At this stage of the course you have chosen your niche. Now we are going to show you how to take this niche and create your very own website... for FREE within Wealthy Affiliate :)

First we want to explain the difference between a Free website and a website that you OWN.

Your Own Website vs. A Free Website

Having your own domain name is ideal and gives you a huge competitive advantage when it comes to succeeding online. For example, if you owned your own domain it would look something like this...

www.yourwebsite.com

To host your own websites here, you have to be a Premium member.

When starting out it is not 100% necessary as we do provide TWO free websites to you as a Starter member. At Wealthy Affiliate we have one of the top Website Builders in the world called SiteRubix (you find it under the SiteRubix link in the main menu). This allows you to easily install both free websites and if you are a Premium member, websites on your own domain.

You can actually register domains here within Wealthy Affiliate as well through the SiteDomains platform as both a Starter or Premium member.

Today you are going to create a free website targeted to the niche that you have chosen in the previous lesson.

Choosing Your Domain Name...

When you create a free website today, you will choose a siterubix.com extension (subdomain). I suggest choosing something that is highly relevant to your niche.

For example, if your niche was "Macbook Air Cases", your domain name would be:

macbookaircases.siterubix.com

And your website name would be:

Macbook Air Cases

As a Free member here at Wealthy Affiliate, you get 2 free websites, so If you make a mistake initially, you can always choose another one in the future and you can delete ones that you don't want. In other words you can install/delete over and over again and have up to 2 websites hosted on our state of the art web hosting for absolutely nothing. They are free!

***As a Premium member of Wealthy Affiliate you to host up to 50 websites (25 own domains, 25 free .siterubix.com websites) on our state of the art "managed" wordpress hosting platform. This includes unlimited email accounts, free SSL, , premium monitoring and security, access to our SiteComments, SiteHealth, and SiteFeedback platforms and 24/7/366 website support.... meaning you can create an army of successful sites for one or many niches!

Once I build my website, I will probably affiliate with WA. I have been watching hours and hours of video's trying to convince to pay for the privilege to work. I just kept thinking "If you earn 6 figures doing this, why do you want my $47?" I think it would be awesome to help others who are going through the same thing to find something like we have found.

It's a business just like everything else. Just because Verizon & AT&T pull in over 6 figures a year, should everyone get free phone services?
A membership here is not a "right", it is a service just like everything else. With a premium membership you get 25 free websites, access to 5 10-level courses, a SSL security certificate for all of your websites, 24/7 tech support, community help at your fingertips, additional training modules that come out weekly, and more. If you were to try and get those things on your own in another way, as a beginner, I guarantee you would end up paying much more than that $47.
This is legitimate "training".. and in that since, you should really look at it as tuition of sorts. Where can you go to school for an internet marketing / affiliate marketing course that is going to cost you $47? Nowhere. And I guarantee the value that you get in the ability to have access to this community full of top performers in the marketing industry beats any class you could attend in one semester's time. Nothing in life is free. Think about what it is you're really asking :)

Hi , Just completed Lesson 7. My niche is going to be helping and consulting with owners of small and start-up beauty salons and spas. This has been my industry for over 20 years.
On completing 10 searches on Jaaxy.com I have discovered that some keyword sentences have come back as "small business marketing consultants" for example, even when I have used the word beauty, spa or salon in the search.
I take it I use that exact wording i.e. " small business marketing consultants "...in beauty .... as opposed to "small beauty business marketing consultants"?
Is this how it works, Lol?

Yes, you want to have the exact keyword in your post title and somewhere in your first paragraph or two. But your title should be catchy, as you will learn later. Here is a great training about keyword lists:
Reply

Yes. But you don't have to limit yourself to just the keyword, for example, you could write a post titled "Small Business Marketing Consultants for Beauty Salons". That way you still get your keyword in there but you work the content around to what you want to talk about.

Here's some good training in that vein:

Hi, I was doing IM about 8 years ago. I was affiliated with The Keyword Academy to name one. Back then it was also all about keyword research, SEO, etc... Then Google updated their algorithm and made all of that obsolete. True content became the King. Organic search and the quality of content was the way to get ranked. Lots and lots of sites where pushed waaaay down the search results and some even de-indexed. So, what changed to justify doing the same thing all over again today? What makes WA different? Don't get me wrong, I want to believe. But before sinking more time and money into this, I want to know what to expect the second time around :)

Hi, I would like to clarify a few things please. Does the Premium membership INCLUDE hosting for up to 50 websites or is hosting an extra cost? Can I use a custom design theme rather than one of your themes if I am a Premium member? Can I use an outside contactor to build/modify my website if I am a premium member?
Thanks Jackson
Reply
MarkPerkins Premium
Yes Yes Yes.
Only 25 with your domain and 25 with siterubix as I understand.

I have bought and installed a responsive theme for my sight so oit is mobile friendly.

No reason outside contractor could do it if you give them access and can afford it.

I got two ideas of niches but I still don't figure out how to make it a product to sell.
First I got bakery. I am really passionate about baking and I would like to make this a business. However I cannot sell bread abroad. So how can make my passion an online business?
On the other hand, I am going to work in an office where I do
planes of water installations. I wonder the same. How can I found a niche for this online?
Thank you for your contributions!

OK THAT LESSON WAS AWESOME. It really is step by step. The Webpage I'm currently working on (practice page) is coming along well. Had to adjust somethings in which I was unsure about but if you carefully look at it, it is a little common sense. Once again this is great.

please help, im feeling frustrated. When I go to do the key words on Jaxxy, It automatically keeps taking me to the page to upgrade which I don't want to do at this point. It is making me unable to save my key words I believe.. However it does say I have 0 key words left to find so have my key words been processed? There was no button for me to save my key words so its hard to know if it actually went through

It sounds like you ran out of the 30 free searches.

Use the keyword tool at WA. It works just fine.

The free version only allows a limited number of searches. Use the other one in the left hand side bar instead, you can save there. Unless you decide to subscribe to Jaaxy.

Hi Abby,
At the risk of asking a silly question, did you actually save your searches? I could be wrong, but I don't think Jaaxy does that automatically.
Don't panic! I used Jaaxy for the training, but I haven't been back to it since. The WA Keyword Tool (look at the sidebar on the left under "Tools") is awesome. I've found some really good ones with very low QSR's there. Just play around with it and you'll come up the ones you need. Good Luck!

Hello everyone,
I was just wondering if I can continue this at my own pace or should I be working on it until it's fully complete and ready to view? Because if someone clicks on it and see there is nothing there, or incomplete, they may not click it again in the future..right??

1. A website is never "complete"
2. It will take several weeks to several months before people start finding your site through search engines.

It all depends on you. Plus, if I were you, I wouldn't worry about people clicking because Google would definitely not show visitors a site without content.

I'm having terrible trouble with the theme that I chose. Should I be going out to buy a premium theme? The one I chose is not very friendly at all when it comes to customising.
I can't even add a header logo image (and I'm not new to WordPress).

Or is it just that I've selected a bad theme from the ones offered on WA?
Appreciate your comments.

If you don't like your theme then change it. If you go with a premium theme or not is really a personal choice. I would write down the things you wabt, don't want in a theme so you can pick a theme more to your liking.

Hi Andrea. I did the same. I am premium and have just been going through templates to find one that I like and can customise easily. It's a bit tedious, but worth it in the end!
Reply

Hi Craig,
Glad you are finding the themes you like. I went through something similar, but I had already added several pages of content, and it was kind of a mess in terms of images and paragraph placements. In the end for me it wasn't worth it to have to go back and make a thousand little adjustments. Customizing is one thing, but re-tooling everything was something else!

I understand this is just an exercise to walk me through the process of building a website and its content. If you have more than one website - I am curious as to how having an about me page and a photograph of you on each site comes across... Do all affiliate sites need to have an about me page and a photograph of you on them?
Reply
Matstabler Premium
In my opinion, its about trust.A photo and backstory adds some creedence to why they should trust your opinions and reviews and so to click on your links now and potentially in the future.

Well, I look at it like this, right now I'm building my first site on the transition to a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle. So my about me is about that part of my life. In the future I plan to build a site about removing the stigma associated with mental illness, that will have a very different about me. We are all related in that we are human, but we are all also so many other things! Try to look at it that way :)

Simple answer is YES.

The purpose of an affiliate site is to MAKE MONEY. Like you and I, we need to trust who we are buying from. So I feel it is important to have an about page, to install trust in your future customer.

Each website is unrelated to the next, so YES an about page on each site.

This keyword search thing is a little puzzling. Not sure if I am doing it right. Anyone else has any issues out there? I just have 8 more tasks to go with this course, but still feel a little uneasy with the keyword search thing. Just want to make sure I am doing it correctly.
Reply
Matstabler Premium
Hey there Courtney, You are not alone! Keywords are how you target your audience. It may help to think about the last time you searched for something. If I was looking to buy something but wanted opinions first, I would search something like "product x review" or "is product x any good" etc so if you were reviewing a product for your site, you could target "Product x review".

The keyword tool is there to help you find a low competition phrase to target in your pages so that when your page goes live, it could appear in search results, be clicked and hopefully lead to a sale.

Hope that helps.

Hi, I've just been a few minutes here, hello everybody, sorry for not having a profile yet :) I hope you're doing fine and that this system gives you what you are looking for. I see now that I have a 7 days limit, limit to what? I guess I need to be told somehow. For me the ideal system would be one in which I can start for free and generate money to be able pay for the help the gave me to do it. Months ago it wouldn't be a problem for me to spend whatever it needs but for my kind of situation I think there does not exist system that allows you to get results for free. If one could think really from the angle of the member that's the way they should do it and I'm sure it's possible. Nothing is impossible but on needs to want it first. But each time I end up with a fee to pay to get started and the passion ends up there. Please prove me wrong!

You get the first ten lessons for free along with complete access for one week. That's basically for you to be sure that this is something you would like to do and that it can be done here.

You can stay a free member but you will not be able to continue with the lessons (100's of them) and you also lose access to the community.

The first month is $19. For the training and platform that is offered here it's a steal. Granted $19 can be a lot of money at times.

But keep in mind that what you see here takes money to keep going. WA has expenses and a staff to pay. Bottom line is in addition to all that WA is it's also a business.

You want to start a business to make money and at some point your website will have to sell something and produce money to stay in business and so does WA.

If you can not get the $19. stay a free member and WA will continue to host your website free. We all have obstacles to overcome and it looks like you do too.

If you want to make money online badly enough just don't give up.

Good luck.

Hi Sabrina
You are right; there is nothing for free in life. We must pay either with our own time, which is costly, or currency.
Although we would like Affiliate Marketing to be an opportunity to overnight riches it is not.

Affiliate Marketing requires focus, time, dedication and discipline. ROI depends on knowledge level, of web building, marketing and the factors mentioned above.

Here, in WA we have the opportunity to learn through the lessons and the support from the community.

Wishing you the best

2. I then clicked on get started (green box on left) and it did nothing.
3. I scrolled down and it asked for a title but didn't target whee they wanted it typed in
4. Next, I'm here and can barely read the small image of the screen above....tried to go full page but it didn;t work out.

I assume you mean username for WA? What did it come out as then, as you say it jumped you into here? Check on your profile pic > Account Settings and it will show you your username and other things. It may be the name was already in use...

What Operating system and browser are you using, are you on Pc/Laptop/Tab/Mobile??? Some will have certain link types disabled.

With not being able to see/read. you increase the browser zoom, usually CTRL and + or - on Win or Command and + or - or Mac.

All modern browsers and desktops can do this, just set it to whatever suits your eyes, if the CTRL function above does not work them just google 'how to increase browser zoom' and add your browser to the search, so stick chrome, opera, safari or whatever on the end.

Also in the case for opting into a training session that has multiple parts to it - if you're not strating at the beginning becuase it came up as an offer where would you find the beginning of the training?

Hi, Jerome.

The easiest way to find recordings of the live trainings is to look to the left of any page on WA. Under the category: "Training," you'll see the image of a video camera, followed by the words: "Live Video Classes." That's a link to all the recordings.

Where would promoting WA fit into "finding a niche" ?
terrific product, and recurring commission. On the other side - being new to this website, not sure how much I could talk about it authoritatively without repeating how good it is.
And what material (if any), could I use from the site in my website/marketing without infringing on anyone's content ?

Interesting Question.
I wouldn't have chosen it as a niche right off without any internet marketing experience and I still haven't.

However, the more I get involved on WA the more I realise I may be able to help new affiliate marketers and am seriously looking at perusing a niche in WA.

I know it doesn't answer you question directly. I guess my question is how long have you been seeking an income from the internet?
Reply
Probably about 2-3 years. But I've always been looking for other streams of income for many years and suffered lots of failures.

I guess fundamentally I'm a big anti - believer in J-O-B. and have had recent experiences over the last 10 years of losing mega amounts of money that has led me to realise that the only way I can make things back, and provide for my family to give them a better life, is by creating streams of passive income. The challenge, as you know, is picking the tropical fish out of the shark's pool.

In the last 10 months, I've spent an aweful lot of money on a certain Affiliate marketing company, and got nothing back.

One thing that's true about what they say - and it is said by many successful people, you learn by your mistakes ....... so I think I have my Master's Degree in Hindesight now.....

Thanks for replying.......

My non financial goals are setting a clear vision on what my business is focused on accomplishing.

Once my vision is established use my centers of influence to create word of mouth both online and offline.

Creating relevant content that matters to my consumer base.

Try to squeeze in a vacation with the family.

Long term goals are to have a mostly passive system in place with low maintenance so I can focus on family, friends and my surrounding community.

I like those goals. I have to suggest going to Iowa a vacation suggestion. Or at least the eastern and central half - haven't been to the western part yet. It's a lot of fun!

Nonfinancial Goals: What I want to accomplish in...

The next 10 days: Find my first niche, build my first website, complete this course and have a better understanding of the fundamentals of having an online business instead of an offline business.

The next 30 days: Attract traffic to my website, build a client base and get higher on google search. Find other niches and build on my website.

The next 6 months: Be earning a small to moderate income from my online business and be able to base the current income from my online business to fund my travels with my girlfriend.

The next year: Be completely self sufficient in my online business, possibly have multiple online businesses which generate income for us both so we can have the freedom to live our dream of travelling and working anywhere in the world and proving to ourselves and many others its possible to that everyone can live the dream and its not just 1 or 2 people on a youtube video that can do it!

To go through the lessons in WA, a little at a time.

The next 30 days.
To contact my digital publisher and have him get ready for the second book. And to take a day off and goof off. Life isn't about hitting the checklist items -- it's about breathing in deeply and feeling satisfied.

The next 6 months.

When doing the SEO setup I did not see the "exclude pages from navigation" that is shown in the video but did have an "EWWW image optimizer" option. I suppose that just reflects some change in the system since the video was made. Should I do anything with the image optimization thing?
