll see, it will improve you faster than the Bootcamp. Bootcamp is much more competitive.

Zenni, I am doing the same thing. What I am currently doing is concurrently doing both the starter course and the Bootcamp. If you look at the contents of both training they are very close with just very slight difference.

I am taking both because I believe (and this is for myself) that doing both training will benefit me and give me a stronger foundation. I hope that helps!

Cheers!

Niche question as per LC

A niche is something you are passionate about and would write 100 articles or so about it, could be a hobby, an interest perhaps. To put it in perspective, would you be writing about it in five years time.

Via Kyle:
A niche can honestly be anything, what are you passionate about? What are you interested in?
When deciding on a niche and trying to narrow down to a more specific niche, I recommend you ask yourself the following question:
I want to help people that ______________.
Fill in the blank and you are going to be much closer to a specific audience. After you do this and if you want to run any further ideas by me, let me know and I will give you a hand. :) You can do a google search

Your niche + affiliate programs
Your niche + affiliate programs + location

and see what results you get

You can use Jaaxy to drill down keywords, you are allowed 30 searches. Look for searches (avg.) above 30 and competition (qsr. ) lower than 100, the lower the qsr the better.

https://my.jaaxy.com/search/keywords

For your choice of keywords, always do an incognito search on Google before settling on a keyword, to see who appears in the top 3 positions.

You can search Affiliate Programs via left sidebar

"About me" and 'Privacy Policy"(Lesson 7) Level1 not posted before moving website to purchased domain - myjungledoctor.com

Hi,
I am distraught. I purchased my domain and moved my content from siterubix.com but I didn't like the look and was wondering what could be wrong. I retraced my steps to Lesson 7 and noticed I missed the required tasks - can't fathom what happened but I presume I viewed them as for demonstration purposes only. How do I make up now that my own domain is active? don't know how to make available on my domain the following as required by the tasks:
1. the "About me" post
2. the "Privacy Policy" post
Looks like they now have to be input in my new domain? and how? Do I change the theme to make things easier? Any suggestions or advice? Or play around editing the new website and how?

With best regards, John

Hi - click on Websites and go to Site Content. There are templates in there for About Me and Privacy Policy.

Write your About Me page and click the Publish button to add it to your new domain.

The Privacy Policy is pre-written, but there are some sentences within it where you need to add your domain name. Once done, click the Publish button.
