NICHES. The scariest word for most people when starting out. However, the idea of a niche should not scare you. Instead it should be exciting.

What is a Niche?

A niche is a distinct segment of a market, in other words an "audience".

When choosing a niche that fits you, you should be choosing something that is ideally an interest, a passion, a hobby, but it could be something that you would like to learn about. You don't need to BE an expert, you BECOME an expert.

I personally enjoy many different things. I enjoy basketball, I used to collect baseball cards, I like to go skiing, I am really interested in men's fashion, exercise, internet marketing, and I love everything about the online business world.

There are also many niches over the years that I have been very successful within without knowing anything about them before getting into them. Dieting, Karaoke, Cycling, Sun Protection...are just a few.

Almost anything you can think of is a niche and that is why we are going to get you to choose YOUR niche based on things that you are interested in. You can earn money online from absolutely every single niche because there are billions of people out there searching for information, for solutions, and spending billions of dollars or products/services every day.

The idea of a niche can be a little confusing at first, so I have created a video walk-through for this lesson "Choosing Your Direction - It Starts With a Niche" that is going to walk you through what a niche is, how you earn money through a niche, and I will get you choosing your initial direction online.

Check out the video below.

Your online business should not feel like a day job. Earning money online should be fun, and it is fun. This all starts with choosing a niche that you are interested in and will enjoy working with.

The MORE you enjoy doing something the LESS it feels like a job and the more productive you are going to be. Carson and I are immensely passionate about online business and teaching people how to make money online, so that is the niche we have chosen with Wealthy Affiliate.

Your niche could be anything, but at the core of your niche selection it should be something that you "like". Something you enjoy. Something you can talk about. Something you want to learn about.

Task 1: Choose Your Direction

We want you to select the niche that interests you most and gets you the most excited. There is NO SUCH THING as choosing the wrong niche.

Here are a few example niches out of 1,000's of potential ones:

  • Natural Skin Care
  • Learn How to Play Basketball
  • Starting an Online Business
  • Learn Sand Art
  • Baby Feeding
  • Wine Making
  • Cryptocoin Investing
  • How to Write Faster
  • Black and White Photography
  • Go Kart Racing
  • Make-up Tutorials

There are so many directions you can head, so simply choose an audience that you want to work with.

Also, note that you can always change your niche down the road. Just because you are choosing a niche now does not mean you will be in this particular niche forever. Either way, please do not spend a week choosing your niche. Within the next 15-30 minutes (maximum) you should have your "starting point" niche chosen.

If you have any questions about your niche, feel free to leave a question below in the comments area and we will help you out.

If you are REALLY STUCK at this point and you cannot decide on a niche, perhaps you may be interested in the make money/affiliate marketing niche. If you don't have a niche at this point, this will be your niche and we have an Affiliate Bootcamp dedicated to those that are interested in promoting Wealthy Affiliate (one of the most lucrative affiliate programs in the world).

==> Go here if that is you.

If you have any questions about your "niche" or direction of your business and you want to get feedback from the community, leave them below and we will be happy to help.

Onto the next lesson, building a website! Exciting stuff is ahead! :)

This video and instructions are very helpful, but in building my first website, I want to promote WA as a niche, but I want to start with Home & Office Electronics. I have an existing account on my FB page that promotes products from electronics companies in the Philippines. Can I hear some advice before I start to build my website? Thank you

If you are new to affiliate marketing, we always recommend starting out with your own niche vs the Affiliate Bootcamp (make money online niche) can be harder and more competitive. Plus if you are looking to earn sooner, your own interest niche is also better.

You may review below resource However, if you want to head to the Affiliate Bootcamp, the make money online niche you'd want to choose a target audience, folks who resonate best with you and you can build rapport and connect with through the creation of your content. Examples

Senior folks who are looking to make an extra income.
Students who want to fund their education.

ONE niche, a website. Products and programs can be varied however all must be relevant to the niche. And the recommendation is to focus on ONE site starting out as it takes lots of effort and work get it going, however once you know what you are doing, then the learning curve would be less steeper to scale up.

Appreciate your advice. Thank you very much.

What you have there are two separate niche ideas. One niche promoting WA to people looking to make money online, and the other niche aimed at people interested in home office products and electronics.

You can absolutely go in either direction, but they both wouldn’t go together in a single niche website.

If you choose to go with home electronics, continue with the OEC training. If you choose to promote WA in the make money online niche, go with the Affiliate Bootcamp training. :)

I decided to go with home electronics, and you're right that I need to continue with the OEC training because I don't know exactly what's the next move after I built my website. Thank you for your assistance.

Looks like you have chosen to go with home electronics. Looks like you have a FB account too. Great! When you first start you website focus on helping people with content - information. answers to questions they have about home electronics, problems that exist and solutions. Help before focusing you selling products.. Grow traffic to your website first. The training will teach you all of that and more so follow it step by step for best results.
    Hi there,

I'm proudly South African and here we love so many different things that makes us unique in certain ways.

On of these is "Biltong and Droë wors".
Is this a good Niche to get started with?

I'm unsure, as I haven't really come across anyone googling that before.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Kind regards

Any subject can be a niche, most important is to be passionate and genuinely interested in your niche,

You ought to discuss an aspect of Biltong and Droë wors to a qualified group of people who would be your target audience (that could be beginners or another group you have in mind), you would help people by giving them advice on an aspect, walk them through your journey and then promote products however relevant.

The more focused a niche website is starting out, the better chance it has to start having traction and traffic.

Please be aware you also need to create lots of content addressing issues related to your focused niche website.

If you are passionate about it by all means pursue your passion.

You could do a google search and see what comes up. That way you will see if people are interested in it. One thing to keep in mind is that your website can be global but if you choose something unique to South Africa only those people will know what it is and be searching for it. To grow your traffic you will be writing a lot of informational posts. Would that be easy to do.

    .Ideas to find a niche.
Do you have any hobbies? Sports? Problems you've solved? Problems you are looking to find solutions for? Products that are amazingly helpful? Something you talk a lot about? Something you wished you had learned earlier in life? Job skill? It is important you choose something you are passionate about. Something you enjoy researching and learning about. That way it will always be interested and enjoy it, and you'll have fun building it.

What ever you choose as a niche it is important that you are passionate about it and want to help people with it.
    Thank u for the introduction

What seems strange to me is why anyone would go to a unique, stand-alone website. It seems like a waste of time. When I am buying something online I go straight to the Amazon or Walmart website, etc., and would not even bother with any other website. Help me understand what are the reasons why someone would go to a website that is basically info only.
    TheAbie Premium Plus
A lot of folks would, however some others are searching for reviews and would want to make an informed decision and that's where you come in. When providing your visitors a detailed top-notch analysis review, as a thank you token, they click your link go purchase the focused item you proposed to solve their issue.

Also programs would want to hire affiliates to do the marketing for them and bring them customers, it is much cheaper for them vs having their own marketing team on site.

The geolocations are varied and broad. It makes sense to have an affiliate program in place for a business.

Many times people have questions about something and don't know which product to rather than do research themselves they rely on product reviews.

Many times even going to ecommerce websites is not easy to find exactly what one is looking for but a niche website will have niche related products very well categorized. Once people get used to finding good help on a website. they will go there instead because they know the price is the same as the ecommerce and they get the extra help before buying.

    Yes & No...
In some cases, you may be CORRECT......However in others, you may need to PROCESS more.....Different strokes for different folks.

It is like saying in baseball, a starting pitcher or a major RBI hitter may be more important....But during the playoffs, a closing pitcher or a key pinch hitter might end up making the difference.
    hi my lovers <3

and the legal pages of the blog? what is the best law firm that takes care of the legal pages of the affiliate blogs?

I don't see any affiliate entrepreneurs recommending law firms. they only recommend privacy policy websites generators.

in the disclamer page of this privacy policy sites generators, that affiliate entrepreneurs recommend, it says that "they don't represent a law firm, that legal information is not legal advice."

so where can I hired a law firm to take care of the legal pages of my affiliate blog.

    I want to work professionally.

    TheAbie Premium Plus
You may reach out to templates section of site content for your privacy policy, a disclaimer if need be and an affiliate disclosure which would be included later in the core training.

You are not obligated a firm unless you want to, you may want to include few clauses that's needed for your business requirements.

Please note a disclaimer is not included in the template section.

You don't need a law firm, you can use the privacy policy generators and we have a template available to you in level 2 of the training. These are standard documents, and all GDPR compliant.

So don't waste your time or money, you definitely DO NOT need a law firm to go over these documents or create them for you. They are very much standard.
    jghwebbrand Premium
Like Kyle says there is no need for a law firm to create papers for you. If you plan on becoming an affiliate marketer you are not responsible for the legal. You do not inventory, handle, ship bill or handle customer service. if you do affiliate marketing you will be providing helpful information related to your website topic and providing product reviews for niche related products. Affiliate marketing has been around a long time and what WA is presenting is all that is needed for Affiliate Marketing.

Initially we thought like you too, but have been doing this over 13 years and there is no need for all of the "legal papers". We use what WA provides.
    Hello Kyle

Today I wanted to start building a website
    Unfortunately, it did not happen
I did not understand the reason.
According to the tutorial, I chose the free part, then the domain name was allowed, I also wrote the title, the next step, I clicked on the green button - Build my site.
A few seconds back and forth to the first page.
In fact, it did not work. I don't know what the reason is?
    TheAbie Premium Plus
You can go to Site Builder

Choose a free domain, enter credentials and follow procedure.

    Tutorial I hope this helps.
    jghwebbrand Premium
So your website does not exist here?

As a starter member you get one free subdomain website. If none show up in the link above, Try again.

If you are prompted to pick a design (theme) make sure to do so.
Watch for any messages while the building process is occuring.
    I will try again
Wow, that was great, I did it, I feel good, a little excited
Thank you, the good news is that with your tips, I did it.
I have a website now and tomorrow I will start designing the logo and header.
    jghwebbrand Premium
    That's wonderful.
