NICHES. The scariest word for most people when starting out. However, the idea of a niche should not scare you. Instead it should be exciting.

What is a Niche?

A niche is a distinct segment of a market, in other words an "audience".

When choosing a niche that fits you, you should be choosing something that is ideally an interest, a passion, a hobby, but it could be something that you would like to learn about. You don't need to BE an expert, you BECOME an expert.

I personally enjoy many different things. I enjoy basketball, I used to collect baseball cards, I like to go skiing, I am really interested in men's fashion, exercise, internet marketing, and I love everything about the online business world.

There are also many niches over the years that I have been very successful within without knowing anything about them before getting into them. Dieting, voice over IP, hosting...are just a few.

Almost anything you can think of is a niche and that is why we are going to get you to choose YOUR niche based on things that you are interested in. You can earn money online from absolutely every single niche because there are billions of people out there searching for information, for solutions, and spending billions of dollars or products/services every day.

The idea of a niche can be a little confusing at first, so I have created a video walk-through for this lesson "Choosing Your Direction - It Starts With a Niche" that is going to walk you through what a niche is, how you earn money through a niche, and I will get you choosing your initial direction online.

Check out the video below.

Your online business should not feel like a day job. Earning money online should be fun, and it is fun. This all starts with choosing a niche that you are interested in and will enjoy working with.

The MORE you enjoy doing something the LESS it feels like a job and the more productive you are going to be. Carson and I are immensely passionate about online business and teaching people how to make money online, so that is the niche we have chosen with Wealthy Affiliate.

Your niche could be anything, but at the core of your niche selection it should be something that you "like". Something you enjoy. Something you can talk about. Something you want to learn about.

Task 1: Choose Your Direction

We want you to select the niche that interests you most and gets you the most excited.

A few things that you should understand about niches are:

(1) You are going to be writing content within your niche
(2) You are going to be communicating within your niche
(3) You are going to be choosing products to promote within your niche
(4) You are going to get to help people within your niche.
(5) Your first niche PROBABLY won't be your last (so don't worry about it being perfect)
(6) Any SINGLE niche website can become a "full time" income/business

There is NO SUCH THING as choosing the wrong niche.

Also, note that you can always change your niche down the road. Just because you are choosing a niche now does not mean you will be in this particular niche forever. Either way, please do not spend a week choosing your niche. Within the next 15-30 minutes (maximum) you should have your "starting point" niche chosen.

If you have any questions about your niche, feel free to leave a question below and we will help you out.

If you are REALLY STUCK at this point and you cannot decide on a niche, perhaps you may be interested in the make money/affiliate marketing niche. If you don't have a niche at this point, this will be your niche and we have an Affiliate Bootcamp dedicated to those that are interested in promoting Wealthy Affiliate.

Hello everyone... From my understanding, after we type our keyword(s) and click on Search, the results for the QSR should show. It did not for me (see picture attached).

Under the KQR I have to click on each one listed to get the QSR. That takes a long time. I clicked on the QSR, like it was shown in the video to rearrange them, but nothing changed.

How can all the QSR show automatically, like it was in the video?

So it happened to me.

Hi - we are given the Jaaxy Lite version to use which means you have to click the results manually. You would need to pay extra each month to get the version that populates automatically. To be honest, it only takes a few seconds to quickly click down the entire column, you don't have to wait for each one to load.

Hi Andree3. Yes, I noticed the same thing when I started using Jaaxy. My understanding is that it doesn't auto-populate the QSR's with this level of subscription. I've however been clicking on each of the QSR's individually. It doesn't take that long to go through the entire list on the page. Consider it a minor hurdle to overcome on your way to success.

Is it necessary to upgrade my PayPal account to a business account to receive money from affiliates? I've seen on other groups people complain that their PayPal accounts get frozen if they have a personal account (granted this is from people who run drop-shipping stores, but I'm wondering if the same applies to affiliate marketing).

Any advice is highly appreciated.

Regards,
Janine

Hi Janine,
Your Pal account is for limited amounts and is great for those. As you know they are normally frozen when transactions are disputed.
Once your business is up and running and you are starting to receive amounts from your affiliate(s) it may be sensible to then start thinking on a business account.
Costs are a major element in any business and there is no need to accrue costs unnecessarily.
There also the issues related to tax and a business account regarding all your transactions will be very helpful in gathering all your transactions exclusively to meet tax regulatory requirements.
For now so far as amounts are relatively limited staying with a pay pal account is sensible knowing you can upgrade to a business account when it is required by you.

I was on one of the lessons and kyle mentions how every niche is a good niche but how do i know that my niche is not over saturated making it even harder to be ranked?? B/c if alot of people do the same niche doesn't that make it almost impossible to reach the top ? im just a little confused

Hi - any niche can be profitable, but if it helps to know, the three most popular are health and wellness, making money and relationships. That makes them the most competitive.

You need to narrow your niche down to have less competition. So, not just a subject, but a target group too. For example, cruising for seniors, indoor gardening for students, vegan cosmetics for sensitive skin etc.

Hi, I created a website with SiteGround last night. What will be the next thing to learn? I am having some issues coming up with 'good niches' that will direct my content on my website. Any suggestions and help will be appreciated. I do not want to go premium just yet.

As you go along in your training, you'll learn about how to build content, attract customers, make sales, find affiliate partners and more. The niche selection lessons are early on in the training. You'll see that very shortly.

I would recommend that you leverage that platform here to build and manage your websites. It is far more advanced than SiteGround and it will set you up for success as the websites here are fast, scalable and rank well in search engines.

When deciding on a niche and trying to narrow down to a more specific niche, I recommend you ask yourself the following question:

I want to help people that ______________.

Fill in the blank and you are going to be much closer to a specific audience. After you do this and if you want to run any further ideas by me, let me know and I will give you a hand. :)

Lesson 10 on the rocks... didn't say much about keeping up and running my website, just a review of what I've learned so far... so i have to find out a way again to bring in some traffic on my path with visitors... at this stage i'm only halfway toward make any profit. Thank you for all your lessons, but I'm not ready yet become a Premium Member. I thought that will be a guide to built up some categories for my website or something similar to start my trip, but not even a clue of how to get up and making my website work

Hi - the key to attracting visitors is to add lots of valuable content, making use of keywords, and this is what you need to concentrate on during the early stages of building up your website.

Google views all new sites with suspicion for the first 6 months, so this is the period when you need to show your website is active. Ideally, you should be adding new content of a minimum of 1000 words, 2 or 3 times per week.

Affiliate marketing is a slow and steady process, and you are unlikely to make any income for at least 3 months, and more realistically it will be 6 months.

have you tried the other level one and the two classrooms
you still have a lot of content on the site available for free from members
so use the search bar - click on the stars at the top of articles you want ot read in the future and recall them with the star at the end on the search bar.
good luck progressing forward
keep us updated how far you get and when you feel you have get as far as you can Cipriano.

Well Cipriano, for just 17 bucks more you can have access to ALL the training for the next month, well worth it IMO,,

but after that month you either have to stump up $49 or leave......
so why not explore the rest of the free content and wait till you have a few months of money together before leaping in.
just my 0.02c worth.

You don’t have to leave. Just know that for $49 a month Kyle is giving this away. You’re just not going to be able to get more of what you need if you’re not prime. This value here is well worth it and much more! It’s invaluable information and you’re not likely to find its equal anywhere else. This is an awesome opportunity. Or go yearly and save!
