NICHES. The scariest word for most people when starting out. However, the idea of a niche should not scare you. Instead it should be exciting.

What is a Niche?

A niche is a distinct segment of a market, in other words an "audience".

When choosing a niche that fits you, you should be choosing something that is ideally an interest, a passion, a hobby, but it could be something that you would like to learn about. You don't need to BE an expert, you BECOME an expert.

I personally enjoy many different things. I enjoy basketball, I used to collect baseball cards, I like to go skiing, I am really interested in men's fashion, exercise, internet marketing, and I love everything about the online business world.

There are also many niches over the years that I have been very successful within without knowing anything about them before getting into them. Dieting, Karaoke, Cycling, Sun Protection...are just a few.

Almost anything you can think of is a niche and that is why we are going to get you to choose YOUR niche based on things that you are interested in. You can earn money online from absolutely every single niche because there are billions of people out there searching for information, for solutions, and spending billions of dollars or products/services every day.

The idea of a niche can be a little confusing at first, so I have created a video walk-through for this lesson "Choosing Your Direction - It Starts With a Niche" that is going to walk you through what a niche is, how you earn money through a niche, and I will get you choosing your initial direction online.

Check out the video below.

Your online business should not feel like a day job. Earning money online should be fun, and it is fun. This all starts with choosing a niche that you are interested in and will enjoy working with.

The MORE you enjoy doing something the LESS it feels like a job and the more productive you are going to be. Carson and I are immensely passionate about online business and teaching people how to make money online, so that is the niche we have chosen with Wealthy Affiliate.

Your niche could be anything, but at the core of your niche selection it should be something that you "like". Something you enjoy. Something you can talk about. Something you want to learn about.

Task 1: Choose Your Direction

We want you to select the niche that interests you most and gets you the most excited. There is NO SUCH THING as choosing the wrong niche.

Here are a few example niches out of 1,000's of potential ones:

  • Natural Skin Care
  • Learn How to Play Basketball
  • Starting an Online Business
  • Learn Sand Art
  • Baby Feeding
  • Wine Making
  • Cryptocoin Investing
  • How to Write Faster
  • Black and White Photography
  • Go Kart Racing
  • Make-up Tutorials

There are so many directions you can head, so simply choose an audience that you want to work with.

We have a "Niche Finder" tool that you can use to come up with ideas, it is very easy to use and will help you come up with all sorts of ideas.

Simply enter your ideas, and then click "Find Me Niches" and it will produce 10 targeted niches to your search.

===> Access the Niche Finder Tool Here

Also, note that you can always change your niche down the road. Just because you are choosing a niche now does not mean you will be in this particular niche forever. Either way, please do not spend a week choosing your niche. Within the next 15-30 minutes (maximum) you should have your "starting point" niche chosen.

If you have any questions about your niche, feel free to leave a question below in the comments area and we will help you out.

If you are REALLY STUCK at this point and you cannot decide on a niche, perhaps you may be interested in the make money/affiliate marketing niche. If you don't have a niche at this point, this will be your niche and we have an Affiliate Bootcamp dedicated to those that are interested in promoting Wealthy Affiliate (one of the most lucrative affiliate programs in the world).

==> Go here if that is you.

If you have any questions about your "niche" or direction of your business and you want to get feedback from the community, leave them below and we will be happy to help.

Onto the next lesson, building a website! Exciting stuff is ahead! :)

Good morning everyone..I hope you all had a great Christmas with family and friends...I've got a couple of questions about niches...
I have a few different niche ideas: 'Healthcare' with a focus on a couple of sub niches such as 1/ drug and alcohol rehabilitation
2/ cosmetic surgery packages in Thailand and Sth Korea
    3/ Healthcare supplements
    4/ Defibrillators

'Personal security' ie Personal alarms and security devices

    'Motorcycle accessories'

I really want to get cracking asap on my website so I would be very grateful for your feedback...

    Many thanks in advance.

Sure, you have lots of great niche ideas there. One thing that you might want to consider is the medical niches are something that you have to be careful about...as Google want's some sort of credentials if you are going to head in a direction where you would typically be offering "doctor" based advice.

Because of this I would recommend that you consider heading in either the Personal security/alarms or motorcycle niches.

When deciding on a niche and trying to narrow down to a more specific niche, I recommend you ask yourself the following question:

I want to help people that ______________.

Fill in the blank and you are going to be much closer to a specific audience. After you do this and if you want to run any further ideas by me, let me know and I will give you a hand. :)

Great advice...much appreciated...I def would not be giving people advice other than referring them onto the person that runs the organisation and they could take over from there...It's a huge industry in Thailand and many expats travel there for drug and alcohol treatment but I'm not sure if they any have an affiliate programme set up. If they don't, do you recommend moving on or can they be offered help to set one up?

I would also follow up on legalities before you proceed.

You can do a google search
    Your niche + affiliate programs
Your niche + affiliate programs + location
and see what results you get

Sure, it could be a good niche...and you could also sell leads to these treatment centres as well, that is another business model you can leverage once you are able to attract qualified and relevant traffic.

I know someone first hand that does that in real estate, they utilize the web to captures leads and sell them off to realtors. Lots of ways to monetize traffic once you have it.

When undergoing the"Get Rolling" and subsequent lessons I was under the impression that when we leave then and return for the next lesson, if we select the blue "Continue" button, the program will take us back to the last lesson we were on when we left,.

My trashing does not do that. When I select the "Continue button it always takes me back to the beginning of the lessons. Then I must scroll down endlessly to find where I left off.

I fill in all the completion boxes for each lesson, once I've completed it.

Am I expecting a feature that is not available??

Hi all, trying to think of Niches here, I do have a big passion for Theme Parks / Attractions as this was an interest of mine ever since I was kid. However, I am having trouble "narrowing" down this Niche as I'm not sure how I could possibly monetize this through a Blog.

Could anyone possibly help me how I can find possible narrowed down niches for Theme Parks / Attractions please? I appreciate all the help. :)

There are many directions that you can head within this niche. Remember, a niche is an audience or group of people that you want to help and this sounds like your passion here:

    1. Theme Park Enthusiasts
    2. Roller Coaster Fans
    3. Water Park Lovers
    4. Amusement Park Goers
    5. Theme Park Riders
    6. Theme Park Adventure Seekers

These are definitely directions that you can head here, and in terms of monetization, there will be many ways that you can generate revenue from this, it could be through affiliate programs, through ads, or even through the sale of your own products/courses. This will be covered in level 3 of the training.

Let us know if you have any further questions. :)

Hi Kyle, thanks for getting back to me! Out of all of these, Theme Park Enthusiast sounds the best (considering I'm one myself!). I could also argue that the other groups are the same as theme park enthusiasts aswell, since we love theme parks and are fans of the rides, etc.

I guess the best route for this sub-niche is to possibly have a blog talking about each theme park/attraction worldwide with pro's/con's as I feel these can have affiliate programs for admission to the park, and ads of course.

Would you say this is a good idea? Do you have any profitable ideas for a theme park enthusiast blog/website?

    Thanks again, Kyle

You may want to start with a locality, the one you most know of as your sub-category, and once wholly exhausted, you may branch and scale out.

Your target audience is super important here too.

Who would benefit most from what you have to offer?

However, i can see that Kyle got you covered; feel free to reach out when you need help or have other questions.

Good to have you here with us.

I think that choosing a niche is the difficult part of this course. Cause there are many subjects we can choose from and I think that every one thought that if he chose the wrong niche he will fall in the project.
For me I chose: Starting an Online Business as a niche, waiting the opinion of the management.

It would be best if you had a subject and a target audience.

    Examples

    Mountain biking for beginners.
    Luxury travel for seniors. Etc.

Or Make money online niche i.e., the Affiliate Bootcamp.
