Hi all. I am on course 1, lesson 9 and I need info on how to interpret the numbers on the WA keyword search tool (not Jaaxy thanks, I've seen that video)

Can anyone point me in the right direction please? Cheers

Hi - the best advice i can give you is :
At the start don't worry about the number of searches or the other numbers - look for keywords that have low competition (qsr) don't go for one which have 0 but target below 30.
Why is this - well you will not get much organic traffivc for about 6 months - if you do it will be due to the fact that your site is taking off. But don't rely on this, instead concentrate on having a plan on what your site will look like in 6 moths and aim for it, target people on forums and social media and get responses, show google that your site is worth ranking.
So go for the low qsr keywords, look at the traffic but don't rely on getting anywhere near thisat te start.
Goodl luck with your online journey

Thank you, Dom, this was really detailed and helpful!

I have a question on my own search. My niche is a particular weight loss system called the HCG diet. Searching for "hcg diet recipes" shows 3039 searches (that seems pretty good), 517 for traffic, and just 176 competing pages (yay!). If I understand the numbers correctly, then "hcg diet recipes" is a decent keyword for me.

But can it really be that easy? It was the first thing that popped into my head, I didn't have to brainstorm or dig deeper, it's grammatically correct, I can use it on tons of different recipe posts... Is this really low-hanging fruit? I feel like I must be missing something!

Yes, that sounds pretty good but you have to think about who is typing and searching for that? Is that the person you want? Or are they searching for how to loose weight naturally or safely? or whatever makes sense for your diet product. If you think people will type HCG then maybe that's good. I would not type that so you would not get me.

Thanks for your reply Wayne! Yeah, I know, I'm assuming people have already heard about the HCG diet. But that's the niche I'm targeting -- people who want information/resources/recipes/encouragement for that particular system. It's similar to targeting people searching "weight watchers diet recipes" or "atkins diet recipes." From what I've been learning on here so far (and it's only been a week!) it's better to target a smaller audience, where you have a chance to provide quality content and become one of the voices that's heard, rather than try to reach everyone in the world who's trying to decide on a diet plan!

Thank you for this tutorial. First thing I did after going premium was check out the key word tool and got confused about what the numbers mean. Great help :)

Hi DomW ! interesting discussion.. i am interested to know if the QSR is under 300, but with less traffic & more than 50 searches should be considered...i am quite confused when i did my analysis for back-pain relief my niche..

Traffic all adds up, but for something that low, I'd want at least under 100 QSR or it's not worth it.
