Write two or three shorter articles
A friend of mine read a lot about the importance of 1.000+ word-long posts. So he wanted to have only 1.000+ word posts.
I hope you agree this is one very ambitious plan. Unfortunately, many beginners learn the hard way that writing a long post isn’t easy.
Well, unless you plan your posts wisely and get into the habit of regular writing. Turn it the other way around and you’ll figure out writing a long post may be easy.
Imagine practicing aikido with your procrastination. It is a powerful force and your task is to learn to use its strengths against it.
I suggested to my friend to beat procrastination – caused by mental blockade – by delving into writing without delays. You can do it too!
Start by writing anything that comes to your mind. Get on writing a small piece of your imagined loooong post. Focus on that particular piece and come up with the best version of it.
Don’t worry about the headline, subheadings, introduction, body and conclusion. In my experience, following such suggestions actually causes more strain when writing.
Write one short article. For example, you can exploit the WA platform to write a post about a topic you’re knowledgeable.
Get some feedback from WA members. Incorporate that feedback into an extended version of your initial post.
Write another post focusing on another topic that fits nicely into your first post. Grab some feedback.
Ask readers what they would like to read in more detail. Expand on the second post.
Now merge these two expanded and rewritten versions. DO NOT publish the same versions. Remember the famous quote, if you steal from one author, it's plagiarism. If you steal from many, it's research.
I know the key to publishing good content for Google is consistency.
There is no point in publishing a post or page every day for 2 weeks, then nothing for 5 or 6 days, it needs to be regular.
Personally I post one page or post every 4 days of content I feel is of good value. I know I can keep this momentum and I know I can have the passion to write in in that time frame.
A lot of people hit blocks because they are rushing and running out of ideas... a little time in the middle gives you time for thought!
Great training, thanks :)
