To submit your first ad pick the city closest to you and just place a one or to sentence ad about some random item in your house like a paper stapler or used sunglasses.
Use a few words in the title and put a high price on it. Place your hometown in the location field. This is just a test ad and the high price will discourage anyone from replying.
DO NOT PLACE YOUR PHONE NUMBER OR EMAIL ADDRESS IN THE AD!
Craig allows this and will send any replies to your inbox. This protects your identity.

@ Peter Y, I would suggest running CCcleaner first before logging on to craigs and posting any ads. This will give you a clean slate. Then after you are done posting on craig go to the cookies in CCcleaner before running and you will see both of them. Save the post.craigslist.org and leave the other to be deleted. It is best to do all of this on a new user account this way you will not eliminate any cookies that assist you with any online banking or cc cards bill paying etc.
