OK, awesome. You now have your niche, in other words, the direction for your brand & business. That is great and don't worry about this not being "perfectly clear" at this point, as you move forward the pieces of the puzzle are going to come together.

Starting with a big piece today, your website. We are going to be taking our niche idea and turning it into a tangible business starting with your website.

Building a Website Ain't Scary, It's FUN!

Building a website sounds like a "scary" process, but fortunately you have access to the most advanced, yet simplistic website platform in the world here at Wealthy Affiliate. We pride ourselves as a technology company here at Wealthy Affiliate and we are the industry leaders in the website development space.

I am not going to toot our horn any longer, I would rather you experience the website builder and platform for itself. The first step today is going to be building your website, which will literally take you less than 30 seconds.

Click the SiteBuilder link

within the menu, and you are going to be ready to rock here (and complete the next task).

Below I have included a "Building Your Website in Under 30 Seconds" video walking you through the Website Platform (also known as SiteRubix) here at WA and showing you how quickly and efficiently you can build a website here at Wealthy Affiliate.

Task 1: Build Your Website

Your website is your foundation of your business. It is where all of your traffic is ultimately going to come to, where you are going to build brand and trust within the industry, and where you can promote products/services and generate $$$!

The SiteBuilder platform here at WA is the most simplistic, yet advanced in the industry. It is going to take less than 30 seconds to get a fully operational, profit ready Wordpress website up and running online.

There are 4 steps in the website build process, that I am going to walk you through here. To access the SiteBuilder and EVERYTHING related to your website, you will simply click the light blue "SiteRubix" button in the main menu.

Step 1: Choose the Kind of Website

There are really TWO options here, on a FREE website or on your OWN domain. Ideally, you will have your own domain, but that can come with time.

You can "register" your very own domains right within Wealthy Affiliate using our state of the art SiteDomains platform, which will allow you to instantly set-up your own domain for your own use.

If you are just starting out as a Starter member, you will be building a website on the .siterubix.com domain, which is a completely free website. You can build and host your own FREE website as a Starter.

As a Premium member, you can build and host up to 10 websites (including websites on your own domain). That is more than adequate to drive many multi-million dollar businesses over time and our hosting platform is industry leading in terms of speed, security, and reliability...all critical factors to running a successful online business.

For the sake of this training, we are going to be choosing "On a free domain".

Do know that within the Premium membership, you can easily MOVE a free .siterubix.com button to a registered domain (one you own) using the "Premium Only" MOVE feature. So by all means start off with a free website and then down the road you can easily move it to your own domain.

Step 2: Choose a Domain

Remember last lesson when I chose my "niche". In this step, I am going to be choosing a name for my website and placing it in the "domain name" field. This is because this will be my website URL and my brand moving forward.

As you can see below, I have added my brand "how to lose belly fat today" into the domain field.

When you type in your domain, it will let you know if it is available or not. In my case it was, but if your first choice is not available simply do another search until you find a domain name that works for you.

You cannot put spaces in your domain name, hence why my domain is "howtolosebellyfattoday".

Step 3: Choose a Website Name

The name of your website should match your domain, but it just needs to be grammatically correct (with proper spacing). You can see below my example of this:

Domain: basketballskillsanddrills.stierubix.com

Title: Basketball Skills and Drills

It is as simple as that. Don't overthink this step, your title will be the same as your domain.

Step 4: Choose a Design

The last step is choosing a "look" for your theme. As a Starter member you will have access to ONE theme that has been hand picked for quality, speed, security, and overall theme design.

As a Premium Member though you will have access to over 4,134 designs (as shown below) or your website and there are always new designs being added to this daily. These are referred to as "Themes".

Choose a design that you like.

Click on the design you like, and then you will be able to build your site.

SiteRubix, a Next Level Website and Hosting Platform.

You are going to notice that there are many other website features allocated within the SiteRubix menu. I don't want to eat up too much of your time here, but it is important that you understand the incredible benefits of the SiteRubix platform.

So, I really passionate about photography and am still a novice but pretty good at few of the basics, then I love my kitchen knives and all things kitchen related, even though I dont own them, I love seeing innovation, quality, etc and movies and philosophy and life skills. And this is just the tip of the iceberg. I could spend and do spend hours on these areas...Are these really niches? Something people would really want to know more about?
bleumoon Premium
Yes..just figure out what you are more passionate about and then go for it.
TheCatherine Premium
My advice would be follow the money. Following your passion alone does not necessarily mean that there is profit in it. Photography is a great niche but a lot of people want to feel photographic equipment before they buy it. So a site recommending useful equipment might not generate sales of lens or cameras but you mat sell camera cases. How many people buy camera cases. Personal development is not a niche but concentrate on one aspect such as memory development There are a lot of high end products there to make money from
Raghunathan Premium
Thanks Catherine, I absolutely agree with you. And following passion in a lot of cases doesn't make money, that's why I want advise on niches. Ends up as hobbies or a diversion in a lot of cases.
But doesn't one need to experience the product or service before recommending them, for being authentic? Or at least believe in it? That's my conflict.
Hi, great advice @TheCatherine. Thank you

Bit confused and frustrated at the moment.
Task 1: Creating your "About Me" POST
is this a typo? A couple of lines down it talks about creating a "page" and talks about pages from then on until it gets to actually publishing and it says "choose post not page"
saying the reason is because all posts allow for comments.
I did as instructed and mine is a post but i just read some other people's comments saying it should be a page.
So what difference does it make? The page I loaded for my privacy policy as a page (as instructed) does allow for comments.

So i can't see how it matters which one you use when they both allow for comments?
Which is it, page or post?

Also, sometimes when i am following the instructions the screen comes up and doesn't look the same as on the instructions. Could this be because I have gone premium?

Also, trying to make some changes to my "about me" and when push edit, make the changes and push update and then look at the site the changes haven't happened. Any ideas?

Another thing - at one point I read on screen that my website only allowed for one type of menu (when i was trying to add another one). That's useless - can you change the website template ?

Considering throwing in the towel and paying my niece to build my a website but i wanted to stay with WA because of all the benefits and training and plus i've now paid for premium.

Hi Brenda, Not one of the pro's here and sometimes I cause more confusion but let me see if I can help. "About Me" can be either but is usually a Page. I think it was a typo saying choose post. The Page will be in your Menu, where posts are in the blog roll.
That should muddy the water nicely, LOL.

The screen looks different perhaps because of updates to the original sites being referenced. Usually the same links, buttons, instructions are just in a different format but the basic info is still valid.

I've found that sometimes I have to "Refresh" the screen before it shows changes. Chased that one for about a hour one night, no fun at all....

In your backoffice you should be able to customize and change templates, no problem.

Keep the towel, if I can build a site anyone can. Take it one step at a time, ask questions and get this experience. It is fantastic to build a site from scratch.

You are going to do fine!

thank you :) How do I refresh the page?
Hi Brenda,
I am sorry to hear about your frustration but I am glad you wrote about it. I am brand new as well (only a few hours) and I find myself frustrated as well.
I do not have the premium (like you do) as I wanted to test out my computer skills first so it must not be the upgrade is not the solution. I find the web site maker with WA (free accounts are not allowed to add links) is not very user friendly. It is lacking that intuitiveness that other programs have seemed to master. I have a friend who used wix and is delighted. I've spent an hour on WA's site and did manage to add some color to my page but I have not been able to personalize a side bar or write text on the page. I assume when I log out I will lose all I have done (but I get to keep the learning!). I too want the training so I am giving this venture 10 hours before I call it quits. Running into a roadblock this quickly makes me assume the issue is me. Hang in there a bit longer.
I am being recommended to Kyle and Carson and assume you should go there as well.
Until tomorrow night, I'm out for now (I have a long hard day on the docket for tomorrow with my high school students). Good luck to you.

Your Browser refresh is the little circle arrow thing. Should be in the top left corner in front of the url address.

it worked! thanks :)

Hey!I think I'm frustrated because I'm normally quite techy . At work I was the person who sorted simple IT issues and I'm the go to person in our family - at least I was until my daughters grew up! I asked one of them for help today and she is a mac snob and said i would be having problems because i wasn't using a mac and also wordpress was not the way to go (her opinion). Ironically my previous company was all Mac but i had heaps of PC experience before that (currently on a non Apple laptop trying to do this.) Also I used to look after the website in my previous job and it was wordpress.
Anyway, a nice man just answered a couple of my questions (above). Give yourself a few days i'm sure you (and I) will sort it out.

Your work will still be here, no worries on that! Can pick right up where you left off. As a Starter you have 6 days to really get into the course, Think of it like having first year students, you have tio start with the basics and build from there. Kyle's training will take you from 1 to a million, just follow along and complete the tasks as presented. Lot's of really knowledgeable people here who will help if needed, Best wishes!
Walking the Path of Peace, Sanders
Thank you for the response, SWhitley. Yes, you are correct, I am on a learning curve here. I appreciate you responding!
Thank you, Brenda. I plan to do just that.
SWhitley Premium
No problem, Barbara. Schools here in Iowa are shut down, you having classes or doing distance learning?
A little of both. Primarily distance learning but I do yearbook as well so I have two days this week at our physical address to get things handed out to seniors, along with cap and gowns for their virtual graduation.

Lots more to being a Teacher than just teaching. Stay safe and do give WA a good trial! I think you will do great!
Now, back to work!
LRoller Premium
In the upper left hand corner, you will see two arrow for last page and next page. Then there should be a round almost circle with an arrow. Click the icon and that will refresh your page.
Hang in there, your doing great!
I believe I completed steps 1-3 without a hitch. However, step 4 is being illusive. I have a title and tagline and that is all I have been able to manipulate. I know this is a free version, but it's not a version at all if it cannot post. Can you provide a sample to view? What do the terms: Container, Header, Primary Navigation, Sidebars, Footers, and Blog mean if I can't manipulate them?
Why can I not put a picture or some type of color onto the page either? Is there a video than can help me learn this?
michaelw777 Premium
You know what; I am just going to say here; try Kyle and Carson; they should be able to help. Just type Kyle into the search engine here on WA; and then go from there; and do the same for Carson too; you should try both of them. Try Kyle and Carson.

Hi ,

I'm only after joining your great company well for you today.

A friend of mine Catherine Ford s s me yesterday about you guys.

So I've gone the starter course and went through the different courses building your own website.

The problem I have is amount of spending a lot of money time energy and plugins to my WordPress membership website at the moment. So can I transfer this website domain name to your your system on on wealth affiliates can I link my website there or how does that work because I do not want to start build it all over again once I have another work and different things done in the back end of my WordPress alread.

Looking forward to your reply

Thanking you

When you are ready to go premium and switch from siterubix.com then all it takes is the push of a button and your site gets swapped over.

Misael712 Premium
The short answer to your question is 'yes'. You can transfer an already existing domain. However, in order to access the tools to be able to do it, along with the instructions, you need to get a premium membership. He goes over it in one of the lessons on premium.

Yea Misael712

that's great thanks for letting me know about that and its in the premium lessons too.

So far so good. The lessons are presented in simple language and so easy to understand. I can build my my own niche website now.
Before building my website, i need a niche. I am yet to decide on the niche to use for my first website. I am stock at which niche is the most appropriate and the acceptability during website building .
EmakAmelia Premium

Talking about niche, it is better to focus on one and differentiate yourself from your competitors. Think of it like being a big fish in a small pond.

A niche is a tightly defined portioned of a subcategory. For example, think of the health and beauty category. This is a very wide category. A beauty salon can offer a wide variety of services, including tanning, waxing, facials, massage, etc. If, for example, we take one of these subcategories - let's say facials - this could be our niche. However, we could narrow it down even further by focusing on facials for business women 30 years old and over. That is a tightly defined niche.

When we target a specific target audience/target market, that means we'll have less competitions and can focus more of our efforts in building our business better. We won't waste time and energy rambling about so many stuff that will confuse our readers that visit our site.

Find something that you are passionate about because you'll write a lot of contents about it.

Hope this info is helpful to you.
