NICHES. The scariest word for most people when starting out. However, the idea of a niche should not scare you. Instead it should be exciting.

What is a Niche?

A niche is a distinct segment of a market, in other words an "audience".

When choosing a niche that fits you, you should be choosing something that is ideally an interest, a passion, a hobby, but it could be something that you would like to learn about. You don't need to BE an expert, you BECOME an expert.

I personally enjoy many different things. I enjoy basketball, I used to collect baseball cards, I like to go skiing, I am really interested in men's fashion, exercise, internet marketing, and I love everything about the online business world.

There are also many niches over the years that I have been very successful within without knowing anything about them before getting into them. Dieting, voice over IP, hosting...are just a few.

Almost anything you can think of is a niche and that is why we are going to get you to choose YOUR niche based on things that you are interested in. You can earn money online from absolutely every single niche because there are billions of people out there searching for information, for solutions, and spending billions of dollars or products/services every day.

The idea of a niche can be a little confusing at first, so I have created a video walk-through for this lesson "Choosing Your Direction - It Starts With a Niche" that is going to walk you through what a niche is, how you earn money through a niche, and I will get you choosing your initial direction online.

Check out the video below.

Your online business should not feel like a day job. Earning money online should be fun, and it is fun. This all starts with choosing a niche that you are interested in and will enjoy working with.

The MORE you enjoy doing something the LESS it feels like a job and the more productive you are going to be. Carson and I are immensely passionate about online business and teaching people how to make money online, so that is the niche we have chosen with Wealthy Affiliate.

Your niche could be anything, but at the core of your niche selection it should be something that you "like". Something you enjoy. Something you can talk about. Something you want to learn about.

Task 1: Choose Your Direction

We want you to select the niche that interests you most and gets you the most excited.

A few things that you should understand about niches are:

(1) You are going to be writing content within your niche
(2) You are going to be communicating within your niche
(3) You are going to be choosing products to promote within your niche
(4) You are going to get to help people within your niche.
(5) Your first niche PROBABLY won't be your last (so don't worry about it being perfect)
(6) Any SINGLE niche website can become a "full time" income/business

There is NO SUCH THING as choosing the wrong niche.

Also, note that you can always change your niche down the road. Just because you are choosing a niche now does not mean you will be in this particular niche forever. Either way, please do not spend a week choosing your niche. Within the next 15-30 minutes (maximum) you should have your "starting point" niche chosen.

If you have any questions about your niche, feel free to leave a question below and we will help you out.

If you are REALLY STUCK at this point and you cannot decide on a niche, perhaps you may be interested in the make money/affiliate marketing niche. If you don't have a niche at this point, this will be your niche and we have an Affiliate Bootcamp dedicated to those that are interested in promoting Wealthy Affiliate.

I want to edit my niche to a more specific one basing from my keywords research findings. I would like to edit my content too. Will that be find?

I am currently in contact with my bank account and it looks like, God willing, I will be able to upgrade to premium membership either today or tomorrow.

Hi, Rose. Welcome to WA.
Narrowing your niche is a good start. And yes, it is fine to edit your posts.
I tried using my visa debit card but it was not approved by my bank. I will join as soon as I got my right mode of payment. Expect for it. I see it longer than May 11, 2020 as we are still under ECQ in our region and the processing of credential cards in the Philippines takes a bit long. I actually requested for replacement of my old SSS ID but the replacement got loss on courier and the one responsible did not do measures to get another one for me. I did not have the time freedom or should I say, I did not prioritized to renew other expired credentials nor secure other credentials

We'll just remember one thing girl the winners in this world are the people that don't give up so don't give up I'm struggling right now trying to figure this stuff out but I'll get it.
Thanks Amynwa20
Hi everyone! I have a couple of questions I'd like you to help me with
Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself in the training but what exactly are we supposed to doin the niche, I know affiliate marketing but before you get into programs you have to put something on the page? like some articles.
After how long do you get into programs?
merlynmac Premium
The primary focus is on building trust and authority with your visitors. Then you start adding reviews, recommendations, etc.

You'll use your affiliate links at that point.

Hey Valeria
OK, so the guys running the affiliate programs want to see that your site is getting a good amount of traffic before they'll allow you to promote their products - sounds sensible - no point in wasting time on someone who has no traffic coming to their site.

So, to get that traffic you fill your site with articles/videos/podcasts, however you want to produce your material.

If you keep doing this consistently and the material is good content then the search engines will start to take notice and begin to rank you for your keywords.

Now, you're getting traffic so now is the time to start applying to join affiliate programs.

Hope that helps
Thank you vou very much, Yeah, that was helpful. :)

I am experienced Global Adsense publisher and am Global top 5% Adsense Advocate and have over 400 websites. I have a site that has over 1 million uniques a day and have never had success using affiliate programs (meaning anything remotely close to 1k more a week.) I've worked with Rakuten, ShareASale, and countless independents for years and I'll get trickles of income. The only success we had was in some of our overseas markets (we are in 192 countries) but nothing to consistently survive on. I worked Ebates, had internal affiliate programs with little results. I have a newsletter that has over 2 million subscribers and pushed affiliate programs in direct category and never made more than $100 in a month. So can you sell me on what on an advanced level makes your program effective?

What's it that I see here my friend. With so much of your experiences, making less than a 100 bucks monthly surprises me.

Are we all going to be on the wrong track?

WA does teach a lot about creating good content and Jay's webinars are awesome learning. Why not take advantage of this current special and try the training out for a year? $299/year is cheap (just $25/month). With that many unique visitors and no significant sales, something is missing - maybe you can figure it out from the training here. Just promoting WA its-self with that traffic should bring in a great income. -shirley

With such vast experience, and such little results, my advice would be to rethink your current strategy. You're focused on the "advanced" stuff, but I think you should go back to the beginning and see how people are creating effective affiliate websites from the ground up.

Earning money online via affiliate marketing isn't about who's the most advanced, or who as the best tools. You can have a very effective, very profitable website with nothing but a blog and some high quality articles.

Since you are already familiar with affiliate marketing and are already earning some income (even if it's just a little), my best advice would be to throw down $19 and see the training for yourself.

Hi buddies,
Could someone make it clear for me about the website building, content's section. I am still working on it but one thing I am not sure with is; do I have to publish it even if I have not finished or still wait until I complete everything? I am just saving it but not publishing.
Thank you.
suzieq Premium
Hi Mehari,
Only publish it when you're ready to have people see it. If it's only a few tweaks you still have to make, then go ahead. But if you're still adding content to it so it makes sense, then just save until you can complete it.
Don't take too long though, haha. It won't get indexed in your drafts!
PCohen1 Premium
Hi Mehari.
From what I understand from your question. I believe you can publish at any time once you think you are ready to.
You can go back and edit at any time!!
Hope this helps.

One thing I do, just because I am not very good at websites is I open 2 windows, watch the training videos in 1 and when I need to do something to my site pause the training switch the window and apply immediately so as to avoid confusion later. Then just go back to the training.
MayMcDaniel Premium
I do the same thing.
Mehari2 Premium
thank you for this, I do the same. but my question is:
I am working on building my About Me. Your work will be saved automatically.
Do you publish the un-finished work? or leave it saved?
Mehari2 Premium
Thank you so much Suzieq, you answered my problematic question:)) I appreciate it.
