NICHES. The scariest word for most people when starting out. However, the idea of a niche should not scare you. Instead it should be exciting.

What is a Niche?

A niche is a distinct segment of a market, in other words an "audience".

When choosing a niche that fits you, you should be choosing something that is ideally an interest, a passion, a hobby, but it could be something that you would like to learn about. You don't need to BE an expert, you BECOME an expert.

I personally enjoy many different things. I enjoy basketball, I used to collect baseball cards, I like to go skiing, I am really interested in men's fashion, exercise, internet marketing, and I love everything about the online business world.

There are also many niches over the years that I have been very successful within without knowing anything about them before getting into them. Dieting, voice over IP, hosting...are just a few.

Almost anything you can think of is a niche and that is why we are going to get you to choose YOUR niche based on things that you are interested in. You can earn money online from absolutely every single niche because there are billions of people out there searching for information, for solutions, and spending billions of dollars or products/services every day.

The idea of a niche can be a little confusing at first, so I have created a video walk-through for this lesson "Choosing Your Direction - It Starts With a Niche" that is going to walk you through what a niche is, how you earn money through a niche, and I will get you choosing your initial direction online.

Check out the video below.

Your online business should not feel like a day job. Earning money online should be fun, and it is fun. This all starts with choosing a niche that you are interested in and will enjoy working with.

The MORE you enjoy doing something the LESS it feels like a job and the more productive you are going to be. Carson and I are immensely passionate about online business and teaching people how to make money online, so that is the niche we have chosen with Wealthy Affiliate.

Your niche could be anything, but at the core of your niche selection it should be something that you "like". Something you enjoy. Something you can talk about. Something you want to learn about.

Task 1: Choose Your Direction

We want you to select the niche that interests you most and gets you the most excited.

A few things that you should understand about niches are:

(1) You are going to be writing content within your niche
(2) You are going to be communicating within your niche
(3) You are going to be choosing products to promote within your niche
(4) You are going to get to help people within your niche.
(5) Your first niche PROBABLY won't be your last (so don't worry about it being perfect)
(6) Any SINGLE niche website can become a "full time" income/business

There is NO SUCH THING as choosing the wrong niche.

Also, note that you can always change your niche down the road. Just because you are choosing a niche now does not mean you will be in this particular niche forever. Either way, please do not spend a week choosing your niche. Within the next 15-30 minutes (maximum) you should have your "starting point" niche chosen.

If you have any questions about your niche, feel free to leave a question below and we will help you out.

If you are REALLY STUCK at this point and you cannot decide on a niche, perhaps you may be interested in the make money/affiliate marketing niche. If you don't have a niche at this point, this will be your niche and we have an Affiliate Bootcamp dedicated to those that are interested in promoting Wealthy Affiliate

==> Go here if that is you.

If you have any questions about your "niche" or direction of your business and you want to get feedback from the community, leave them below and we will be happy to help.

Onto the next lesson, building a website! Exciting stuff is ahead! :)

In addition to my niche that I'm going to set up, I do have a CBD business I would like add as a registered domain (we already own it) as to take advantage of the web site design features and growing the business. Would this move make sense? Thanks for the advice. CC

Nice that you already have a registered domain.
Here are some questions you can ask yourself.
Does the move make sense?
What does your current hosting service charge?
Are you in need of ongoing training and help? Does your current hosting service provide what you need?

If you have the funding for $49 per month or $495 a year and you need training, a support community (and Site Support), a keyword research tool (unlimited usage) and the hosting of 10 websites, you can transfer your website to WA. Site Support will help you with that.

If you want to keep your current hosting service and see what the free training is all about first, you can apply what you learn in WA to your existing website.

You do have options, but your first decision is how does WA fit into your goal.

We wish you success as you do the free training and decide your next steps.

Hey Chris,

I agree with everything @jghwebbrand just said, and just thought I would try to add a little perspective. Now, it sounds to me like you are already learning things here from just the free training available?? If that is the case, in my humble opinion, I would highly recommend that you move to premium.

This is why - if you are enjoying it & learning so far, it only gets better. Absolutely there is enough within the free training to give you a complete yet general picture of how to succeed online, & also the tools to build a website. However, the next 40 lessons are where it gets really juicy! That is where you learn all the specific little actions that catapult your success & multiply it.

This platform is unlike any other I know of, & the value here is outstanding. The community, training, & coaching here are easily worth the cost alone. The website hosting & interactive platform, PLUS affiliate sales are all just icing on the cake! If nothing more than personal experience - I can assure you I don't regret it.

I hope this helps, and I would love to see you here with us in the coming years. If you ever need anything, feel free to reach out.

Blessings and success on your journey ~

Hey Chris, I absolutely agree with both comments.WA is unparalleled when it comes to training, technology and community. If the move makes sense to you, then why not?

As a member of WA for already three years, all I can add is that I'm happy with the service here and will be a member for life. The platform is continuously improving and things are just getting better and better as time goes by. So if you want to take the advantage of everything you get here, then why not?

But the decision is up to you.

Hello Coolmoose, I am sorry I can not help right now because I just return to WA after a long absence. I am in process of building my old website,, back up again. I am now following you, Be Safe and Be Successful!, LaurenceG
Thank you very much. I hope you pick up from where you left off after your absence and pretty sure you are more determined than ever before to accomplish it this time, All the best.
Thanks dear. Cutting back is near impossible with the kinda situation I'm in right now but thanks for these links. Checking them out just now.
Hi, I'm a bit stuck and totally overwhelm. I would really like to learn the entire online business concept and become good at it, and id like to choose the make money Affiliate Marketing as my first niche and join the Bootcamp, what better place to start right. Do I have to Pay for that? would it be like choosing any other niche?

Hi we always recommend starting out with your own niche vs the affiliate boot camp (make money online niche) as it is a lot harder and more competitive you would need write 300 to 400 post before you are able scratch the surface.

You may review below link for more info For the first 7 days from the date signing up you have full premium access to test drive the platform see if it fits with your business needs and objectives, do ask as many questions as you want to get clarifications. After the 7 days are up coms to the platform would cease. You get one siterubix subdomain which remains valid for six months to start building content and you can remain a free member indefinitely.

As and when you decide to upgrade to Premium, first month would be $19, then $49 monthly afterwards, subscription collected automatically.

Hi - as a free starter member, you have access to the first 10 lessons of each of the 2 training courses. Do be aware that BootCamp is very competitive and you may potentially have to write hundreds of articles all relating to making money online.

Most people prefer to start with their own choice of niche as it can be easier to write about a subject you have some knowledge of. Unless you already know about making money online it can be quite difficult to keep coming up with topics to write about for the BootCamp.
Thank you for your response greatly appreciate it:)

Need help on "about me" pages please people.

I have been searching online and looking at the pages that a lot of other blogs have, and they all seem to say I have been doing this for 10 or 15 or 20 years, etc.

You can see that in some cases they do have content on their site that is that old, some don't so, in those cases you would think that this is not their first trip around the merry go round and not their first site good for them, they have put in the hard yards and are now getting the results we are all working so hard to try and get as well.

However, what about when you have never done any of it not once ever and you have only had your site less than a week, what on earth can you put there that gets people to stay but doesn't burn your credibility down the track cause you were stupid enough to lie your ass off and got caught doing it?

Am I overthinking it or am I missing something that has gone straight over my head?

Simply tell your story and why you have your website. As time goes on your story will change.

I'm sure the about pages you read were a lot different in the beginning.
jghwebbrand Premium
Agree with the comment you already received. It looks like you doing a Make Money Online website.

Since you are new you could target those who have never done Make Money Online and have no clue how to do it. You can tell your story how and why you are doing your website. Have you been suckered into some scams?.

Why do you like WA? What were you looking for? Why do you want a change? What is your situation? Why do you want to help other people? .

Some things to think about. Tell your story. Make it interesting.

And like Leo says you can update it as time goes no.

Thanks, for the information I did understand I do very much appreciate it.

however, can I offer a little tidbit of advice to the ones that have been here a long time that may have forgotten about what it was like when they where newbies?

when talking to newbies please do not use jargon and acronyms you are not helping us you are just confusing us we have absolutely no idea what on earth any of it means or what you are saying.

It would be like me trying to talk my trade to someone that knows nothing about I.C.T. engineering about buffer overflows, dramm types, clock speeds, hyperthreading, latency, data protocols, VLANs, SDN's, network switching layers and so on.

I know it is not always easy to remember and do, it is something that even I had to learn the hard way myself when I was given charge of my very first apprentice once I was fully qualified in the trade.

Seeing the glazed over blank look on his face, I had to realise I was talking to a student, not a fellow trade qualified engineer.

Many thanks to everyone for the help.

You do it by simply being genuine and transparent with who you are and what you intend to do with your site.

Having lots of analysis paralysis atm... this side of the internet is definitely not my expertise. All the controls like editing my website, writing posts, the pages and comments are pretty overwhelming. I feel as if it's going to take quite a while to figure how all of it works together.
