SEO Friendly Content (1)

Someone asked me, “what is SEO friendly content.” I think now is the time to tell about my style of creating SEO friendly content. In case you are wondering, SEO stands for search engine optimization or “how the blazes do I rank well?”

SEO friendly content is content that is designed in such a way that search engines like it. It takes some practice to learn how to do this. However, if a dummy like me can figure it out then you can too.

My style is to keep it simple. I generally don’t follow many of the “rules” for writing content. After all, I was raised in the 60s. I march to a different drum.

Please keep in mind that no amount of expertise or tricks of the trade will guarantee top 10 results all the time. However, if you write several articles that rank well then readers will generally navigate their way to pages that don't rank as well if your keyword has some fierce competition. Not all of my pages rank in the top 10 due to the competition.

My style isn’t the only way of writing quality content. What I’m writing about here is just my way of doing things that gets me the results I want.

Hello Mike:

Your Teaching on the SEO friendly content was very well received. I learned a lot more about SEO Friendly websites.

The only thing I had a real question about is short posts. I was always told good content should be between 1000 too 2500. Some of these WA members have a baby if it is not long enough and also frown about video embedding.

I think if you keep it short and too the point people last longer and you can get your posts out right away.

My SEO I have chosen that works very similar to Yoast is called Squirrly SEO and also gives me a analytics report to see where I am at.

Thanks again.

I can't get my blog to rank at all but luckily thanks to Kyle I started putting my posts into Google Plus. He recommended this to help rankings to my blog which they didn't, but it helped more because the Google Plus posts themselves ranked. Now all my Google Plus posts have first page rankings so I just put my website address on the bottom of the plus post.

This is a great tutorial GrampaMike.

It took me back to the days when Amazon only sold and mailed books to people. And AOL was only known as "America Online."

I remember the meta tags and how I would take them from a site (by viewing source, and coping) and paste them in my HTML editor to make cool webpages.

This tutorial was very informative.

I never knew that the alt tags did so much. So that explains all those alt directories i use to see.

Thanks for the memories and the knowledge.

Good stuff to know grampamike! I did bookmark it for future use. My website isn't quite done yet; it is being build by one of our members who does this professionally! Once it is ready it will get serious for me. Due to disadvantages I have it is not for me to learn things ahead of the fact and I wait until it "hits" me full force. The same as you, I was raised in the 50's and a bit in the 60's and I do things different then most people today. Especially, I don't listen much to their knowledge of LIFE. They wouldn't know what real life is all about if it bit them. No pun intended but that is how I feel because I have absolutely very, very little in common with most people today. All I am trying to do is to supplement my hardly existing pension, the pension the politicians stole from us over the years. We paid into it for decades (almost 50) and they lived it up! So, let's forget about that and look at what we can do to remedy this misfortune (WA). Good luck to you and thanks again. Mike1942

Thank you Grampamike. I have a good direction for my content. Question - when I install the Yoast does it override the All-in-one SEO? I'm asking this because when I installed the Yoast SEO I had a message like this :- 'The plugin All-in-one-SEO has been detected. Do you want to import it's settings?' :)))
Reply
grampamike Premium
Good morning Danielle. Just checked my inbox and found your question.

Both all-in-one and Yoast are SEO plug ins. I don't recommend running the two at the same time. I had another member try to run both and they conflict.

Just deactivate the all-in-one. Don't remove the all-in-one files from your plug in list. Use Yoast for a while to see if you like it. If not then simply remove Yoast and re-activate all-in-one.

I did not need to import any settings. I just used Yoast right out of the box.

Hi Danielle. Without Yoast I would have never been able to write this training.

Yoast took my content writing to a whole new level. It filled in the gaps about writing effective content.

Yoast has been one of the best mentors I have ever had.

Hi Susan. Thank your for your nice comment.

Yes, you can add plug ins like Yoast to your WordPress plug ins. Plug ins are added to a site to improve functionality or add some feature that is missing.

For example, if you wanted to include information in an article which is best displayed in columns then there are plug ins which will add a column feature.

I'm have great success using the Yoast plug in. Remembering all the SEO details when drafting an article is tricky for me. The Yoast SEO plug in has been a life saver.

Yoast was recommended to me by a WA ambassador who has been around on WA since June 2014. I was uncomfortable with the All-in-One SEO plug in so I asked a question on WA to see if there was a plug in where I could get better control over meta tags. That's when she recommended Yoast. Yoast turned out to be much more than meta tag control. It turned out to be an excellent editing tool for adjusting the SEO elements of an article I write.

Yoast is the key plug in which allows me to draft articles that have a better shot at ranking on the first page in Google searches. I'm having great results.

GrampaMike,
You mentioned using Verdana to justify your posts- could you explain more?
Thanks,
Sami
Reply
grampamike Premium
Hi Sami, Verdana is a font and has nothing to do with justifying.

Some computers don't have a complete database of all the fonts that are available. So to make sure they font appears properly then I use what is called a universal font. Verdana, New Roman Times, Ariel, are examples of universal fonts. Here is a good article on safe fonts;
http://web.mit.edu/jmorzins/www/fonts.html

Justifying means to line up the text of your article evenly from left to right margins. There is a button in your editor for doing this.

Hope that helps.

Ah shucks ma'am, it ain't nothin'.

You just proved my point. A post on your website can be long yet when broken down into entertaining and informative sections then readers will actually read the article.

Section headers in a long article makes a difference. Throw in a few cats or dogs and you can capture a reader's imagination. Don't use kangaroos though. They are a touchy crowd. Just kidding.

Take care.

Reply
grampamike Premium
Hi Gary. Yoast is a plug in that you add to your website plug ins.

1-Log in to your website dashboard.

2-In the website dashboard, look on the left for the plug in link.

3-Hover your mouse over the plug in link.

4-You will see a drop down menu.

5-Look for the "add new" link and click on that.

6-This takes you to the WordPress catalog of plug ins.

7-Just input "Yoast SEO" into the search box then install the plug in.

8-Activate the plug in and review the settings to see if there is something you need to configure.

Hope that helps.

Nicely done training. I'm a 60s Boomer/Hippie guy like you so I "grok" your thinking and writing style, lol. I do almost all of the things you recommend, but the linking images (in addition to having alt tags for them) was new to me, and it makes a lot of sense, thanks. I also like your simplistic yet elegant "formula" for writing a natural sounding article.

My nice site is less than a year old, so not as "trusted" as yours, but it is already getting pages and articles that show up front and center on Google searches - and I credit that to having been schooled well on SEO practices. This training adds even more polish, and is much appreciated.

Hi Grampamike, thanks for such great training.

By the way, when you mentioned "short descriptions which are less than 300 words. Normally, about 150 words" at lesson 2, is it referring to the description at the All-in-One SEO description of the post?
Reply
grampamike Premium
I'm really happy you enjoyed the tutorial.

What I was referring to in lesson 2 was the text in the article I'm writing. It has nothing to do with meta tags.

I'm running a sweepstakes website and my descriptions are less than 150 words. I started looking up those keywords and found them ranking in the top 5 in Google searches. So word count may be a relative thing.

Yoast really scolds me for writing less than the minimum 300 words though.
