Management by objectives (MBO) was introduced by Peter Drucker in the late fifties. If you search “mbo online” you will find 7million entries ranging from what you are looking for to the MBO theater chain.
People have tried to improve on the Drucker model by such acronyms as SMART, but the power of the system is in its simplicity. MBO requires us to clearly define our goals and then break those goals into small steps that will lead to accomplishing the goal. We will refer to these steps as objectives.
Over the years, the one thing that has been added to the Drucker system of MBO is evaluation of results. Routine evaluation of the results of our efforts helps make sure our project is on track and allows making corrections when some part of a project is lagging behind.
