Hello and welcome to this SEO tutorial!

In this tutorial, you will find the necessary steps for making sure your content is Search Engine Optimized and ready to conquer Google Page 1!

Good luck and please, let me know if you have any further questions.

Let's start!

1. Find a Good Keyword - Use Jaaxy the Amazing Keyword Tool

A right keyword is what you'll start with when doing your SEO.

a)
If you go to Jaaxy, try to find one keyword or keyword phrase that has:

- over 50 searches and QSR under 100 ('low hanging fruit' keywords)

*note: if you are writing a product review, and the product has just been launched, the search volume might be significantly lower than 50. That's understandable because the search will go higher as the product is promoted and advertised after the launch.

b)
You need only ONE keyword or keyword phrase.

Your post will rank for more than just this one keyword anyway, so you need to get just the one and concentrate on it.

Put your keyword in:

1. The title of your post

2. H1 tag title in the post's first paragraph

3. In the first paragraph

4. In the last paragraph

5. If it feels natural in the content, you can put it more often

2. Write Good and Long Post

To rank high and to rank fast in Google, first of all, you need to write good content.

There is no way around it.

What does that mean?

a)
It means, writing a helpful and long post. Yes, you need to do both of those things.

Posts of 500 words simply, do not cut it. You are just wasting your time.

Add another 500, and you might have something actually to use the SEO rules on.

Add another 500, and you'll be in with a great chance.

b)
Write an exciting Headline, or at the very least, not a boring one. See what your competition is doing and try to do the same or better.

c)
Write short paragraphs

d)
Write short sentences

e)
Bold all the essential words/parts

f)
Use H1 tag for your title, H2, and H3 for other titles or important parts of the post

3. Use Relevant Images

Images are essential for good user experience and also for getting your point across.

a)
Make sure your images are relevant to what you are writing about

b)
Images need to be optimized. You can use EWWW plug-in to do that. This plug-in is included already on the new sites here at WA.

c)
ALT Description - don't miss this one!

ALT Description is for the visually impaired people, to include a detailed description of what is on the picture.

This is not a place for your keyword (as I have seen it explained on quite a few blogs).

Doing the ALT description you are not just aiding your SEO, but also being a decent human being helping out those who cannot see the picture you've uploaded on your blog.

4. Write a Good META Description

META description is the bit of text that appears underneath your title in the Google search.

a)
META is 160 words

b)
It needs to communicate to your potential reader what is your post about

c)
I write one or two important words in capital letters (this is not a rule, it's just something I do if it's appropriate for the post)

Can you go over affiliate links in comments please. I have never heard of doing that in my website. Also since Google Analytics has changed. Can you explain how to crawl smart phones. I have never done that for smart phones and maybe that is where I 'm making mistakes.

Hi, I'm not sure what you need explaining in regard to affiliate links? Can you be more specific, please?
If you go to Google Search Console you can click on the option to see if your site is mobile friendly. Jay (Magistudios) has training on how to use Google Search Console: I suggest you go through this training and learn how to use this amazing Google tool.

Thank you for answering my question. That webinar helped clear up a lot of the grey area I was dealing with. I have been through all the training but there are times when I need to refresh again. I also deal with short term memory loss which makes things a bit more challenging at times.

I usually link to 3-5 internal posts, and to at least 2 authority websites (Wikipedia and Youtube for example).

Not sure which soc media platform you are using, how, and when you started.
Also, if you've started recently, I would only concentrate on one (max. two) social media platforms, learn how to really use them, and only then move on to using others. Otherwise, I find, it's just one big confusion.
Also, different niches work better on different platforms.
Which niche are you in? What soc med platforms are you using?

Thank you Alenka! Very helpful tutorial. I will try to use more low hanging fruit keywords.

I have a question about titling. I never used H1 headings for my article because I find them too big. I have always used H3 and Some of them have been indexed on page one position 5,6 and 7. So my question is does heading affect the position. If I go back and changed my headings will it improve my chances of being on position 1.

Thank you!

Regards

Pam, hi

I know what you mean about H1 tags being big.

On the other hand, maybe your readers will appreciate the bold and easy to read title (at least that is what I say to myself when I think about how huge it looks on the screen).

Now, onto the practical explanation:

H tags are important indicators to SERPS what is your content about.
If you give your title an H1 tag, you are sending a strong signal to the crawling bots that this is the part they need to be paying attention to.

This is how they can pick your answers (posts) to show, to searches in SERPS, and as a consequence can rank your post faster and higher.

H tags are graded in different numbers (sizes) and each has its own weight.

If I were you, I would make all the post titles H1 tags.

Hope this is helpful, let me know if you have any more questions, I'd be glad to help :)

Ok got it! Thanks for the explanation very easy to follow as I have no experience in this whole online business thing. So just to clarify should I also change all my H3 to H1 or just the title of the post? I have many titles following the main titles in every post that’s why I ask.
Reply
AlenkaV Premium
I'd stick with H1 just for the title.

I use H2 for the paragraph titles, and H3 if I need to highlight a part of the post.

:) :)
