Create an Auto Backup System for Your Photos

This system will automatically backup photos from your smartphone or tablet directly to your Google Plus account. A folder in your Google Plus photo albums will be created (Instant Uploads) where all of your photos will be stored. I can't tell you how important it is to have a system that automatically backs up your photos. Photos are snapshots in time that we do not want to lose.

Even though my iphone has photo stream backup, I like to have by photos backed up in two places. Google + gives me that extra security plus I have combined my digital camera photos, screen shots and scanned photos to my Google + account. Having all of my photo albums in one place makes it easier to organize and search my photos.

Visit the Apple app store or Google play for these apps and download to your smart phones and tablets.

Follow the setup procedure for these apps. When prompted enter your email address and username for your Google account.

There will be a message asking if you want your photos to be backed up - enter okay.

When I backed up my iPhone photos I had over a thousand photos to backup. This process did take a while. When my phone would automatically turn off so did the backup. In settings I had to adjust the time that my phone would turn off to never until the photos were backed up. After the photos were uploaded I set the shut off time back to it's normal setting.

To save money I selected to backup videos over Wi-Fi only.

The photos that are in queue will have a circle with an check mark in it. You can view which photos have been backed up in your Google + Instant Upload folder.

Nice tutorial Sharon! I need to check this out. I haven't really started using Google+ because i couldn't figure out how it fits in with Facebook, Twitter, etc. I use SugarSync on my phone currently to back up pictures I take. But I'm going to try switching that over to use the Google+ app, and then organize all my photos as you've described here. Thank you!

Well now, this is a bit embarrassing.... I already had Google+ installed on my phone, and just had to enable auto-backup for photos & videos. LOL! Backing up now, then I'll go and see how I can organize them online. Thanks again for the "kick in the rear" I needed Sharon!

Glad that you found this useful. Google has so many awesome tools available. When I backed up my phone it took several hours because I had so many of them. When my phone would shut off the process stopped so I had to increase my settings to never turn off until all of the photos were backed up.
