NICHES. The scariest word for most people when starting out. However, the idea of a niche should not scare you. Instead it should be exciting.

What is a Niche?

A niche is a distinct segment of a market, in other words an "audience".

When choosing a niche that fits you, you should be choosing something that is ideally an interest, a passion, a hobby, but it could be something that you would like to learn about. You don't need to BE an expert, you BECOME an expert.

I personally enjoy many different things. I enjoy basketball, I used to collect baseball cards, I like to go skiing, I am really interested in men's fashion, exercise, internet marketing, and I love everything about the online business world.

There are also many niches over the years that I have been very successful within without knowing anything about them before getting into them. Dieting, voice over IP, hosting...are just a few.

Almost anything you can think of is a niche and that is why we are going to get you to choose YOUR niche based on things that you are interested in. You can earn money online from absolutely every single niche because there are billions of people out there searching for information, for solutions, and spending billions of dollars or products/services every day.

The idea of a niche can be a little confusing at first, so I have created a video walk-through for this lesson "Choosing Your Direction - It Starts With a Niche" that is going to walk you through what a niche is, how you earn money through a niche, and I will get you choosing your initial direction online.

Check out the video below.

Your online business should not feel like a day job. Earning money online should be fun, and it is fun. This all starts with choosing a niche that you are interested in and will enjoy working with.

The MORE you enjoy doing something the LESS it feels like a job and the more productive you are going to be. Carson and I are immensely passionate about online business and teaching people how to make money online, so that is the niche we have chosen with Wealthy Affiliate.

Your niche could be anything, but at the core of your niche selection it should be something that you "like". Something you enjoy. Something you can talk about. Something you want to learn about.

Task 1: Choose Your Direction

We want you to select the niche that interests you most and gets you the most excited.

A few things that you should understand about niches are:

(1) You are going to be writing content within your niche
(2) You are going to be communicating within your niche
(3) You are going to be choosing products to promote within your niche
(4) You are going to get to help people within your niche.
(5) Your first niche PROBABLY won't be your last (so don't worry about it being perfect)
(6) Any SINGLE niche website can become a "full time" income/business

There is NO SUCH THING as choosing the wrong niche.

Also, note that you can always change your niche down the road. Just because you are choosing a niche now does not mean you will be in this particular niche forever. Either way, please do not spend a week choosing your niche. Within the next 15-30 minutes (maximum) you should have your "starting point" niche chosen.

If you have any questions about your niche, feel free to leave a question below and we will help you out.

If you are REALLY STUCK at this point and you cannot decide on a niche, perhaps you may be interested in the make money/affiliate marketing niche. If you don't have a niche at this point, this will be your niche and we have an Affiliate Bootcamp dedicated to those that are interested in promoting Wealthy Affiliate

==> Go here if that is you.

If you have any questions about your "niche" or direction of your business and you want to get feedback from the community, leave them below and we will be happy to help.

Onto the next lesson, building a website! Exciting stuff is ahead! :)

I need help, please! when I'm setting my SEO meta title, it keeps telling me its too long. mines pretty basic, the only way to shorten it is to remove "the" from my domain name. is there a way to do this? (that would change it to For Love of Gardening and Yard) or possible change "and" to "&"

Your Meta title is under 60 characters. For the Love of Gardening and Yard. Is that the URL of your website? I would not use &.

Are you setting your meta title at wordpress backoffic -> settings (Not SEO) -> general -> site title

Tutorials If you are on mobile, adding one or two characters, then delete you are able to.

If title and tagline (Just another WordPress site), settings > general edit and save changes.

Just watching the video on this page, I'm wondering if we are able to have more than one niche or website? Of course, we are focusing on the one, but I'm wondering in the future once we are able to get a hang of everything and are profiting from our one website/niche?

I was seriously wondering the same thing!

There are many established marketers who run multiple websites and some people even market their own name to have multiple products under one website.

Thanks for asking! I was also wondering

Yes, when first starting it is important to focus on only one niche.
You will start with a narrow focus for a targeted audience
You will be writing posts for people to read on your website - who would be the audience you wish to write for and help? You will be writing both informational posts and product reviews. What kind of questions would people be asking about your niche that you can help them with as well? Your informational posts are important to grow your traffic. Yes, later you can expand your niche and or create a new niche website. Remember your goal is to become the "go to" site for your audience interested in your niche,. Once a site takes off in getting traffic, and you still have new content you can write, it is smart to stay with that niche because one niche website can bring a full time income. The results of all niche websites is not the same, but if you have something good going for you, keep with it...

You can, however the recommendation is to focus on ONE site starting out as it takes lots of effort and work get it going, however once you know what you are doing, then the learning curve would be less steeper to scale up.

I thought we put something on pages like Amazon and Best Buy and Walmart and each time somebody bought something we get paid that’s what I thought this was is it not.? Please help me to understand exactly what I’m doing I can follow the instruction as I watch the videos but that truly doesn’t mean that I knowWhat I am doing. Firstly as a niche is not a product vs a subject you would help people by giving them advice on an aspect, walk them through your journey and then promote products however relevant.

It is a process, it first starts with choosing a focused niche site, onward building relevant content addressing issues in relation to your niche site, getting ready for affiliate programs.

ONE niche, a website. Products and programs can be varied however all must be relevant to the niche.

Essentially you are writing more informational posts so that you do not sound so salesy to Google and if there’s a solution, a detailed analysis review post for your visitors to let them make an informed decision whether to go click your links and go purchase the focused item you proposed to solve their issue.

Therefore and to attain TRAFFIC is to write quality succinct content addressing issues in relation to my niche with a good choice of targeted searchable keywords worthy of your visitors attention, onward sharing onto social media platforms for organic outreach.

The recommendation to keep updating blog 2 - 3 posts a week and that's for the foreseeable future.

I hope this helps.

Have you checked if people have questions about your craft? If you type your craft name in a google search ode any ads appear? Those are indications of related products. Are there things you buy to do your craft? Those would be things you could use for affiliate links .Have you checked Jaaxy to see what keyword phrases appear and the search volume.

You have to write a new post every 2 or 3 days focusing on one low competition keyword each post. As you continue to do this indefinitely, Google will eventually begin to rank your posts high enough to bring in a lot of free traffic. But you have to keep writing. When you have the traffic you'll make some money.
Pick a niche you can write A LOT about and enjoy writing about

And I wouldn't even think about money until you have the traffic which can take around a year

Hi - if all you do is add a load of products to your website, then you will be just another shop among the millions already out there, and nobody will find your website.

The purpose of writing blog posts is to attract traffic and show Google how helpful you are. Once Google sees that your content is useful, it ranks your website higher so that people can find it.

So, if your niche is crafting, then you could write useful tips and how-to guides. Once you have started to get visitors, then you can write reviews of products you recommend so that your readers can buy them and earn you a commission.

Hey, I just finished setting up my website with SEO. I followed instructions and clicked on the pipe bar to separate my title from the little catch phrase. But after pushing save settings there still was no pipe bar separating the two. Just wanted to know if I was suppose to actually see the pipe bar after clicking on save settings?

Thanks

I am building a website on the free domain, and I am using one of the premium access website themes. If I decide to change themes, do I have to start over or is there a way to migrate all the information and settings from the first theme to a new one?
Reply
jghwebbrand Premium
When changing a theme you do not have to start over. Your pages, posts, images all remain in tact You may have to make some website header modifications and maybe footer changes but those are minor.

When you wish to change a theme, why not do a google search
your theme name + demo to see what it does first before installing and activating it.

Actually using the free siterubix.com domain website is a smart way to go because you do not have to redo any work when you decide to buy a dot com. You can MOVE your siterubix.com website to your dot com with the push of a button. The advantage of using the free domain name is that if you change your mind you can simply delete it and start over. But when purchasing a dot com domain name it cannot be deleted. There are industry standards in place. Since the free domain siterubix.com is a subdomain of the domain name siterubix.com the subdomain can be deleted.

When you are ready to MOVE your free sitrubix.com website here is the link. Yu will find it in level 2 training lesson 2.

No you do not.

To change your theme, here is what to do.

You may go to Appearance > Themes and add new.

Input what you are looking for, install and activate.

Your content will be left intact, you may lose out on CSS styles and social media icons if that, however with a bit of tweaking and you are done.

We always recommend you leaving a back up theme, you may od with the Twenty TwentyTwo.

I hope this helps
