What is Mind42.com?

Mind42.com is a simple, clean, and intuitive mind mapping website which allows you to create unlimited maps for your business or hobbies. The website supports collaboration, allowing multiple parties to view and edit mind maps. Additionally you may publish your completed mind maps to Mind42.com's Public Mind Map Catalog. Once published, anyone on the internet may view your mind maps. You are also given coding which you can use to embed into blogs and websites to create links or allow users to view the mind map directly within your blog posts.

Why Mind42.com over Bubbl.us?

Now you may ask me why I prefer Mind42.com to Bubbl.us. The simple answer is that Bubbl.us forces you to register for a premium account after only three mind maps. Mind42.com is completely FREE. No limits or catches to how creative you are allowed to be. There is no price put on your creativity. You can simply continue building mind maps to your heart's desire. That is the primary advantage Mind42.com has over Bubbl.us.

Getting Started with Mind42.com

I shall be walking you through the process of setting up and utilizing the Mind42.com interface. It has some pretty nifty features so please bear with me as we get rolling. First you will need to set up an account with Mind42.com. You can click on the name right there and it will take you straight to the home page. This is what you'll see:

Once on the home page you should see a large green button on the right side of the page that says, "Start mind mapping". You'll want to click there to get started with your account. Fill in your information and submit it, then check your email for their verification message.

As soon as you complete the verification process you are home free! Time to start with the real work. Let the creativity begin!

I am having to go through this Mind Mapping concept again. It is very detailed and the concept seems to be very useful and I like the way you presented it. Once I get it all down in my way of thinking then I am going to try and apply it. Thank you, this is very through training.

Yes most definitely personalize it for yourself. While the interface is simple enough, remembering to use it can be difficult at first. So the best way to leverage this tool is to figure out what works for you. I find that Mind42.com is a little bit easier to navigate than bubbl.us, which makes it easier for me to quickly add little ideas I think up while browsing and slowly build my map. This helps remind me of where I am headed with my websites and campaigns by keeping the big picture in focus even while looking at the micro-details that make up the big picture.

Hi there, this is really good. Thanks for taking the time to bring this to us in WA. I have used mind maps in my corporate life (a long time ago), like the approach, and can see a number of uses here in WA. I also like the fact it is free because this is another basic tenet of mine in IM work.
Can I please ask a question; how did you incorporate the actual mind map screens into your training write up? I was looking at doing this for another app I use but have no idea how to do this - hope you don't mind me asking?
Thanks and regards
Hudson

Hey Hudson, I am glad that you have found this tool helpful. That is its purpose. :)

To answer your question regarding the images I used, there are several different programs you could use. I run a windows pc which comes equipped with a little tool called the "Snipping Tool". You can find this in the "Accessories" folder of your programs and folders portion of the start menu. All Windows computers come equipped with the snipping tool so you should have it unless you are running a Mac, which has its own screen capture tool.

Using the snipping tool is as simple as opening it and then clicking and dragging to select the area you wish to 'snip' or 'capture' as an image. Once you release it will snip this portion of your screen and take you to a review page from which you may save it or capture a new snipping.

Hope that helps you! :)

WA is the best place for learning and sharing computer skills.

I just added a trouble shooting section to the WA Tutorial for the Snipping Tool. It shows how to activate the Snipping Tool in Vista. Please let me know if it works.

In Vista you can do a print screen to capture a screen shot. There should be a print screen button on your keyboard.
Here is a little more detail about taking a screen shot:

Thank You for Sharing This.
I liked bubbl.us but it only had the option to make three mind maps. Love this unlimiited feature.

You can add your personal pictures from your computer by uploading them to your Google + account with Google's PIcasa and then copying the url.

Current project: mind mapping the upcoming holiday.

Wow! Thanks! I'm going to have to study this several times. I like organizing my tasks and this seems like another tool that can do that. Since I have never really used mind mapping before there would be a learning curve. Thank you!

Yes, it works for me because I am an extremely visually oriented learner/thinker. So laying everything out helps me process my ideas much better.
