OK, awesome. You now have your niche, in other words, the direction for your brand & business. That is great and don't worry about this not being "perfectly clear" at this point, as you move forward the pieces of the puzzle are going to come together.

Starting with a big piece today, your website. We are going to be taking our niche idea and turning it into a tangible business starting with your website.

Building a Website Ain't Scary, It's FUN!

Building a website sounds like a "scary" process, but fortunately you have access to the most advanced, yet simplistic website platform in the world here at Wealthy Affiliate. We pride ourselves as a technology company here at Wealthy Affiliate and we are the industry leaders in the website development space.

I am not going to toot our horn any longer, I would rather you experience the website builder and platform for itself. The first step today is going to be building your website, which will literally take you less than 30 seconds.

Click the SiteBuilder link

within the menu, and you are going to be ready to rock here (and complete the next task).

Below I have included a "Building Your Website in Under 30 Seconds" video walking you through the Website Platform (also known as SiteRubix) here at WA and showing you how quickly and efficiently you can build a website here at Wealthy Affiliate.

Task 1: Build Your Website

Your website is your foundation of your business. It is where all of your traffic is ultimately going to come to, where you are going to build brand and trust within the industry, and where you can promote products/services and generate $$$!

The SiteBuilder platform here at WA is the most simplistic, yet advanced in the industry. It is going to take less than 30 seconds to get a fully operational, profit ready Wordpress website up and running online.

There are 4 steps in the website build process, that I am going to walk you through here. To access the SiteBuilder and EVERYTHING related to your website, you will simply click the light blue "SiteRubix" button in the main menu.

Step 1: Choose the Kind of Website

There are really TWO options here, on a FREE website or on your OWN domain. Ideally, you will have your own domain, but that can come with time.

You can "register" your very own domains right within Wealthy Affiliate using our state of the art SiteDomains platform, which will allow you to instantly set-up your own domain for your own use.

If you are just starting out as a Starter member, you will be building a website on the .siterubix.com domain, which is a completely free website. You can build and host your own FREE website as a Starter.

As a Premium member, you can build and host up to 10 websites (including websites on your own domains). As a Premium Plus+ member, you can build and host up to 50 websites (including websites on your own domains). That is more than adequate to drive many multi-million dollar businesses over time and our hosting platform is industry leading in terms of speed, security, and reliability...all critical factors to running a successful online business.

For the sake of this training, we are going to be choosing "On a free domain".

Do know that within the Premium membership, you can easily MOVE a free .siterubix.com button to a registered domain (one you own) using the "Premium Only" MOVE feature. So by all means start off with a free website and then down the road you can easily move it to your own domain.

Step 2: Choose a Domain

Remember last lesson when I chose my "niche". In this step, I am going to be choosing a name for my website and placing it in the "domain name" field. This is because this will be my website URL and my brand moving forward.

As you can see below, I have added my brand "how to lose belly fat today" into the domain field.

When you type in your domain, it will let you know if it is available or not. In my case it was, but if your first choice is not available simply do another search until you find a domain name that works for you.

You cannot put spaces in your domain name, hence why my domain is "howtolosebellyfattoday".

Step 3: Choose a Website Name

The name of your website should match your domain, but it just needs to be grammatically correct (with proper spacing). You can see below my example of this:

Domain: basketballskillsanddrills.siterubix.com

Title: Basketball Skills and Drills

It is as simple as that. Don't overthink this step, your title will be the same as your domain.

Step 4: Choose a Design

The last step is choosing a "look" for your theme. As a Starter member you will have access to ONE theme that has been hand picked for quality, speed, security, and overall theme design.

As a Premium Member though you will have access to over 4,134 designs (as shown below) or your website and there are always new designs being added to this daily. These are referred to as "Themes".

Choose a design that you like.

Click on the design you like, and then you will be able to build your site.

SiteRubix, a Next Level Website and Hosting Platform.

You are going to notice that there are many other website features allocated within the SiteRubix menu. I don't want to eat up too much of your time here, but it is important that you understand the incredible benefits of the SiteRubix platform.

After viewing the Setting up your Niche Website video, I went to the back office Dashboard to continue work.

However, there was more there than the video showed.

The top line on the Dashboard said to upgrade to WordPress 5-5-1. But before upgrading, there is an instruction to do a backup of the website information. Is the backup something WA does for us continually/automatically, or does the website owner have to do a backup before actually doing the upgrade?

If you go to the WordPress instruction link that is on the Dashboard on how to back things up, you see a quagmire of impossible to follow information. Am I missing or misreading something?

What should I do? Thanks in advance to anyone who can some guidance.

Site Support automatically backs up every 24 hours, not to worry.
Kyle Premium
Yeah, back-ups are handled automatically. That is just language that Wordpress uses for, and many hosting companies don't provide back-ups or stable hosting, so that is a requirement.

Here at WA you have regular snapshots taken of your website, so if something were to happen you could always contact SiteSupport and they could get you back up and running.

Thanks Kyle. I had to leave for a few hours. When I returned, it was nice to see such a quick response to my question. You and WA are top drawer

Hi, just a couple of questions on the plugins. When i activated the All In One SEO Pack, it says Upgrade to Pro. Do i need to do this, as this is an extra cost?
Also, the theme i've chosen recommends the following plugins: One Click Demo Import, TP Education, WP Google Maps and WooCommerce. Should i install these as well?
DianeScorpio Premium
Hi - no, you don't need to upgrade the All In One SEO, the free version is fine. As for the others, you don't need to install them at this stage. You should avoid having unnecessary plugins as it slows down your site.
AndyTiller Premium
Thanks for clearing that up Diane, and the speedy response!
amjadjudeh Premium
Hi Andy,

Forget about the pro plan of the SEO plugin, we all use the free plan as it is more than enough.
Almost all free plugins and themes offer paid plans that has extra features, but you don't really need any of them for an affiliate site.

I use many plugins and I have never used the paid plan for any of theme.

And for the theme, you don't need any of these recommended plugins.
I think the theme you have chosen was mainly designed for selling courses or products by creating an online store on WordPress, and that's why they recommend WooCommerce and TP Education, which is something you don't need for affiliate marketing.

Regarding plugins in general, the training will tell you whenever you need to install a plugin, don't install anything extra as there are ten's of thousands of plugins for different features, and many plugins might cause slowness in the website and security issues.

For the themes, there's a free theme called GeneratePress that you can install, it is the same one I'm using for the most of my sites, including the one you visited before joining WA.
It is a decent and cleaned theme, and although they have a paid plan also, but the free plan I'm using is really great and better than most of the free themes out there, and it gets updated regularly for no cost on you.

Even Kyle and Jay (The Live Webinars coach) are using this theme on their sites.

Don't stress over the look of the site, as for now no one will be really finding it on Google, and anyway, the GeneratePress theme can be customized later as for the main appearance.

In general, the cleaner the theme looks the better it is for readership and conversions (commissions).

I hope that helps. Please, let me know if you have more questions!

its say two free web sites but now at lesson 10 it say to buy the member shit to do the rest of the web site right so there is not no free web site i was going to do the two free ones then buy the member shit and do 10 more web sites so i hasve 12 in all but you could only do 10 because there is not free site are there is it at all
That seems fair to be totally honest because they are going to help you make money in return
jbguitar Premium
Are you in a country that doesn't allow the 2 free siterubix sites?

A lot of people here started on those free sites, got experience, and were able to eventually upgrade.

You get a lot for free that no other site in the world would give you. You can stay as a free member as long as you want. This is a great way to get your writing skills and creative juices working.

That being said-Wealthy Affiliate is a business. They aren't going to be giving you Premium dot com sites for nothing, free hosting of them, or the higher level training. They would go under really fast doing that.

I wish the best for you

the structure of the platform changed this year and the training has not kept up - it is supposed to be updated later this year...
so starter members get one free site and premium member now have 10 sites total
one site is enough for you to make money - but it is picking the right niche
as a starter you do have one free siterubix site and access to both level ones and two classrooms under the training along with a lot of the training the members have created....
so have a look at the structure of the course and type it into the search bar - you may find members have created training about it .....
good luck
jbguitar Premium
I didn't realize they changed the two free sites to one free one so sorry for the mistake. One thing to do here is to focus on a well-defined niche and put all of your focus into one site.
That's totally fine and yes I'm still just going through the lessons and the great thing is that I can stop and come back later to continue learning and going through the lessons, that's something I've not seen on anything else
DianeScorpio Premium
Hi - as the others have said, you only get one free website, the rules changed in March. And as a premium member, the maximum is now 10.

According to your profile, you have already built your free website, so I am not sure what you are saying. You now need to write lots of articles for it on your chosen niche subject, and when you have enough content you can apply to join affiliate programs and promote products to earn a commission.

Do be aware that this is not a get rich quick scheme and requires months of consistent work before you make any money.

Yes, it was changed back to one in May. I have new training coming to reflect that, but we have an entirely new UX coming in the week ahead so that is why it is delayed here.

another question.. I use hostgator for hosting, if i transfer my domain to WA does that mean WA is now my new hosting and if so should i just cancel host gator ? also will all my current plugins still be there if i transfer my domain to WA ? i know it's a lot of questions but thanks
AbieAJ Premium
You need to be a premium for you to do that.

You can either transfer your domain or point your servers to WA.

The latter of which you renew domain fees at Hostgator.

If you site has content and want to transfer it to WA, you need get in touch with site support for further instructions, again you have to be a premium to utilize this service.
jayivey0218 Premium
i understand, i'll be upgrading to premium soon.. thank you
AbieAJ Premium
You are very welcome. Ask away, not a problem. No hurry take time do your due diligence.
onlinegeek Premium

1. You can cancel your Hostgator recurring 'hosting' payments after pointing your domain to WA servers.
2. Transfering your domain to WA can be done after the mandatory waiting period has elapsed, it used to be 1 year.
3. Use a backup plugin like Updrafts or other WP site transfer plugins so that you can restore your site including plugins inside WA hosting.

All the best.

Well, I guess I have comments and questions so please bear with me. Deciding on a niche is difficult for me because the things and interests I used to have no longer apply because I am now disabled and my interests and hobbies I am no longer able to do. If however I find a niche or more, can I have more than one product in one niche website? What I mean by that is in thee finding a niche video, the example of a niche was make up brushes. That seems so narrow. Should or could a person choose a slightly larger niche and offer more than one product like make-up brushes and lets say make-up remover? My second question is about becoming a WA marketer. I assume that there are a lot of people promoting it. Isn't there too much competition? If I choose to promote other money making programs, how would that happen? Would I have a website reviewing at home money making programs? How would I do that with out trying them out? It would costs thousands of dollars.I apologize that my post is so long. Wish me luck.

In the fist instance, I' like to suggest that you

Follow the training and apply what is taught all is explained within the lessons. How to make money by Kyle As you go along the coursework, ask as many questions as you like to get clarifications, mark your question as community and someone will always be here to answer your inquiries.

A niche is something you are passionate about and would write 100 articles or so about it, could be a hobby, an interest perhaps. To put it in perspective, would you be writing about it in five years time.

Via Kyle:
A niche can honestly be anything, what are you passionate about? What are you interested in?
When deciding on a niche and trying to narrow down to a more specific niche, I recommend you ask yourself the following question:
I want to help people that ______________.
Fill in the blank and you are going to be much closer to a specific audience. After you do this and if you want to run any further ideas by me, let me know and I will give you a hand. :) You can do a google search

Your niche + affiliate programs
Your niche + affiliate programs + location

and see what results you get

You can use Jaaxy to drill down keywords, you are allowed 30 searches. Look for searches (avg.) above 30 and competition (qsr. ) lower than 100, the lower the qsr the better.

For your choice of keywords, always do an incognito search on Google before settling on a keyword, to see who appears in the top 3 positions.

You can search Affiliate Programs via left sidebar

Hi Matthew! I'm new to this process, too and just went on in with the simplest form of my niche. You actually have the right idea and will see that in the beginning training.

I think some good advice would be to take a look around. Search WA profiles, posts/blogs, etc. as there is a wealth (no pun intended!) of information on little things that all add up. Like Keisha said, start by putting one foot in front of the other.

Anyone here will not lie to you-it is a DEFINITE process...but well worth it once you start the training sessions and just jump on in and build your first website. Take it from me-it's not as complex as it seems once you get the steps in the right direction :)

GOOD LUCK, don't give up and keep an open mind. I know you will have it all figured out once you get started up

Much success and the best of luck to you in your WA journey!!

Hi Matthew007,
Anytime we try something new there is always a learning curve. I'm not sure what has changed in your life but you should still be able to choose a niche your interested in for your website. You may just need to modify how you provide the content.

Something I have to remind myself of often is that life is a marathon not a sprint. Celebrate all wins, no matter what.

That is a lot of information and a lot to go through it. I will do my best to find my niche.
