What is the Purpose of the WA Keyword Tool?

As you progress through your training here at WA, you will be taught by Kyle what are keywords and how Google uses them in their algorithm to find articles relevant to keywords that are entered by the user and determine which articles get ranked higher.

One of the many benefits of belonging to Wealthy Affiliate is that we have a built-in tool that allows us to find keyword phrases to use in our articles. It is called the WA Keyword Tool. The purpose is to help you determine best possible keyword phrases to use that are relevant for your article.

Hi, Steph.

I just found this training today (Mar 20, 2017) and I <3 it SO much! It may well be the most complete, easy to understand training I've ever seen. (I clicked the "like" button!")

I do have one request: On page 8 it still shows what used to appear when you clicked "View Result" in the Competition column (the last page of Google search results.) Would you consider updating with an image of what appears now? (see attached image)

I'd love to refer new Premium members to this, but I think the old image would confuse them.

Sharon

Ps. I had to laugh when I saw "reasons to love black cats" is still <10 searches and <10 traffic two years after you made this training. Poor little black kitties.

This is awesome training Steph. Thank you! I always seem to make my keyword research way to difficult and have found that what I have done in the past is not working so well for me in terms of ranking and getting traffic.

I am on a mission to do things differently with a brand new website and this couldn't have come at a better time.

I am one of those who would never even look into a keyword that had less than 10 for the traffic results. Your advice about knowing my niche & audience, using my gut instinct really hit a nerve with me.

My only question would be:
How do we determine or know what our audience wants if we are not getting an audience?

It is very difficult to determinate who your audience is when your only audience is either from friends and family you ask to visit your site or from our awesome family of members here at Wealthy Affiliate who visit and comment on a post or page out of the kindness of their hearts or expect the same from you in return.

If you want to export the whole list to excel do you not go into excel and title each column the same as in the keyword list and then export it? Hi !
How much time do you spend on average to find one keyword? I know that this varies a lot, but just to get an idea.
Reply
Robert-A Premium
The simple answer is - as long as it takes.
I can spend an hour sometimes longer researching my keywords.
This does pay off and I usually get ranked within a couple of hours after publishing.
Robert
Reply
CC1 Premium
I really like Robert-A's answer. It is like the secret of the Native American Indians who do the rain dance. They have a 100% success rate in their dance simply because they dance until it rains. ;)

For my current niche, I was focusing on the different branches of graphology and very quickly I realized that I was missing a key word. Now, I really did mean to put a space into "keyword" as "key word". That little key that unlocks the rest of the word so that I know exactly how to show the importance to the reader. It was only yesterday after doing the definition for 8 years that I discovered that my interest niche is Personology. Safe to say, I've been searching for a keyword for 8 years.
Reply

Hope you find it and it really does pay to spend some time on your keyword research

Hello. The keyword I was hoping to rank for has a competition number of 150. Is this too high?
Reply
stephhill Premium
By competition number do you mean your QSR (for Quoted Search Results)? There is no real magic number for any given keyword because there are so many factors. Generally the higher the QSR, the more profitable the keyword is, but the more competition there will be for it. I know that is about as clear as mud. What is the keyword exactly?

Hi Steph, Wonderful training! I was surprised to see how results can be radically changed by adding a word like "the" to the keyword term when I began doing this. Initially I thought I was misunderstanding some of the results until I came across this topic in your tutorial. Now I feel I have some great keywords! Oh, and I happily stumbled across how to save my keyword lists too! Thanks so much!

Hi Melanie. Yes, results can change drastically when you add "and" or "in" or "the" or make a word plural. The results do change alot sometimes.

Glad this was helpful.

What is the difference between this and jaaxy? From what I can tell this is a free version of jaaxy...
Reply
edtay78 Premium
Jaaxy has more detailed reports such as ranking statistics etc. Definitely more features too.
Reply
stephhill Premium
That is a great question. First of all to answer your question, no the WA Keyword Tool is not a free version of Jaaxy. Jaaxy and the Wealthy Affiliate Keyword Tool are two different things. Jaaxy is not a free tool. You get 30 free searches with Jaaxy and then you are asked to pay roughly $47 a month. The WA Keyword Tool is free with no upsells or anything like that.

That being said, Jaaxy offers you quicker more detailed information than that of the WA Keyword Tool, but you can typically get everything you need from the WA Keyword, it just might take you a little longer and require a little more patience.

I hope that answers your question.

Dear Steph,
Iggy said to tell you that I love black cats. Want to venture a guess on who Iggy might be? lol
I do have a serious question though work related...now let's say you write a blog based on your love for this black cat. Done deal, right? So, prior to your next blog which may be about calico cats you would do another keyword search in reference to them?
I am really getting hung up on this keyword issue. I think my problem is more an issue with a poorly chosen niche on my part. I should have gone with my first choice and I would not be having this problem. ;(
Reply
stephhill Premium
So, in answer to you question, yes, you would first do a keyword research for the black cats using keywords like "love for black cats", etc and then yes, you can write an article on calico cats and than do keywords like "love for calico cats", etc. I am not sure if that answers your question or not. What is your niche?

And tell Iggy I say "Hi".....He sounds like a nice kitty! :)

I dont get the line that says "About 43 results...". No matter what search I do, i dont get that information. Is there a setting somewhere I need to change?
Reply
ChrisGooden Premium
Yes you need to conduct the search correctly if you want a correct response.

Google's response to any search is tailored to your personal browsing history and to your location. So you will never see what another searcher sees.

Also, you probably used the default search, which asks Google to search for "any" of the words you typed in. That will produce an enormous result, totally unrelated to what you typed in.

If you want an accurate response you need to put your search term in quotes. If you want independent results you need to set your browser to incognito mode, then run the search through a proxy server. If you want complete results then you need to pool results from multiple search engines (Google, Yahoo, Bing, Lycos, etc.)
Reply
jwittwe Premium
Thanks for your response! I was out of town and only had my IPAD....I tried several things to get it to work, with no luck. But now that I'm home on my PC, it works fine there....good enough for now.
