When you start adding Amazon's banner ads to your posts, you will find that when clicked, they will open Amazon in the same tab. Why is this a problem? Well, you've just sent your visitor away and closed your own website in the process.

Ideally you want to leave your website open, so when they are done looking at the goodies you sent them to at Amazon, they can come back to your site for more value. It's really easy to get lost while browsing the internet, especially in a market place like Amazon that sells just about everything. So your tab serves as a reminder of what they were doing before.

Now you're informed and ready to drop some Amazon banner ads on your site and the first question is where do I find them?

Here are the steps:

1. Browse to the Amazon Affiliate webpage and sign in.

----> https://affiliate-program.amazon.com/

2. Select 'Banner' under the 'Product Linking' menu.

I've seen a number of ways of supposedly doing this but none have worked, there is also the <1=_new method but this doesn't work either. it would be good to get a solution to this as it's not ideal having banners that just draw visitors away from our sites.

I did however notice in the code of a product I set up today the line: "&link_opens_in_new_window=true&", not sure if it may spark a few ideas, I've played with it but to no avail so far.

I have the same problem Andrew, did you manage to solve this?

I was never able to solve the issue, so I just removed amazon from my sidebar.
One comment I received was that the purpose of our websites is to make money, and if someone goes to Amazon through our website, maybe it's not such a bad thing, as they may purchase stuff!
Best of luck :-)

Can somebody help me with this? I understand everything up to step eight, but step nine lost me. My article pages have nothing like she is describing,. Where exactly do I paste the code?

I don't know what she's trying to do with Step 9 (Amazon links always opens in a new tab anyway). You just need to be able to copy the entire Amazon code, and paste it in the TEXT tab of your post (you have a Visual and a Text tab when you're editing your post). I think I just answered this to you in another thread, if you have more problems, you can PM me.

Michelle,
I did exactly what you said.
The thing is that I use an Amazon banner that changes and actually has 2 ads. Sometimes it shows ad number 1 and sometimes it shows ad number 2.
After I did exactly what you said the result was: ad number 1 opens in a new window while ad number 2 still opens in the same window.
Why is that? And how can I fix it?
Thanks a lot,
Daniel

Never tried an ad like that. Send me the code and I'll see if I can figure it out.
