So, I figured I would put up a good training video that shows people how to write a great blog comment. From time to time you might notice that some comments you have received might not really be of much value. Sure, they tell you, you have done a good job yada yada yada.

But, you want to actually leave people blog comments they can reply to. This helps with user engagement on their website so much more.

Also, I have done a training what happens if you get a useless comment. It might be a little unconventional but you can modify them. Please see this training that I did on this common problem too:

Thank you!

Sometimes Site Comments drive me nuts.

For example recently I got the following comment:

"...As a beginner blogger I love to find great information about how can I improve my blog content and get more traffic to my website. Writing great value content + backlinks = traffic..."

Now look at my screenshot of what I wrote RIGHT AT THE TOP OF MY POST...

"In this post you will NOT find cliche answers like:

'Great content + Backlinks = Higher Ranking'"

Seriously people, do you think we are stupid?

Some people actually PAY for getting comments at Site Comments platform and at least spend some time reading through the post.

I mean I am sure I am not perfect myself but at least I am trying my best to provide a great comment, the one that I would've loved to see if it were for me.

Kindly educate the person who left that comment. When I first started I was frustrated about people not writing proper comments, but realized there are a lot of beginners out there and needs to be educated.

Honestly, I would just give them the benefit of the doubt and change the comment to something that adds some value to your website. There are a lot of newbies and at one time I was one too.

But, I know it’s very frustrating. It’s kind of gotten to the point where I almost have to create a number of user-generated comments because there are usually 2-3 comments that are practically useless.

I even have a VPN where I could just make my own comments behind a proxy which I could completely do all the comments on my own. But, honestly, I try to take the good with the bad.

I agree people that are newer might not know the logistics of what they are really doing when they leave a blog comment.

I do. I understand that they might be new and I take the time to give them proper feedback of why I disapproved my comment. BUT it's also disrespectful to leave a comment that CLEARLY shows that they haven't read the post.

I am pretty laid back and understanding, but this time I got a bit annoyed.

I understand that they clearly did not read your post, I've had those comments too. Here's a good post about how to handle this:

I know, that's what I sometimes do - but man, I can't be always changing comments especially when I am paying for them! If I am paying for them, this means that I don't have the time to edit the comments over and over again.

I do however have a few feedback paragraphs written out that I can copy+paste to let them know the reason why I disapproved their comments, so that they can work on it.

I agree it's an insult. Here is 3 seconds of my time for your post. Geez thanks!

How do you PM guys? Most of the commenters use a separate name for WA and I can't find them then.

True... use this comment thread instead of buying comments: Then you'll have the WA users you can see.

As for the other ones, just reject I guess if you really don't want the comments.

I am paying now b/c I don't have the time or energy to comment (because when I do, I try to leave high-quality ones). That's why I am not using the thread too. Oh well, I guess I will just hope that most of the comments are good ones or add a question or something myself lol.

Oh I see, you already knew about the comment thread. That's cool then. Yeah, it's up to you, you can always reject so that member knows that wasn't cool to do, since it's so obvious that person hasn't read your post.

Of course I knew, I've been here for quite a while ;)

Frankly, I don't like disapproving comments, adding an engaging question is fine by me, especially if the person seems to be genuinely willing to help.

But even if I do, I try to provide a feedback clearly stating my reason behind the disapproval so that they can be better :)

Sorry about that Zarina, didn't realize how long you've been here. :) (been answering so many newbie questions.)

You're on the right track then! ;)

Hi Garen, If we were not in WA, then our websites would not be getting comments. So we should be very grateful for this service. So I like you idea of going back to make a second comment. I provides other visitors to the site the appearance of regular visitors. On time comments give the appearance of someone stumbled upon your site. But a return comment shows that you read the site owners reply and thanked them or show that it helped you. Great video. Thanks Dave

Actually, there are groups on Facebook which do blog commenting exchanges. Typically, I don’t use them all that often. It’s just much easier at Wealthy Affiliate does get the job done.

Ok, I have never used Facebook. Thanks for that info. Dave

Well stated Garen ... and, Thank YOU for the heads up on "Read Out Loud" for Windows. Will definitely be giving that a try!

Not sure if WIndows even has a read out loud feature installed on most systems. It's been about 9 years since I used a Windows computer.

Yeah, I certainly wouldn't spend any money on something that can be done for free. Might try this extension if you're using Google Chrome: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/read-aloud-a-text-to-spee/

Not using Chrome. I prefer Firefox ... Thanks Garen, will definitely be searching for this goodie. This type of software used to be VERY pricy.

Yeah, I remember back in the day I actually paid money for it LOL. I think it was like dragon speech or something. It was over $100 dollars.

Hello Garen,This was such a great idea because i have been really confused as to how comments should be so engaging. And which comments to keep or rewrite. The idea of starting a discussion is the basis for engagement. What do you do with a comment that is not appropriate? Is it ok on the other side with our own sites to completely delete a comment?
This was a brillant idea and so useful.

I always try to leave something of value for peoples sites I leave a comment on. Even if I got to "play dumb" seem clueless, etc.

I did do a training awhile ago on what I do with useless comments at: Basically, I just change them to something of value. Have gotten a lot of spammy ones over the years, so rather than nothing I just change it to something engaging.

Honestly, I say it's fair to do that because there is a chance that if they are not going to spend even 1 minute on a decent comment they probably won't even return to my site in the first place.

This is great training, hopefully, more people will read this!!

I find that in the comment give and take thread, the quality of comments I get, overall is pretty poor. I usually get about 3 sentences and very little engagement. I usually end up editing the comment. At least with SiteComments, there is some kind of moderation. I have learned that if I can't add something to the post by commenting, I pass on it. If it's a subject that I would not be searching for, I don't leave a comment. I think it's very tempting for people to just try to plow through comments and try to get done with as many as possible and not really take time to do it right. Is every comment I leave perfect? Absolutely not. At times I have started writing a comment, and then I realize I really don't have much to say, and I will scrap it.

Anyway, sorry for the rant, but I think quality comments are important and I hope people will really take this to heart.

Thanks for sharing this!

Hopefully, more people read this because it seems to be a pretty big problem with Wealthy Affiliate and getting comments on our websites. There is a good chance that 75% of the comments I get really are not that great.

Wouldn't mind Kyle just putting this video in his training because I think it's something that needs to be embedded in peoples head.

I know what you mean. Leaving lots of comments so they can get some on their site isn't the best idea. Instead, I would rather leave 2-3 really good comments and have very high-quality comments on my site. I think quality vs quantity is always a smarter option.

Good info Garen. I think I would add to leave more than a sentence or two, or a question. I have had a few comments/questions that were one liners. It is easy enough to pick out a few things in the blog post that were interesting, or that you didn't know about prior to reading. Show that you at least read the article, and you are interested in it's content. Tom

Yeah, a couple of sentences really isn't enough. It just really shows that they care for about 15 seconds in order to get a comment out of you. Usually, if someone does that I pretty much leave the same kind of comment for them. Like, "geez this really helped me now I can spread the news."

I really believe the fewer people think, me, me, me, me, the better off they will be. I guess you get out of it what you put into it. Am I right? Running an online business does actually take a lot of careful planning and hard work. There isn't any magic button you can just push and the money starts flowing in.
