A domain is something that you not only own (just like real estate), it appreciates in value and it will lead to much better rankings in Google. It is also an opportunity to brand yourself and create an authority within a niche.

SiteRubix.com sites are a wonderful starting point and testing ground for your business, but at some point you are going to want to consider moving to a domain of your own. As a PREMIUM member here at WA, you can host 10 websites. As a Premium Plus+ member, you can host up to 50 websites.

In this training I am going to be walking you through the process of transferring an existing website you have created (.siterubix.com) over to your own domain name.

Before you move through this training, you should first own your own domain name. You can buy domains and register them directly through the SiteDomains platform here at WA. Here are instructions on how to do this.

How to Buy a Domain Name With SiteDomains

There is no additional set-up after buying a domain name, upon purchasing you will be able to transfer your new website over to your own domain name using the Move feature.

The "Move" feature takes care of everything, including:

  • Transferring all of the website files/themes
  • Transferring all of your plugins
  • Transferring the user accounts
  • Redirecting all of your old website pages to your new pages automatically
  • Making sure the transfer is SEO friendly

If you have any questions about any of the content within this training, please do let me know and I will give you a hand.

PS. If you have not purchased your domain name yet, you can do so here.

I understand that I can move my domain name from another site to WA. Does that mean that I can use the domain name that I purchased already or do I have to purchase a new domain from WA? If I don’t move the siterubix website because I bought a different domain name somewhere else, can my domain name still be moved to WA?

I suggest you revisit Lessons 1 (Your Own Domain, Your Own Brand) & 2(Move On Over My Brand Has Arrived) of Level 2 of the Entrepreneurial Certification Course, I believe your question's answer is there.

First, you can move the whole website to WA including the domain name.
You can move the siterubix website to a domain you moved to WA. But if you have existing content on your existing website, the one you move to WA, I would just copy the content of the siterubix site to the old site and delete it on the siterubix site.

You should be able to reuse the domain name that you purchased. If you have content on that site when you move the hosting that content won't be transferred unless you take the time to move it as well. (I use All In One WP Migration for that).

Basically, the hosting is where your content lives. Like the furniture in your house, if you move to a new house, you need to take the furniture out and move it separately or your new house will be quite empty.

Both are correct. Wherever the origin of the domain was or is, can be moved to WA. Based on the video that's my understanding. And the great thing is that after the transfer, all of the previous site content information will be transferred to the new site by WA. You can keep the siterubix site up to 30 days, giving the process enough to time to transfer all of the info from "old" site to new domain. I like automation and convenience.!!

If I still have things I want to edit on my website, should I do this before I move my domain to .com or can I work on my website (e.g.edit some content) after the move? I mean, do all the modifications still have to be done on SiteRubix after the domain move?

I would do it after the move. Then you are really motivated to give your best on your own domain. But actually, it doesn't matter.

I did it! I had to point my nameservers from Godaddy - and the tutorials here on WA did not answer all my questions - but I did figure it out and write a blog on my site about it. I saw something on WA about premium members not being able to write tutorials until they have been premium for 3 months and I wanted to record how I did this transfer - to help other people - and remind myself if I forget by the time I have to do it again! http://freetrainingworkfromhome.com/host-a-domain-you-already-own-on-wealthy-affiliate

That was an easy to follow video, and I created my WA domain easily. In following the instructions on the video I checked the Site Domains section and I noticed that the one year registration I purchased "Renews Feb 02,2019". So, since today is March 04, 2018, I am a bit confused. It seems like I lost a month on the deal.

hello everyone i just transferred my siterubix over to my new domain but i have a quick question if someone wouldn't mind helping i would greatly appreciate it. so after going through the process of moving to your own domain the page that comes up once your move is complete mine doesn't look the same as in Kyle's video for example in the video the page reads
-Access Details
-Website admin used
-installed website functionality and options
but mine isnt this way mine says
-Admin details
-Domain details
-site+
>site speed (with an option on or off) mine is off
>siteSSL(HTTPs) says unavailable
>site protect (spam blocker) With option on or off mine is on
-page speed insight (with a chart of my pages)
Page title publish date desktop mobile scanned
V V
page title date
page title date
.........and so on
why does mine appear different did i do something wrong? Or is this how it should look? Also is the siteSSL supposed to be unavailable?

In the bottom right hand corner there is a score out of three, click on it then turn on all of the boxes

there is nothing in the bottom right hand corner and when i try to click unavailable in hopes it would allow me to change it it comes up with a message that says (i copy and paste the message it shows me)
SiteSSL is not available for websites on free SiteRubix.com subdomains. If you wish to install SSL on your website you can move your SiteRubix.com site over to a domain you own, then enable SSL.
