CREATING MENU/PAGES

Before I start talking about how to create page /menus let me remind you what you have already done before you start creating these.

By now, you must have already done the followings:

  1. You have got your domain name either free or purchased
  2. You have decided a theme free or paid
  3. You have built your site as per instructions given in WA training
  4. You have activated the suggested plug ins described in the training
  5. You have configured the minimum SEO settings as per guidance of training

Now your next task is to create pages in your site.

CREATING PAGES

Pages of your site contain the contents that you want to share with visitors to your site. So, this is an important issue. Take a pen and a copy and ask these questions to yourself:

  1. Have you decided your niche, specific and focused?
  2. Who are your target visitors in terms of age, psychology, occupation etc.?
  3. Which particular needs of your visitors, you want to/can solve?
  4. Which are the topics of contents you want to place in your pages to solve the problems of your visitors?

BEFORE YOU CREATE THE PAGES

  1. Focus on your niche, put yourself in the position of the visitors to your site and jot down those topics which you think are logically important and are of permanent nature.
  2. You may name those topics as the names of your pages. These pages would contain information which is of permanent nature (evergreen).
  3. I know that you will face problem in selecting those topics. You will have a temptation to include many topics.
  4. Control yourself and choose only few essential topics. Later on you may add new pages or create subpages within pages to further contain topics on other issues.
  5. You may also post your articles or blogs related to those topics in your blog page. You may even make addition/deletion in your pages later on.

FIRST THINGS FIRST

I hope by now, you have decided your most important pages. Jot down the titles of the pages you intend to create.

Now let us see the types of pages those are required in your site and find out their importance. Once you understand the types of pages, we shall start creating the pages:

  1. Front Page
  2. Home Page
  3. Blog Page
  4. About Me Page
  5. Contact Me Page
  6. Privacy Policy

Let us start understanding the pages starting with the last three types of pages. We shall understand the first three types later on.

Question - when clicking on 'publish', does this publish to the outside world? Can you explain that process?
