At this stage of the course you have chosen your niche. Now we are going to show you how to take this niche and create your very own website... for FREE within Wealthy Affiliate :)

First we want to explain the difference between a Free website and a website that you OWN.

Your Own Website vs. A Free Website

Having your own domain name is ideal and gives you a huge competitive advantage when it comes to succeeding online. For example, if you owned your own domain it would look something like this...

www.yourwebsite.com

To host your own websites here, you have to be a Premium member.

When starting out it is not 100% necessary as we do provide TWO free websites to you as a Starter member. At Wealthy Affiliate we have one of the top Website Builders in the world called SiteRubix (you find it under the SiteRubix link in the main menu). This allows you to easily install both free websites and if you are a Premium member, websites on your own domain.

You can actually register domains here within Wealthy Affiliate as well through the SiteDomains platform as both a Starter or Premium member.

Today you are going to create a free website targeted to the niche that you have chosen in the previous lesson.

Choosing Your Domain Name...

When you create a free website today, you will choose a siterubix.com extension (subdomain). I suggest choosing something that is highly relevant to your niche.

For example, if your niche was "Macbook Air Cases", your domain name would be:

macbookaircases.siterubix.com

And your website name would be:

Macbook Air Cases

As a Free member here at Wealthy Affiliate, you get 2 free websites, so If you make a mistake initially, you can always choose another one in the future and you can delete ones that you don't want. In other words you can install/delete over and over again and have up to 2 websites hosted on our state of the art web hosting for absolutely nothing. They are free!

***As a Premium member of Wealthy Affiliate you to host up to 50 websites (25 own domains, 25 free .siterubix.com websites) on our state of the art "managed" wordpress hosting platform. This includes unlimited email accounts, free SSL, , premium monitoring and security, access to our SiteComments, SiteHealth, and SiteFeedback platforms and 24/7/366 website support.... meaning you can create an army of successful sites for one or many niches!

Can someone explain to me how money is made from this? I'm so lost. Do you have to currently be a business owner and this just helps with creating websites? Or can someone who is interested in becoming a business owner benefit? I have no tools in my tool box yet. Thank you!

There are several ways you can make money online. What you will primarily learn here at WA is how to make money through affiliate marketing; which is the selling of other people's products in exchange for a commission.

It's kind of like when you join the gym and invite your friend. If they sign up, they'll give you a month off or something; but instead you make money.
Reply
So the websites we create here are used to sell other peoples products? Or do we learn how to create adds for social media like fb etc?

What I can advice is that you be patient and go through the lessons. At the end of lesson 10 your answers will have all been answered.

I just did Lesson 1 of Getting Started and Boy am I PUMPED! I am glad I found this website. I get the feel that this thang is fo'REAL! Pardon the slang but that's how I feel? (cool glasses emoji). I also like the layout of the website and the way the left column looks. I wish every website that had products to sell or pieces of information would be as helpful and easy to navigate through! So big ups on that, y'all.

This is all so new it is a little over whelming but it sounds so good so far. I am only on lesson 2 as a starter. Niche, websites ect tends to make me scratch my head so to speak, however, I am going to keep going and hope to achieve success!! Any advice will always be so appreciated.

As with others, my menu tabs are not populating on my site. After watching Leo's vid I realized the theme chosen only supports two menus. Can I change to another theme without loosing what I have done? Is it better to continue with two menus? How can you tell when selecting a theme how many menu tabs it has built into it?

You can review a theme before you choose it. Look at the review to see if there are only two menus.

How do I link a product im promoting on my website to my audience if they come from different countries. For example I want to promote a specific product such as a helmet, but I have audience from the USA, Italy and India - how will they be directed to the product in their country when they want to make a purchase?

I would like to offer a suggestion to the people learning this new affiliate information.
We all learn by REPETITION. So it's not just enough to read through this info once. It would be wise to do it over and over a few times until you "GET IT". And then go on to the next section and having the previous section LEARNED in your mind, you will have a better base for the next item to learn.
A STABLE BASE IS HOW HOUSES AND BUILDINGS ARE BUILT. Your stable base here is knowledge and understanding.
We want to absorb this knowledge and by repetition you will develop a DEEPER understanding which will start to make it easier for you to grasp this entire course and become an expert.

Don't rush, take it slow but upbeat pace. It takes 3 months or more to build a skyscrapers foundation. but then the skyscraper goes up in 1/2 that time. almost over night.

At times we are told or made fun of because someone has to "read it over again". Yes some times we have to so we can grasp it and understand it. This is a scientific fact. The problem is that the "system" has brainwashed people to think that is silly to do. And then you go around the world and see very few experts at something earning LOTS of money for what they do. -- interesting isn't it.... ;) I hope this helps newbies here! cheers!

Here's a good trick that might help. Interview yourself. In other words, you become a reporter who is asking you questions about you. So you begin writing down 7-10 questions (as a reporter) that you would ask your guest (you).
This makes it fun and easy to come up with a "story" about you.
Hope this helps,
G.

On the Privacy Policy page, where we are to check off four boxes near the bottom, I noticed that my page did not have the lower two options shown in the video. Instead, my lower two options are "Disable on this page/post" and "Disable Google Analytics". Are these the same as the bottom two checkboxes or am I missing something?

i seem to be having a problem adding the photo to my about me page. its already in the system here i pull it up click on it,the insert image button lights up i click on it and the pic goes wherever it wants jacking up the text as well. in Kyle's video on this i remember him inserting his pic and the text just wrapping itself around the pic,no problem. I went back to watch the video again to see if i missed anything but it said this video couldn't be played due to server error or something along those lines. Anyway that is the second video just in course 1 that i haven't been able to view. thanks

try to reload the page for the video. for the pic, you can change the alignment to the right side. they usually fit better that way. You can also click and hold on to the pic to move it up or down a few spots.

I've known about targeting a specific niche for quite some time. I have tried my hand at internet marketing before but believe my selected interest has been way too broad. I will utilize this site to narrow down into a more specific niche and see how well I can do here.
Reply
TimTucker Premium
I wonder if it's not your interest that's too broad but your ideal target audience member. I can think of some things for which I would want to get a lot of info on a single site. I can also think of plenty of instances where I just want a very specific thing and don't want to get bogged down in an ocean of other stuff. So maybe the question is, what is my ideal person coming here to get in this situation (or get information about)? And let that dictate how broad or narrow you go. I don't know. I'm still figuring this out too.

Hi i got a question,
So in the previous lesson we went over the SEO and added the home description and home title. On this one we're discussing keywords. But from what i understood using the right keywords will get you ranked higher. But it says that it'll get your SEO ready keywords. If so, than why not search for keywords before doing the home description for the SEO?

Also i understand that i'll be making contents revolving around the keywords that i've found thats related to my niche. Is it one blog per keyword or a whole page per content or the whole of your website?

I hope i made sense. Please let me know.
Reply

As you move forward building content, each article you write will revolve around a specific keyword. Don't worry, trust in the system. Kyle is a great teacher and won't steer you wrong. :)
Reply
TheOldSilly Premium
You do want your main "focus" keyword to be in the post or page title, as well as in the url, if at all possible. I would suggest you use Yoast SEO for WordPress - it coaches you, as you compose your content, on exactly where and how many times to use your keywords to get the maximum ranking.
Reply
what do you mean specific key word?
Reply
ericcantu Premium
A specific keyword is one you've researched with Jaaxy or the keyword tool to be one that is low competition and high traffic. Once you find one you like you'll write content around that keyword. Follow the training and you'll understand it. Kyle explains it all step by step on exactly how to find them according to your niche.

Sorry I didn't get back to you right away. I've been dealing with other things here.

Honestly, you can do it however you wish, but the point is to get your pages and blog ranked as highly as possible. So you want to use as many key words as you can (without sounding stupid) on your blog or page as you create it. The spiders will crawl all over your text and find all the keywords. Then when people search in your niche, your website gets added to their search because of all those keywords. Not everyone will search using the same keywords. But how high your site ranks on searches depends on how well you placed keywords in the title and text. Does that help clarify it for you?

Hi Becka, that's fine.

Yes it was very clear for me. You're as helpfull as always. Thank you.

Reply

Hello Sean, after publishing did you go to Menus under The appearance tab? If not you need to go there, and you should see the three pages under recent pages. Tick all threeand click on add to menu. Over on the right you need to name your menu at the top, scroll down and tick what you want in settings. Go back to the top and save menu. Click your site name at the top left and a tab should drop down to visit site, click on that and you should see the changes in your site. If not refresh.

Something that helps me is to imagine a tag line a phrase that can promote both your product and your website. Let me give you an example. I'm promoting WA and it is centered around trial offers. What are those 'try before you buy' right? Well I searched for that keyword and I found an awesome domain name. The name both promotes my pages by using 'try before you buy' phrase. Hope that helps. I do it during the day when I have time and a little at night when I also have time not organised with a certain time just depends what you are like as a person day/night person with work. I would take some time and do research on the potential a sub-niche has. Too narrow and you may not be able to monetize the website, too broad and you can possibly, but cannot adequately cover the niche...

1. Everyday read my focus list

3. Focus on what is important to me (this step is what helped me determine my niche ;-) )
4. Do what I need to help me with step 3, to me that is keeping up to date with what is going on within my niche
5. Work on my businesses, which includes WA

I have a niche which I have narrowed down and I'm slowly fine tuning and hope will be ready to use soon. However the more I think on it I realise there is a bit more to it that may require collaboration. Does WA have contacts in the way of suppliers etc?

Not that I'm aware of.. Are you looking to set up a true e-commerce site where you will take orders and fulfill them as well?

Hi Billy, after thinking about it, yes it seems like its heading that way.

Hi Jason. It sounds like you are looking for suppliers of products instead of affiliate sources. If that is true then I would recommend using what I have successfully used for selling on eBay and my soon to be ecommerce website.

I use free wholesale suppliers that will also do drop shipping. It is very important to notice that I said "free" because there are a lot of fake wholesale and drop shipping companies online. If this is what you are looking for or have more questions, let me know.
Reply
I am interested in the drop sharing myself. I could use some pointers as well. I wasnt sure if i could do that here. If you have anything at all to help, i would really appreciate it thanx.
Reply
boomergp08 Premium
You can do drop shipping here because the type of website you build is totally up to you. But instead of an affiliate website you would have to make an ecommerce website.

So rather than using affiliate links to earn money you would create something like a store page and link to it from reviews and other relevant content elsewhere on your website.

I'm a little confused & overwhelmed by a couple of things

It seems a little counterintuitive to pick a niche & build a site PRIOR to key word research....? I thought I had a good niche idea, but I feel like I have to do KEYWORD research on my niche before choosing a domain and building the website.Because if I do the research after I pick a niche, what if the QSR & traffic don't work for my niche? I'd wind up with a domain & site that I can't use, right?

Anyway, my head is going in 10 different directions now b/c I also did a google search of the niche I was thinking of and while there is low competition, and low google results for the keywords, there were several REALLY GOOD blogs on the first page of results. a couple of the posts even had interviews w/ people who were tops in the industry. How does one compete with something like that!

If I choose a niche that meets criteria, I'm concerned about HOW to write good content - I understand keyword research's importance though. After doing keyword research & seeing what other articles are out there, is a beginner's content basically like how we did book reports in grammar school?

I know I'm probably jumping the gun with those concerns, & I should just take the plunge.....but I'm a huge analyst (bad habit!)

You actually have it right... The final objective is to get traffic to your website. With 2 billion plus buyers on the internet you have a pretty free reign on picking your niche.. But your niche will only win if you have the keywords to garner traffic.

For example you niche cannot be "fishing" because is too broad and your website will probably get zero traffic or just a few.

However, Let think about Alaska and one of the best thing fisherman from around the world will want to do is know where to go, and how to catch, and bring their fish home.

So your niche might be "Fishing in the great outdoor of Alaska"
(Just as an example because maybe you don't like fish)

Well, since you went to Alaska several times and know what needs to be done... Now you have meaning content for your website.

Now for the domain name,
http://www.greatalaskinfishing.com <-- available
http://www.letsgofishingalaska.com <-- available

You are right..

1. Niche (your passion, like to do, know alot about)
2. keywords / phrases
3. domain name
4. content
5. build your site
5. verify site with google
6. google analytics
7. add affiliate links (low content may impact you getting the approval to affiliate)

One website = one niche
With a premium account you can build 50 websites for $49 a month, such a deal

And more so, I believe that any idea you desire to sell there must be a keyword that will fit it with good QSR.

Slow down Jennifer, you are overthinking the process.

Picking a niche has to come before doing keyword research otherwise you will not have a grasp of what keywords to research.

Another thing to consider is that keyword research is an ongoing process that you will be doing every time you create new content on your website.

As for your domain you can make it whatever you want. It does not have to be a keyword because Google does not rank a website based on its domain name.

It is very much possible to compete with others in your niche who appear on Google page one. But in order to do so you need to be patient and write good content that is unique and offers value.

You can have the best keyword with a QSR of zero and still not make it on page one if your content isn't well written because you are ranked on your entire content and not just the keywords.

All of this knowledge will be better understood as you work your way through the training. Writing good content takes practice. The more you do it the better you will get at it.

Do not expect to be perfect or even close to perfect when starting out. If you try to be perfect in the beginning you will fail. Building a successful website takes a lot of time and persistent content writing.

Google will not even consider you for lasting high rankings until you have at least a dozen pages/posts on your website. You need to show Google that you are an authority in your niche before they take you seriously.

All of the above will eventually come to pass after a period of a couple of months. Remember, building a profitable online business takes time. Just follow Kyle's training step by step. Do not jump ahead. This training really workday!

Thanks all for the tips and encouragement. I know this stuff works because I just read an article on fb about a 20 something girl in the Philippines who has 2 blogs and makes 5000/mo selling outdoor accessories.

I'm having this same issue. I must admit I am a little annoyed that this (and some other things) is not straight forward. You'd think that clicking on "appearance" there would b an option to edit text!

depending on the theme you have. text color can be changed in those settings. It's why you should try playing around on a different free website. see what themes are out there and which ones you like to use.

No that is in your theme. You need to click on customize the theme and you will see the font colors come up in one of the sections. I did that too and had to mess around a bit to get it so I know you can do it too.

I chose a theme that has "Home" already built in it. I am thinking about mentioning myself and about my site in the "Home" tab and not to add an "About Me" tab. Will this have any negative impact on the people who are visiting my site ? Just don't want to add any sort of redundancy on my site.

The tabs are automatically ordered in alphabetical order. I want to have Privacy Policy as the last tab. Can it be done?
Reply
Barryw1 Premium
Yes it can be. You can place page or posts under any menu heading you have.

It's called a drop down menu. So when someone hovers on your home a menu with PP and About me drops down.

This is done in menu section of your site. Add the page/post and offset it slightly to the right.

Good luck.

i have a question about the "about me" page. in the eg. in the video, Kyle shew how he shed the excess weight and encouraged others they can do the same, perfectly relating to his niche.
However, in my case i chose drone as niche due to its future prospects i foresee. pls, is it necessary to have the "about me" page in this site? if so, what should be the content? come to my aid pls.

You may do what you please with your website.

My personal opinion is an about me page adds value to your site.

Just let people know a little bit about you. Don't over think it.

Utilize the 5 w's of journalism:
Who? (who are you? who is your audience?)
What? (What led you to choose that as you niche? What have you done in school or in the workforce that grew your interest in drones?)
Where? (Where are these drones? Where are you?)
When? (When did you get interested? When will drones take over the world (just kidding!))
Why? (Why are you interested in drones? Why are your readers interested in drones?)
Now ask yourself:
How is the information you provide going to help your readers?

Answer these questions in a paragraph. There's your About Me page.

Still got loads to go through and do but I know that I'm not too old and neither are you! Go back to basics I know you can do it!

hey joe - wouldn't you like to spend more time with your daughter -isn't this why you started looking into working online?
is this going to be another one of those schemes that didn't work?
how have you fallen behind - there is no schedule, you may not have devoted consistent time to your online business -but there is no schedule.
go back to where you remember and refresh yourself - some bits have changed.
yes you are tired - working two jobs is very hard, it doesn't leave much time for a third job - which is what this is.
but i you want to be able to give up all of your 9-5's(ish) then you need to put in the time here
if you give up on this opportunity then what - next one please
here you have what is really needed when working online - the community . this is what is missing from mot other schemes where you are given the information and told to get on with it.
here you can ask question, rant, show others that it works, so why leave this wonderful opportunity.
take it at your own pace and write down what you want to achieve, get pictures of the lifestyle you want in the future, pin them up around the house and see them everyday, do a little on your online business every day - even if it is only 10 minutes.
write every day - even if it is not for public viewing.
but remember that no-one is going to give you a long term working business that you don't need to work at, so take some time to reflect on why you joined and see if you really want to leave this opportunity
phil
ps why are you hosting with hostgator - you are paying for hosting here and you get a lot more features thrown in.
or use one of your free siterubix sites to use as the basis of your business

I know the feeling of frustration and the idea that I'm falling behind, BUT, I find that if I just follow the lessons here at WA and ask questions ABOUT the LESSONS, my frustration eventually is replaced with a feeling of accomplishment. I try not to let myself get sidetracked by too much information that is so freely offered here on all the discussion boards.
As for falling behind, I have to ask myself, behind what? I'm not competing with anyone or anything here at WA. I work at my own pace. I have a lot on my plate at home right now, so I haven't been able to do as much as I'd like, but my site is ranked, and I've made it to page 1 on google for 2 of my articles. I've only been here for 2 and a half months.
According to your profile, you've been at WA since 2012. Are you saying you've earned nothing? Learned nothing? Why not?

I know nothing about building a website. So when I'm looking at the website selection and clicking on demos & details, it all looks like a foreign language to me.
My question being, how do I go about choosing a website that will be suitable? When I don't even know what I'm looking at or sure of what I will need.
Feeling a little overwhelmed and stuck.

To my surprise each time I want to start a lesson a demand for payment has always appeared hence blocking beginning the lesson. I have asked questions in relation to this, but no response has come my way so far. Andrew am considering quitting because am making no headway! You have emphasized that anyone can join as a free member and remain so for as long as they want. Why am I being blocked yet I have even paid money as indicated above?. Is this another scam? If you go to the site rubix link on the left side of the page and then to support in the drop down menu, type in your problem. This is probably a click in the sytsem. If you go to the picture at the top right of the home page and then to "my account." You will see whether or not your payment has been accepted. Support will help you out they are really good. Hi there Stanley. Wealthy Affiliate is not a scam. I think I can see what has happened here. It looks like you have opened two accounts with Wealthy Affiliate. Everyone joins as a free member and then chooses whether to upgrade their membership to premium or not. The comment I just read was posted from a free account ( there's no premium membership button). Perhaps you're logging into the wrong account?
