OK, awesome. You now have your niche, in other words, the direction for your brand & business. That is great and don't worry about this not being "perfectly clear" at this point, as you move forward the pieces of the puzzle are going to come together.

Starting with a big piece today, your website. We are going to be taking our niche idea and turning it into a tangible business starting with your website.

Building a Website Ain't Scary, It's FUN!

Building a website sounds like a "scary" process, but fortunately you have access to the most advanced, yet simplistic website platform in the world here at Wealthy Affiliate. We pride ourselves as a technology company here at Wealthy Affiliate and we are the industry leaders in the website development space.

I am not going to toot our horn any longer, I would rather you experience the website builder and platform for itself. The first step today is going to be building your website, which will literally take you less than 30 seconds.

Click the SiteBuilder link

within the menu, and you are going to be ready to rock here (and complete the next task).

Below I have included a "Building Your Website in Under 30 Seconds" video walking you through the Website Platform (also knwn as SiteRubix) here at WA and showing you how quickly and efficiently you can build a website here at Wealthy Affiliate.

Task 1: Build Your Website

Your website is your foundation of your business. It is where all of your traffic is ultimately going to come to, where you are going to build brand and trust within the industry, and where you can promote products/services and generate $$$!

The SiteBuilder platform here at WA is the most simplistic, yet advanced in the industry. It is going to take less than 30 seconds to get a fully operational, profit ready Wordpress website up and running online.

There are 4 steps in the website build process, that I am going to walk you through here. To access the SiteBuilder and EVERYTHING related to your website, you will simply click the light blue "SiteRubix" button in the main menu.

Step 1: Choose the Kind of Website

There are really TWO options here, on a FREE website or on your OWN domain. Ideally, you will have your own domain, but that can come with time.

You can "register" your very own domains right within Wealthy Affiliate using our state of the art SiteDomains platform, which will allow you to instantly set-up your own domain for your own use.

If you are just starting out as a Starter member, you will be building a website on the .siterubix.com domain, which is a completely free website. You can build and host up to 2 FREE websites as a Starter.

As a Premium member, you can build and host up to 25 free websites and the ability to create 25 sites on your own domains (total 50 websites). That is more than adequate to drive many multi-million dollar businesses over time.

For the sake of this training, we are going to be choosing "On a free domain".

Do know that within the Premium membership, you can easily MOVE a free .siterubix.com button to a registered domain (one you may own) using the "Premium Only" MOVE feature. So by all means start off with a free website and then down the road you can move it to your own domain.

Step 2: Choose a Domain

Remember last lesson when I chose my "niche". In this step, I am going to be choosing a name for my website and placing it in the "domain name" field. This is because this will be my website URL and my brand moving forward.

As you can see below, I have added my brand "how to lose belly fat today" into the domain field.

When you type in your domain, it will let you know if it is available or not. In my case it was, but if your first choice is not available simply do another search until you find a domain name that works for you.

You cannot put spaces in your domain name, hence why my domain is "howtolosebellyfattoday".

Step 3: Choose a Website Name

The name of your website should match your domain, but it just needs to be grammatically correct (with proper spacing). You can see below my example of this:

Domain: basketballskillsanddrills.stierubix.com

Title: Basketball Skills and Drills

It is as simple as that. Don't overthink this step, your title will be the same as your domain.

Step 4: Choose a Design

The last step is choosing a "look" for your theme. As a Starter member you will have access to 12, hand picked quality designs.

As a Premium Member though you will have access to over 2,464 designs (as shown below) or your website and there are always new designs being added to this daily. These are referred to as "Themes".

Choose a design that you like.

Click on the design you like, and then you will be able to build your site.

SiteRubix, a Next Level Website and Hosting Platform.

You are going to notice that there are many other website features allocated within the SiteRubix menu. I don't want to eat up too much of your time here, but it is important that you understand the incredible benefits of the SiteRubix platform.

The powerful hosting you have access you here is unparalleled in the Managed Wordpress hosting industry. We truly specialize here in providing a secure, robust and FAST platform for you to run your website.

We know that your website IS your business, and it is important that you have the most advanced technology to keep your business operating at 100% at all times of the day.

The following are just some of the powerful features included within the SiteRubix platform here at WA.

  • SiteManager (Starter & Premium)
  • SiteContent (Starter & Premium)
  • SiteBuilder (Starter & Premium)
  • SiteDomains (Starter & Premium)

To make your sites secure and fast, we have some SiteRubix EXCLUSIVE technologies to make sure your websites are operating at lightening speeds, but also in a very secure way that protects you from hackers, spammers, and all forms of erroneous attacks.

There you have it, the low down of the SiteRubix platform and you have your website officially up and running online. Exciting stuff!

As we move forward within the training we are going to be building out your website content, and working to get indexed and ranked in Google, Bing & Yahoo (and do so for free).

Have questions about this lesson? Leave them below in the comments area and we will be more than happy to help you out. :)

In the video I just watched you said that you don't recommend that I do both the OEC training and the affiliate boot camp training one after the other. Is that just in the beginning? If I choose one now and get going with it, in the future can I do the other training too?

Yes. In the premium membership, you will have full access all the training.

Of course.

The reason that it's not recommended that you do both at the same time is not that it's "forbidden" or because you're new. It primarily has to do with the fact that building even one site is very time-consuming.

You will be writing dozens -- or even hundreds -- of articles to get your site off the ground. And unless you are an extremely prolific writer who has the time and ability to crank out 3000-10,000 words per day, it would be near impossible to build two sites at the same time successfully. Focus is critical.

Thus, instead, think of it as either/or. If you have a topic (niche) that you are truly passionate about, go with the OEC and build a site around that. On the other hand, if you already have a lot of online business experience, or are passionate about affiliate marketing, then do the Bootcamp.

I must warn you, however. The make-money-online niche (i.e. what is covered in the Bootcamp) is EXTREMELY competitive, so unless you really know your stuff and/or have a ton of experience, I would suggest sticking with the OEC and choosing another niche. You'll have a better chance of success. Then you can always go through the Bootcamp later, build a business site, and share your successes.

Hope this helps :-)

You can do Affiliate Bootcamp after OEC, but it is recommended that you do not do so right afterward for the simple fact that it will take months before you start earning consistent money from a niche website.

Affiliate Bootcamp is solely for the promotion of Wealthy Affiliate. It has nothing to do with creating an affiliate marketing website in a niche built around a hobby, interest or passion of yours. The tutorial below explains why you should do OEC first.

After going on Amazon and thinking a lot about what I am interested in and passionate about, I came up with three ideas:

1) Natural baby food and recipes (I am a stay at home mom and make my own! We are a vegan family :) )
2) School Supplies and Props for ESL teachers (since I am currently an ESL teacher)
3) Natural Skin Care for Women with Skin Issues due to Inflammation, Microbiome Disturbance, Hormonal Imbalances, Oxidative Damage, Blood Sugar Issues, and Nutritional Deficiencies (I have gone through this personally and have a wealth of knowledge in the subject)

Which do you feel would be a good niche to build a website on that would be lucrative?

All are great, but I fully agree with Craig (Labman). ESL has the greatest potential and is a huge opportunity.

I would agree that ESL would be a good choice, in part because you have an existing business in this niche and it allows you to create and/or promote digital products and courses in addition to physical products (and digital products have significantly higher margins than physical products).

thank you everyone for your advice! My current position is with ESL but eventually I would love to do (1) or (3). They are both big passions of mine :)

Millions if not billions of people all over the world would like to learn English as a second language.

my challenge is distinguishing myself from the many thousands who teach ESL and who also coach and who may have websites as well :) I am not sure what kind of niche to go with ESL. I could go with school supplies and props but I really love to teach and coach.

Supplies and props are great and you could even incorporate some teaching into it by explaining how the supplies enhance the teaching. How you approach it will have to be determined by you through research of the competition.

Hi Kimberly, my apologies for the delayed response. An example of a digital product or course can be video lessons you create and publish on a site like Udemy or Teachable for example. You can also be an affiliate for existing digital products like Lingoda or Rosetta Stone.

cool! I didn't even know I could do that and profit from that! I have made personally over 1,000 videos and just didn't know how to publish them. What is the benefit of being an affiliate for Lingoda or Rosetta Stone?

I was curious watching the video on how we are taxed when making commissions. For example I have my own ESL business and I am taxed at a certain rate. Having an online business, how does that affect us around tax time and when should we make our accountant aware? Do we receive any tax documentation?

If you make $600 or more, you need to file a form 1099. WA will not send anything since you build relationships with the affiliate products companies, so such companies should issue a Form 1099 to you if your earnings meet or exceed that threshold.
Anyway, at the end of the day, the affiliates are responsible to pay their taxes to the IRS.

got it! so going through an accountant would be the best way to go? Any commissions I make the affiliate program would just send me in the mail or I would need to file with the accountant? this is all new to me since I just started my first business this year :)

I had a question regarding the first video for understanding how to make money online regarding the process for affiliate marketing. I am aware of the Amazon Affiliate Program but I thought with these affiliate programs you have to have a certain amount of traffic going to your website, a certain number of subscribers, and a track record?

Some programs require certain stats, but not all of them. There's many that you could still join and promote products from that can earn income from your site. I created a training on affiliate marketing program types that might be of interest to check out. Hope it helps.

Hi Kyle,

I have a few questions.

1- I Can't seem to add my favorite post to the bottom footer

2- The About Me Page, and Privacy Policy Is on the right side of my page, how can I move it over to the right under my site name?

3- How do I get rid of the word sample page from my site?

4- On Word press the bottom shows main menu, (under appearance- menus) but my box shows primary menu, does that matter?

Thanks Joanne

Happy to help you out here:

1- I Can't seem to add my favorite post to the bottom footer

Not every theme will support this. So depending on the theme that you choose, you will want to do so accordingly.

2- The About Me Page, and Privacy Policy Is on the right side of my page, how can I move it over to the right under my site name?

You can manage this through custom menus. This is covered in the first level of the training.

3- How do I get rid of the word sample page from my site?

You can delete it, by going through the Pages. This is covered within the first lessons of the training as well so you will get there.

4- On Word press the bottom shows main menu, (under appearance- menus) but my box shows primary menu, does that matter?

Primary Menu is your top menu, that is the one that you will be able to adjust with your own custom menu that you will create.

Thank you so much Kyle for answering my questions.

I completed all the OEC training about a month ago, now I am going back to the videos one by one while I create my website.
Although, I'm eager to get my website up and running quickly, I know I need to take my time :)

I'm at Level 2, so I may have to go back to address the questions that I asked.

Be Well,

Joanne
