NICHES. The scariest word for most people when starting out. However, the idea of a niche should not scare you. Instead it should be exciting.

What is a Niche?

A niche is a distinct segment of a market, in other words an "audience".

When choosing a niche that fits you, you should be choosing something that is ideally an interest, a passion, a hobby, but it could be something that you would like to learn about. You don't need to BE an expert, you BECOME an expert.

I personally enjoy many different things. I enjoy basketball, I used to collect baseball cards, I like to go skiing, I am really interested in men's fashion, exercise, internet marketing, and I love everything about the online business world.

There are also many niches over the years that I have been very successful within without knowing anything about them before getting into them. Dieting, voice over IP, hosting...are just a few.

Almost anything you can think of is a niche and that is why we are going to get you to choose YOUR niche based on things that you are interested in. You can earn money online from absolutely every single niche because there are billions of people out there searching for information, for solutions, and spending billions of dollars or products/services every day.

The idea of a niche can be a little confusing at first, so I have created a video walk-through for this lesson "Choosing Your Direction - It Starts With a Niche" that is going to walk you through what a niche is, how you earn money through a niche, and I will get you choosing your initial direction online.

Check out the video below.

Your online business should not feel like a day job. Earning money online should be fun, and it is fun. This all starts with choosing a niche that you are interested in and will enjoy working with.

The MORE you enjoy doing something the LESS it feels like a job and the more productive you are going to be. Carson and I are immensely passionate about online business and teaching people how to make money online, so that is the niche we have chosen with Wealthy Affiliate.

Your niche could be anything, but at the core of your niche selection it should be something that you "like". Something you enjoy. Something you can talk about. Something you want to learn about.

Task 1: Choose Your Direction

We want you to select the niche that interests you most and gets you the most excited.

A few things that you should understand about niches are:

(1) You are going to be writing content within your niche
(2) You are going to be communicating within your niche
(3) You are going to be choosing products to promote within your niche
(4) You are going to get to help people within your niche.
(5) Your first niche PROBABLY won't be your last (so don't worry about it being perfect)
(6) Any SINGLE niche website can become a "full time" income/business

There is NO SUCH THING as choosing the wrong niche.

Also, note that you can always change your niche down the road. Just because you are choosing a niche now does not mean you will be in this particular niche forever. Either way, please do not spend a week choosing your niche. Within the next 15-30 minutes (maximum) you should have your "starting point" niche chosen.

If you have any questions about your niche, feel free to leave a question below and we will help you out.

If you are REALLY STUCK at this point and you cannot decide on a niche, perhaps you may be interested in the make money/affiliate marketing niche. If you don't have a niche at this point, this will be your niche and we have an Affiliate Bootcamp dedicated to those that are interested in promoting Wealthy Affiliate.

If you have any qustions about your "niche" or direction of your business and you wan to get feedback from the community, leave them below and we will be happy to help.

Hi! So I’m currently in the process of finding my niche... and I wanted to know, is it possible to have a niche with such a variety. I mean I’m aware I enjoy and am passionate about many things, being: self care, dancing, singing, crafting, teaching/ enriching, nature, human life as a whole, etc. But I find that all those things root down to one source.

Entrepreneurship. I tend to notice that as I think of all my passions, I can only imagine myself applying them in business form, when I think of starting a business I feel that I can’t be rooted down to just one. And for that very reason I feel as though I’m capable of started individual business for each of my passions, businesses that are all based on spreading awareness and helping others with similar strengths or challenges in these fields.

So I guess the real question I was curious about was “Is it possible to have: Entrepreneurship in a variety of fields” as a niche. This is the closest I’ve felt to the “correct answer” and sums up just about everything making me comfortable in picking it. I’m just unsure if it’s too vague of a niche or not? Please advice? :)

Hi, I just started building a website for a niche I already suspect it won't generate a lot of money because it is crowded already. However I want to get strated, learn and make progress. So, once I find a better niche than the one I'm aiming at now I will build a second website. (I have a premium subscribtion)
Is this a good idea ? Or should I first take more time to find a better niche ?

I suggest you follow the training progressively from start and choose a specific niche. (take more time to find a better niche)

You are allowed up to 10 domains.

You can use Jaaxy to drill down keywords. Look for searches (avg.) above 30 and competition (qsr. ) lower than 100, the lower the qsr the better (as in the training)

https://my.jaaxy.com/search/keywords

Do let me know if you need anything else. Have a nice day.

The probem with hitting the right niche is that u only actually begin nderstading how this really works, a bit further on. So i suggest you try and spend a bit of time in finding a specific niche. Its a spin off between narrow and too narrow.

Hi Gilbert,

A Niche should be specific, evergreen, profitable, a solution to a problem, and most importantly a passion you can live for.

What is it you are so passionate about? Something that you can turn into a lot of content that will fill your website with and attract visitors to your site.

Specific: Who is your targeted segment? Who will benefit from your site? Gender, age, occupation, etc.

Evergreen: it has an everlasting appeal to your audience/target market.

Profitable: this one is pretty self-explanatory.

A solution to a problem: You'd like to make sure your site can help your audience to address their problems.

Lastly, yes passion. Why? Because we will write a lot of content. It should be much easier when it starts with passion.

Probably these blog posts writen by Kyle and other WA members would spark an idea for you to choose your niche: All the best,

You know what; I would just ask who you can about this. No Offense meant; I would just suggest you try asking Magistudios. Magistudios I think is an Expert around here. For him; just type his name into the search engine above.

If I am wrong about that? I Apologize; and other Members please correct. And if I offend Magistudios; I apologize; but the more experienced Members I think have to try to help out Members just learning; hope this helps?

If you make your site better than the rest then it won't matter about the competition. There is competition for every niche.

Competition can be a good thing (at least you know it’s working for others!)

What is your niche idea?

If I would tell you now I would feel uncomfortable, in several ways. So I don't. Maybe later. ;)

Awesome! Level 1 - Getting started completed! (Again, lol)

One of the hardest things to handle is patience when starting over. Knowing that it is going to take time for any new website to really take off is a tough one, but there is no way around it.

It sure is great to be back!

ok I hate that I'm one of those ppl that can't seem to figure out what niche they should choose but here I am. I originally had a niche picked out but once I got further into the training I realized that the niche I chose wasn't gonna be a feasible choice. I've already wrote my about me post on my website as it relates to my original niche so Im gonna have to go erase that and I've basically stopped going forward in my training until I can figure out what my niche is gonna be. Feeling very stuck. Need help

If you are following the Bootcamp Training (Make Money Online/MMO Niche), then realistically, it will take about 400 posts to really make a serious amount of income from it. If you are publishing 2-3 posts per week, then you can expect to start appearing on Page 1 of Google around months 3-6. This can vary of course based on your keyword research and your content quality etc.
The MMO niche is very competitive so you may want to choose the OEC training, your choice. It will generally take 3-6 months before you see any real ranking/income though. It takes a lot of continuous hard work to get there either way.
