NICHES. The scariest word for most people when starting out. However, the idea of a niche should not scare you. Instead it should be exciting.

What is a Niche?

A niche is a distinct segment of a market, in other words an "audience".

When choosing a niche that fits you, you should be choosing something that is ideally an interest, a passion, a hobby, but it could be something that you would like to learn about. You don't need to BE an expert, you BECOME an expert.

I personally enjoy many different things. I enjoy basketball, I used to collect baseball cards, I like to go skiing, I am really interested in men's fashion, exercise, internet marketing, and I love everything about the online business world.

There are also many niches over the years that I have been very successful within without knowing anything about them before getting into them. Dieting, voice over IP, hosting...are just a few.

Almost anything you can think of is a niche and that is why we are going to get you to choose YOUR niche based on things that you are interested in. You can earn money online from absolutely every single niche because there are billions of people out there searching for information, for solutions, and spending billions of dollars or products/services every day.

The idea of a niche can be a little confusing at first, so I have created a video walk-through for this lesson "Choosing Your Direction - It Starts With a Niche" that is going to walk you through what a niche is, how you earn money through a niche, and I will get you choosing your initial direction online.

Check out the video below.

Your online business should not feel like a day job. Earning money online should be fun, and it is fun. This all starts with choosing a niche that you are interested in and will enjoy working with.

The MORE you enjoy doing something the LESS it feels like a job and the more productive you are going to be. Carson and I are immensely passionate about online business and teaching people how to make money online, so that is the niche we have chosen with Wealthy Affiliate.

Your niche could be anything, but at the core of your niche selection it should be something that you "like". Something you enjoy. Something you can talk about. Something you want to learn about.

Task 1: Choose Your Direction

We want you to select the niche that interests you most and gets you the most excited.

A few things that you should understand about niches are:

(1) You are going to be writing content within your niche
(2) You are going to be communicating within your niche
(3) You are going to be choosing products to promote within your niche
(4) You are going to get to help people within your niche.
(5) Your first niche PROBABLY won't be your last (so don't worry about it being perfect)
(6) Any SINGLE niche website can become a "full time" income/business

There is NO SUCH THING as choosing the wrong niche.

Also, note that you can always change your niche down the road. Just because you are choosing a niche now does not mean you will be in this particular niche forever. Either way, please do not spend a week choosing your niche. Within the next 15-30 minutes (maximum) you should have your "starting point" niche chosen.

If you have any questions about your niche, feel free to leave a question below and we will help you out.

If you are REALLY STUCK at this point and you cannot decide on a niche, perhaps you may be interested in the make money/affiliate marketing niche. If you don't have a niche at this point, this will be your niche and we have an Affiliate Bootcamp dedicated to those that are interested in promoting Wealthy Affiliate

==> Go here if that is you.

If you have any questions about your "niche" or direction of your business and you want to get feedback from the community, leave them below and we will be happy to help.

Onto the next lesson, building a website! Exciting stuff is ahead! :)

I have my menu set up but my widget page is totally different than the one Kyle showed. Mine has HTML editing on it. I was able to remove the search bar and the categories widget though. Will we get more in-depth teaching on the widgets? Also, my homepage doesn't show my all-about-me post like Kyles does. It shows Add more posts and under that please publish more blog posts which is a link that takes you to some kind of blogging formatting. Is it because of my theme?

You may have set up your page to edit html vs visual, is this the case? You can change between html and visual controls in the block editor.

I would keep the search bar, because eventually you will have a lot of posts and a search bar becomes handy.

On the widgets you may click the navy plus icon to add something and the three dots to remove a block.

It could possibly a theme issue, however you can change your theme at any time,

You can also organize your posts under categories.

You will be learning more as you go along.

When you get to lesson 8 you will learn how to add a navigational menu. That is when you add your privacy policy page and about post to it.

The difference you see can also be affected by the theme you chose, But keep following th3te training and your site will take more shape.

I'm not sure if I set it up like that or if the theme did. I will try and go in and add the search bar back. Thank you for the tutorial. I will go check it out!

Hello everyone, I have a question. If you choose any niche and search for it in Google, there are many people who already have sites with the same niche and they appear at the top of the results. If I choose the same niche, can I compete with them and appear at the top of the results

That is the beauty of this endeavor, yes you can! As you go through the training videos you'll learn more about how google's, bing's, yahoo's algorithms and so on constantly re-evaluate websites to provide the best search results. The trainings, along with the WA community here, will definitely assist you of reaching that top page goal we all want to see for our websites.

That being said, any one can be successful in any niche, even the competitive ones as long as you can engage your audience, try to gear it toward creating personal connections as you can, have fun with it, and help your audience accomplish their goal. That may be in the form of a product recommendation, an informative blog, a trust worthy review. Work on a solid foundation from the teachings provided here and you'll be well on your way to that first page search result. Anything is possible as long as you believe in yourself and what you are doing!

And never, ever hesitate to reach out with questions or help if you need it. We're all in this together for one another.

Warm regards,

Ryan

Every niche has competition. The key is to choose a targeted audience and purpose for the existence of your website. No two people develop their niche the same. The training teaches you how to choose keyword phrases for your niche that are not as competitive. It all works.

Ideas to find a niche.
Do you have any hobbies? Sports? Problems you've solved? Problems you are looking to find solutions for? Products that are amazingly helpful? Something you talk a lot about? Something you wished you had learned earlier in life? Job skill? It is important you choose something you are passionate about. Something you enjoy researching and learning about. That way it will always be interested and enjoy it, and you'll have fun building it.

A niche should be for a targeted group of people How to narrow a niche down How To Expand Your niche later

Your about me is a post that goes in the blog roll. You may go to Appearance > Menus and add to your menu once you have created one. If you have it as a page you may change it using the Post type switcher plugin.

Sounds like you have created your menu.
Go back to your menu.
Wordpress backoffice -> appearance -> menu.
edit your existing menu. If privacy policy and about me appear you can drag their order in the menu so about is first.

.How to do menu
Go to Wordpress backoffice -> appearance -> menus
When in menus on right hand side do you see a menu you have created. If not create menu and save it.
Then on left hand side click page caret see your privacy policy -> add to menu. click on posts caret see your about me post.
> add to menu. Save menu on right hand side. refresh your browser and refresh your website.

You can host with WA here, however as and when you decide to become a premium member, as hosting is included with a premium subscription to the platform.

It is preferable to learn about ads first before investing in it. So I would follow up the SEO route starting out and when my website has made money you can then reinvest in your business from the proceeds vs your pockets.

As you have experienced you have lost money and didn't convert. And this is what WA teaches.

It looks like you are very new here.
Do you have a lot of traffic to your website and do you have a good landing page set up. That would be key. There are some good ad placement options, but some have a website traffic requirement. For example Mediavine I believe now requires 50K visitors in a month to a site.

How much money per month would you be happy
earning?
I would be happy making around $1,350-$2,000.
How much money per month would allow you to live
the ideal lifestyle?
I'd say in order for me to live a lifestyle I can be proud
of, It would be about 4,550 a month. But I'm not going
to get carried away with dreams…
How many hours per week are you willing to invest to
achieve these goals?
I'm willing to put in 25-30 hours a week.

Welcome to WA. We are delighted to meet you and so glad you are here.

As you build your online business remember the 4 Step Process. It is the successful framework for any online business.

Step 1: Choose your niche
Step 2: Build your website/content
Step 3: Get rankings in search engines (leads to traffic)
Step 4: Monetize your traffic (the make money part, through affiliate programs signing up for and adding affiliate links to your posts)

This is a very exciting opportunity and we wish you much success.

The way to learn the online process is to complete the Online Entrepreneur Training which is a self-managed program. You can do it at your pace. After you finish each task make sure to check mark the box in front of the task. When you have questions, you can ask them in the comments section after each lesson.
