NICHES. The scariest word for most people when starting out. However, the idea of a niche should not scare you. Instead it should be exciting.

What is a Niche?

A niche is a distinct segment of a market, in other words an "audience".

When choosing a niche that fits you, you should be choosing something that is ideally an interest, a passion, a hobby, but it could be something that you would like to learn about. You don't need to BE an expert, you BECOME an expert.

I personally enjoy many different things. I enjoy basketball, I used to collect baseball cards, I like to go skiing, I am really interested in men's fashion, exercise, internet marketing, and I love everything about the online business world.

There are also many niches over the years that I have been very successful within without knowing anything about them before getting into them. Dieting, voice over IP, hosting...are just a few.

Almost anything you can think of is a niche and that is why we are going to get you to choose YOUR niche based on things that you are interested in. You can earn money online from absolutely every single niche because there are billions of people out there searching for information, for solutions, and spending billions of dollars or products/services every day.

The idea of a niche can be a little confusing at first, so I have created a video walk-through for this lesson "Choosing Your Direction - It Starts With a Niche" that is going to walk you through what a niche is, how you earn money through a niche, and I will get you choosing your initial direction online.

Check out the video below.

Your online business should not feel like a day job. Earning money online should be fun, and it is fun. This all starts with choosing a niche that you are interested in and will enjoy working with.

The MORE you enjoy doing something the LESS it feels like a job and the more productive you are going to be. Carson and I are immensely passionate about online business and teaching people how to make money online, so that is the niche we have chosen with Wealthy Affiliate.

Your niche could be anything, but at the core of your niche selection it should be something that you "like". Something you enjoy. Something you can talk about. Something you want to learn about.

Task 1: Choose Your Direction

We want you to select the niche that interests you most and gets you the most excited.

A few things that you should understand about niches are:

(1) You are going to be writing content within your niche
(2) You are going to be communicating within your niche
(3) You are going to be choosing products to promote within your niche
(4) You are going to get to help people within your niche.
(5) Your first niche PROBABLY won't be your last (so don't worry about it being perfect)
(6) Any SINGLE niche website can become a "full time" income/business

There is NO SUCH THING as choosing the wrong niche.

Also, note that you can always change your niche down the road. Just because you are choosing a niche now does not mean you will be in this particular niche forever. Either way, please do not spend a week choosing your niche. Within the next 15-30 minutes (maximum) you should have your "starting point" niche chosen.

If you have any questions about your niche, feel free to leave a question below and we will help you out.

If you are REALLY STUCK at this point and you cannot decide on a niche, perhaps you may be interested in the make money/affiliate marketing niche. If you don't have a niche at this point, this will be your niche and we have an Affiliate Bootcamp dedicated to those that are interested in promoting Wealthy Affiliate

==> Go here if that is you.

If you have any questions about your "niche" or direction of your business and you want to get feedback from the community, leave them below and we will be happy to help.

Onto the next lesson, building a website! Exciting stuff is ahead! :)

Hello, everyone. I am interested in targeting homeowners and other businesses that provide the same services as Adyir Cleaning Solutions. During my 6 years with Adyir, I have learned that the right products are one of many factors of providing great service.

Adyir has a website which I put together. I hope to link the WA website to Adyir to increase more traffic.

You ought to discuss an aspect of cleaning to a qualified group of people who would be your target audience (that could be beginners or another group you have in mind). You would help people by giving them advice on an aspect, walk them through your journey and then promote products however relevant.

The more focused a niche website is starting out, the better chance it has to start having traction and traffic.

Please be aware you also need to create lots of content addressing issues related to your focused niche website.

Most important is to be passionate and genuinely interested in your niche

I'm in a real quandry. I'm between 2 niches I'm super interested in; Keto for senior citizens, which admittedly has lots of opportunity for affiliate marketing programs(I keep going back to my Keto for over 50 books in my Kindle) and overcoming self-sabotage for women who are either on the verge of getting assessed and diagnosed for ADHD or those who are newly diagnosed for ADHD. Both niches have an equal interest with me, but not as sure of affiliate marketing program opportunities as with the Keto one. I can write about both(one at a time), but those two are really see"duking it out"! It's driving me nuts. Karin advised the Keto, and I absolutely love that, but does that have to be on that diet to write about it, (though I plan to when money starts coming in), or will research do until I can start it?

You need aim for ONE focused niche with a specific group of people, I'd go with what's best resonates with me.

There's also a Niche Research template in site content, you may use to dissect your niche prior.

You may consult with https://answersocrates.com/ for further research into finding a subcategory starting out. You can search what real people are asking as in Questions, Prepositions, Comparisons, in the past, letters and query. It is also great if someone wants to write a thorough research based article.

You may also search Programs

Promote tab top menu

Or

You can do a google search
Your niche + affiliate programs
Your niche + affiliate programs + location
and see what results you get

What can you earn with Keto, you don't want a niche where you rely on the commissions for books, that is peanuts. I would research the products in both niches, Maghdalena. You can either type in "keto"+affiliate program in Google / Another way of doing it is to go to Jaaxy snd look up the keywords and find the top ten blogs and then see what those blogs are promoting, or go to research above. put a question on my profile, if you have more questions https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/thecatherine

Yeah, I noticed that especially Amazon Kindle books on keto are pretty low, with Amazon only paying out 5-6%. I know that some people into keto promote not just things like ingredients(read almond flour, coconut flour, but also cookware, cooking utensils, nutrients and supplements for the "keto flu" I want the broadest opportunity for affiliate commissions, and not just Amazon. I'll take your recommendation, and if I need more help after this, I'll write on your profile or PM you. :) Thanks again for the advice. It *does* help.

You don't necessarily have to buy the product but it will be important to have testimony that keto works. As long as you understand the product it is okay. It will be important to write unique posts so you get ranking and traffic. How can your approach be different so you get ranking?

I agree with you, Abie. I really want to focus on just one. I don't think I divide my time well, and multi-tasking doesn't work too well with me, lol.

I'll check those out. I didn't know about the Niche Research template, though. That's awesome! Thanks a million. Also, Ask Socrates is one I think I forgot as well,

Well, I'm certainly finding questions at Ask Socrates about Seniors and Keto, but nothing on Adult women with ADHD. That's interesting.

I'll check out the niche research template, definitely. Thanks. At least I'm moving ahead. :)

Thanks, again, Abie! A whole basket of strawberries for the Strawberry Princess for your help. :)

Hi,
Can someone help me, I'm working on keywords and all of mine come up with <10 for Avg and <10 for traffic and I'm using complete grammatically correct phrases that. make sense. My niche is 'Foods of Rome' so something like History of Roman Food', or 'History of the Globe Artichoke' and it seems that other any version of the keyword has the same low results. What am I doing wrong? Thanks

Hi - you might think that the result means less than 10, but it doesn't! It simply means that Jaaxy does not have enough data to produce an accurate result.

So, the keyword may be acceptable but always do your own research; go to Google itself and put in your keyword to see what results come up on page 1.

Ahh, thanks so much Diane, that makes total sense.

I would start with Google and type in your keywords. Watch wat auto populates. That will give you an idea of what people are searching for. You can do the what, why, now in front of your keyword google search as well for you more ideas and then you can check Jaaxy.

I agree with DianaScorpio, you have to keep on trying. Explore other avenues on keywords. Play with it and have fun. Don't overthink it too much. I believe that is where we all make our mistakes but over thinking the keywords.

My advice is step away for a little while clear your head and then come back refreshed and you will come up with some awesome keywords. I promise you.

Best wishes

You have a wonderful day yourself. Most of us do get caught up on the keywords so no worries like I said have fun and play around with the keywords. You will be amazed at what you can come up with in the keywords.

I am here no worries

avg <10 means that Jaaxy doesn't have enough data at this current in time.

Sometimes keywords may not currently have potential however this may change in the future dependent context, you may want to keep it in a list and see its progress if you believe it may become a keyword goldmine.

One small contribution for grammatically incorrect keywords: You can divide them with punctuation. Google doesn't report that as a broken keyword. It is still a full keyword.

For example:

Keyword: how does calorie counting work weight loss

Text: How does calorie counting work? Weight loss can be one of the reasons you're looking for the answer to this question.

Hi, thanks for this but I don't understand, I tried using punctuation and I still came up with <10 for Avg and <10 for traffic

Thanks!

Punctuation has no effect on Jaaxy looking up keywords.

hey thanks for this. I didn't think so but suddenly was questioning that.

I wasn't talking about looking up keywords but about how you can implement grammatically incorrect keywords to the article using punctuation so that the keyword can be recognized by Google but the flow of the article stays normal and grammatically correct.

I would suggest to readers that you first study your prospects' behaviours and preferences in the content writer's chosen niche market.
Otherwise you'll be wasting your time.
You've got to figure out what other people want, like or need because:

Most of them DO NOT CARE about what YOU WANT to give them!

They care about WHAT THEY WANT and whether YOU CAN GIVE IT TO THEM.

Do you understand?

Good.

So, in the words of Tolkien's Treebeard, "Don't be hasty!"

PS.
Don't faff around wasting time, either. You should be researching...
