NICHES. The scariest word for most people when starting out. However, the idea of a niche should not scare you. Instead it should be exciting.

What is a Niche?

A niche is a distinct segment of a market, in other words an "audience".

When choosing a niche that fits you, you should be choosing something that is ideally an interest, a passion, a hobby, but it could be something that you would like to learn about. You don't need to BE an expert, you BECOME an expert.

I personally enjoy many different things. I enjoy basketball, I used to collect baseball cards, I like to go skiing, I am really interested in men's fashion, exercise, internet marketing, and I love everything about the online business world.

There are also many niches over the years that I have been very successful within without knowing anything about them before getting into them. Dieting, voice over IP, hosting...are just a few.

Almost anything you can think of is a niche and that is why we are going to get you to choose YOUR niche based on things that you are interested in. You can earn money online from absolutely every single niche because there are billions of people out there searching for information, for solutions, and spending billions of dollars or products/services every day.

The idea of a niche can be a little confusing at first, so I have created a video walk-through for this lesson "Choosing Your Direction - It Starts With a Niche" that is going to walk you through what a niche is, how you earn money through a niche, and I will get you choosing your initial direction online.

Check out the video below.

Your online business should not feel like a day job. Earning money online should be fun, and it is fun. This all starts with choosing a niche that you are interested in and will enjoy working with.

The MORE you enjoy doing something the LESS it feels like a job and the more productive you are going to be. Carson and I are immensely passionate about online business and teaching people how to make money online, so that is the niche we have chosen with Wealthy Affiliate.

Your niche could be anything, but at the core of your niche selection it should be something that you "like". Something you enjoy. Something you can talk about. Something you want to learn about.

Task 1: Choose Your Direction

We want you to select the niche that interests you most and gets you the most excited.

A few things that you should understand about niches are:

(1) You are going to be writing content within your niche
(2) You are going to be communicating within your niche
(3) You are going to be choosing products to promote within your niche
(4) You are going to get to help people within your niche.
(5) Your first niche PROBABLY won't be your last (so don't worry about it being perfect)
(6) Any SINGLE niche website can become a "full time" income/business

There is NO SUCH THING as choosing the wrong niche.

Also, note that you can always change your niche down the road. Just because you are choosing a niche now does not mean you will be in this particular niche forever. Either way, please do not spend a week choosing your niche. Within the next 15-30 minutes (maximum) you should have your "starting point" niche chosen.

If you have any questions about your niche, feel free to leave a question below and we will help you out.

If you are REALLY STUCK at this point and you cannot decide on a niche, perhaps you may be interested in the make money/affiliate marketing niche. If you don't have a niche at this point, this will be your niche and we have an Affiliate Bootcamp dedicated to those that are interested in promoting Wealthy Affiliate.

I joined WA a few years back and didn't see any success. Not so much because of the program but my health was an issue. I am new to affiliate marketing but not the concepts. I firmly believe that Clickfunnels can be an integral part of my success. Is that covered in this course? Thank you.

Hi Crushingyou,

I've considered Clickfunnels, but it is quite expensive.

My research advised that it was for people with an already established list, i.e. lots of people to send to.

The funnel "first' approach is setting yourself up for failure, and an expensive failure at that. The reality is that you shouldn't consider "email marketing" (which is what building a funnel is), until you first understand your audience, how to convert them, and you have a solid base of traffic.

I don't recommend worrying about an autoresponder or getting into email marketing until you have a source of traffic no less than 100 clicks per day.

If you focus on email marketing before that, it is far too premature and you will end up spending too much time on managing your list, broadcasts, follow-up sequences, integration into your site, etc...without focusing on the most important thing first. Traffic!

Hi Yoso,

1. Go into site content
2. Go to top on right you will see Templates
3. You will see About Me and Privacy page templates
4. those are the only two you need at this stage
5. You do not click on create a new template because those are there in template form for you already.

Hope this helps!
Rami.

Hi - you don't need to delete your site. Click on Site Content. At the top of the page, you will see your own photo. Above your photo are 3 tabs - My Content, Writing Stats and the third one is Templates.

On the first Site Content page, can you see the Templates box (it is after the My Content and Writing Stats boxes)?

I have a question before I start creating my website. I like the baby niche category which I know it is very popular since I use all the time because I have a daughter. For example if I get this niche i have to chose for example DIAPERING. That would be my niche? Or I have to narrow it down? Like changing table, diaper bags, etc. Thank for the help my friends.

Hi Joan,

No-one could "tell" you what is right for you.

As a grandparent I would suggest breaking it down into stages and have your site titles reflect this, e.g.:-

0-3 mths

3-6 mths

6-9 mths

9-12 mths

12-18 mths

18-24 mths

24 mths +

Fit the requirements and affiliate ops into each title.

You should be able to click on Websites > Site Content and then on Templates. There, you should see templates for various options including About Me, etc. Click on that to bring it up and start creating a post.

I am working a niche idea, would like a little help. Would knives and blades meaning anything with a blade be a good niche or is that too saturated? I collect blades I think they are cool. Although I like them and use I don't know a lot about them so what kind of content would I be providing about my niche? If that doesn't work I also love everything about the outdoors and all the activities and equipment that goes with it, camping, hiking, mnt biking, longboarding, rock climbing, etc. I have lots of hobbies. Also, I love just designing and developing products in the materials stated in my profile.

Anything will help, any advice?

Thanks

Any of those can be a great niche. The trick is to be able to produce quality content (articles, reviews, etc.) consistently and build a following of trust. I highly recommend something your both passionate and knowledgeable in. This will make it less like work and more like fun and won't have you doing a lot of research at the beginning, etc.
