NICHES. The scariest word for most people when starting out. However, the idea of a niche should not scare you. Instead it should be exciting.
What is a Niche?
A niche is a distinct segment of a market, in other words an "audience".
When choosing a niche that fits you, you should be choosing something that is ideally an interest, a passion, a hobby, but it could be something that you would like to learn about. You don't need to BE an expert, you BECOME an expert.
I personally enjoy many different things. I enjoy basketball, I used to collect baseball cards, I like to go skiing, I am really interested in men's fashion, exercise, internet marketing, and I love everything about the online business world.
There are also many niches over the years that I have been very successful within without knowing anything about them before getting into them. Dieting, voice over IP, hosting...are just a few.
Almost anything you can think of is a niche and that is why we are going to get you to choose YOUR niche based on things that you are interested in. You can earn money online from absolutely every single niche because there are billions of people out there searching for information, for solutions, and spending billions of dollars or products/services every day.
The idea of a niche can be a little confusing at first, so I have created a video walk-through for this lesson that is going to walk you through what a niche is, how you earn money through a niche, and I will get you choosing your initial direction online.
Check out the video below.

DISCUSS THIS VIDEO HERE: Choosing Your Direction - It Starts With a Niche!
Your online business should not feel like a day job. Earning money online should be fun, and it is fun. This all starts with choosing a niche that you are interested in and will enjoy working with.
The MORE you enjoy doing something the LESS it feels like a job and the more productive you are going to be. Carson and I are immensely passionate about online business and teaching people how to make money online, so that is the niche we have chosen with Wealthy Affiliate.
Your niche could be anything, but at the core of your niche selection it should be something that you "like". Something you enjoy. Something you can talk about. Something you want to learn about.
Task 1: Choose Your Direction
We want you to select the niche that interests you most and gets you the most excited.
A few things that you should understand about niches are:
(1) You are going to be writing content within your niche
(2) You are going to be communicating within your niche
(3) You are going to be choosing products to promote within your niche
(4) You are going to get to help people within your niche.
(5) Your first niche PROBABLY won't be your last (so don't worry about it being perfect)
(6) Any SINGLE niche website can become a "full time" income/business
There is NO SUCH THING as choosing the wrong niche.
Also, note that you can always change your niche down the road. Just because you are choosing a niche now does not mean you will be in this particular niche forever. Either way, please do not spend a week choosing your niche. Within the next 15-30 minutes (maximum) you should have your "starting point" niche chosen.
If you have any questions about your niche, feel free to leave a question below and we will help you out.
If you are REALLY STUCK at this point and you cannot decide on a niche, perhaps you may be interested in the make money/affiliate marketing niche. If you don't have a niche at this point, this will be your niche and we have an Affiliate Bootcamp dedicated to those that are interested in promoting Wealthy Affiliate.
Onto the next lesson, building a website! Exciting stuff is ahead! :)

Also, the font on the third heading of my ABOUT ME post does not match the other two and I have tried all the different font settings there. How can I fix this?
Cheers to your success,

Phew, I’m really not technically minded at all so building my website is proving to be a challenge...but I’m getting there!
The videos and training are brilliant for me, step but tiny little step guides are what I need for this.
I’m very far from my comfort zone, which is good, I’m learning great things...my 2nd website will be easier to build...there’s optimism for you!
Give me a garden to work in with plants and seeds etc, I have no problem with...this is a bit like growing seeds...with patience and diligence my website will flower...
Have a great day everyone.

I will be happy to earn $200 per month.
QUESTION #2: How much would you be ecstatic earning?
Honestly I can't tell but I am guessing between $300 - $600 per month.
QUESTION #3: And how much TIME are you willing to invest to achieve these goals?
I am willing to sacrifice 4-6 hours after hours a day because i work for 8 hours a day to reach my goals.
I have a question about the menu tabs at the top navigation position. You had mentioned in your training that some templates do and some do not have the Home menu tab. Mine did not, though I was able to add it by following your instructions. My question is that the one I created does not perform (no side menu, text presented in a narrower format) the same as the other tabs in the top or main menu navigation,. Can you possibly please enlighten me as to why this may be the case. Thank you for any help you can provide.

David from Working Light here...:`)
Kyle u are awesome. Moving ahead at my pace. Slow but learning in leaps and bounds. Bitten by the internet entrepreneur proverbial bug.
I know now. After hours of work when possible, at home, instead of wasting time between JOBS(Just Over Broke),....I'm getting busy finally. it will be awhile before i'm paid. No Worries.
Time to be independent. Thanx Kyle and Carson.
Will be premium when it's time. Then I can start paying forward.
Be loved
P.S. Glad I figured out how to reach you.
P.P.S. Best of luck to all at WC.
Thank you for any insight.

#2 Airbrushing & tattooing been doing this tattooing since 14 airbrushing started in 2012

P.S: I have a master card
thanks
I hold a PhD degree in women health and infertility. And I have successfully sold in the past anti-aging products "Offline" but failed to duplicate that success online and lost lots of money.
So, it made sense to me to try again now that I am learning the process all over the right way. I understand that this niche falls under health and beauty which is very competitive industry. Any suggestion as how to narrow it down? Alter it?!
I also thought about teaching the technical aspect of podcasting and/or voice over since I have been doing both for over 13 years now. I can also recommend products (mics, mixers..etc) for commissions. But I have also noticed that neither have a big market to make it a long-term.
Finally, Keto Dieting since I have been on it for few months now and the results are just amazing. Lost more than 14Kg so I think I can contribute in this market. But is keto diet very generic?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
I'm currently building the list of keywords for the site I'm building and I've noticed that in the list for the first word I've typed I've got the Avg at over 100, but the QSR shows no number at all (it's literally blank). Is this to indicate to me that the keywords displaying these stats are uncommon-but-ripe-keywords, or is this indicative of something else?
Thank you,
Oz
A newbie here. And I wonder whether it is allowed to skip the tasks and proceed to next lesson. As we know that as non-premium member we'all only have 7 days to ask questions in the forum.
I don't think that I can manage to upgrade my status as yet, on the other hand I don't want t waste and want to make use as much as possible those chances given whilst proceeding as far as I can go the process of the first 10.
Thank you in advance :)
I am planning on making my website as popular as possible but as i am doing my lessons now, I took the free domain with siterubix, my question is if this would affect my ability to get traffic and make money on my site.
Would I be better of using a bought .com domain? I would think having your own domain that you bought will be better?
1. Who is the owner of bought domain via WA?
2. Can i edit my webpage (not siterubix, com) in different ways than using siterubix or WA? In other words.. what will happen to my page when i decide one day to leave WA community?
3. I wanted to pick one specific domain name but its now available. Is it worth to buy that .com page or is it better to pick .net (for example). I thing websites with .com looks more professional than .net .org ...
P.S. I hope #2 doesnt sound like i want to run away from WA today. Im only 2 days here but im really excited about this. This second question just means if i have full access and control above my website.
Thanks for answers and wish you all nice day.
Dave
Reviews can be my niche, such as reviews on different health products, beauty products, movies, and yoga & exercises because I'm very much keen to Know about healthy lifestyle.
Could you please advise me on the same.
Also tell me if I buy my own domain name then I won't have siterubix(.)com in my website URL. E.g. if I create free website then I will have health(dot)siterubix com but if I buy my own domain name then it would be like health(dot)com.
I have taken health as an example.
Kindly advise
My question is, do i use the keyword type 'best (topic/product) reviews'? or just 'best (topic/product)'
I hope this makes sense.
I may be making this more difficult? Thanks for your input & patience!
I did affiliate program in the past (down to drain) and the hardest obstacle I had to overcome (which I didn't) was coming up with a niche...
It took me weeks there... nothing.
Here while watching the video, I came up with one that quickly and after following your suggestions I came up with 2 more.
So I can't express my gratitude to you enough...
Thank you.
Can one add affiliates to their website at this beginning stage or does one have to have lots of traffic before adding affiliates?
Also, at what point can one let readers know that they are getting paid through affiliate marketing? Is it possible to add something to the "Privacy Policy" page?
Thanks
I was thinking of having this website for tips and guides and such, and have the products marketed on the side, such as the kind of gear popular players use.
Second, I'm concerned about copy right. Is it something I need to be worried about? Lets say someone does a site about comic books, would they be in danger of being sued? Then there is also the concern of imagery on the box of an affiliate item that is linked. This may be a silly question, but I spent my early ears as an artist, and we were taught from day one to fear the copy right system.
I’m excited to give this a shot,
