A domain is something that you not only own (just like real estate), it appreciates in value and it will lead to much better rankings in Google. It is also an opportunity to brand yourself and create an authority within a niche.

SiteRubix.com sites are a wonderful starting point and testing ground for your business, but at some point you are going to want to consider moving to a domain of your own. As a PREMIUM member here at WA, you can host 10 websites. As a Premium Plus+ member, you can host up to 50 websites.

In this training I am going to be walking you through the process of transferring an existing website you have created (.siterubix.com) over to your own domain name.

Before you move through this training, you should first own your own domain name. You can buy domains and register them directly through the SiteDomains platform here at WA. Here are instructions on how to do this.

How to Buy a Domain Name With SiteDomains

There is no additional set-up after buying a domain name, upon purchasing you will be able to transfer your new website over to your own domain name using the Move feature.

The "Move" feature takes care of everything, including:

  • Transferring all of the website files/themes
  • Transferring all of your plugins
  • Transferring the user accounts
  • Redirecting all of your old website pages to your new pages automatically
  • Making sure the transfer is SEO friendly

If you have any questions about any of the content within this training, please do let me know and I will give you a hand.

PS. If you have not purchased your domain name yet, you can do so here.

Now you've REALLY confused me ... and I'm NOT a newbie at moving/creating websites.

1) Your screen options have definitely change since this video was created.

2) My domain names are already registered ... and pointing to my web hosting in Toronto, ON.

3) Wordpress has been installed.

So ... how do I move my files?

1) Do I have to now go back and point to WA name servers first and THEN transfer... I'm lost :-(

I've attach a screen print of what I see when I click my Move button.

Let me get this right, you want to move siterubix to your own domain which is outside of WA? If yes, then you can’t. Because the move feature can only be used within WA. What you can do is create a backup of your siterubix site using a plugin and restore it to your own website.

Thank YOU Juneyo
So I do NOT understand the title here: ...which CLEARLY states "How to Transfer a SiteRubix Website to Your Own Domain" but fails to show exactly how.

Will attempt your suggestion.
Thanks again,
Trish

I’m glad it worked out well for you =)

He said if you purchase your domain outside of WA then click To A New Domain. In order to do so, you have to point your DNS to WA first and only then you’ll be able to do that. It got me confused as well before when I wanted to move the siterubix to my own domain.

So am I Juneyo.

Mmm ... which is what I asked in my original question.

Obviously, this video is in bad need of updating. That plugin made it sooooo simple to transfer. Yipeeeeee!

Thank YOU for making this soooo much easier for me.

Hello people.

Quick one: I have purchased a domain via WA and am just about to move my siterubix.com to my.com domain nevertheless my website is still empty (just the about me post and the privacy policy page) as I am yet to learn about how to make my website prettier.
If I move my site now, does that mean that anyone can visit the website via internet browsers?
Should I not wait until I have loaded more content in to my website and then move across to the .com domain I have just purchased?
Your help will be appreciated, thank you very much in advance!

Jose

Hey Jose,

Now that you have purchase a domain name via WA, contact SiteSupport and ask them to please move your free site from SiteRubix (stating the EXACT domain you want moved, of course) and they will do all that for you.

Anyone could visit your website now from where it is hosted in SiteRubix... and yes, once moved, thought the URL will be different, your website will still be on the internet accessible to everyone.

Move the site a.s.a.p. so that Google will have your site indexed under you new domain name.

Hope this helps you.

hey! thanks for helping!

Just double checking I got this straight: I have already moved my siterubix to my .com and have just received a confirmation email stating that my siterubix.com has completely been moved to my .com domain.
Do I still have to contact support and instruct them to move my site to the .com?

Probably not. Good for YOU... so... how did you choose to move your website?
Reply
IHaveADream1 Premium
did it through my site manager and simply followed the training on level, lesson 2. that will do the job won't it?
Reply

Oooh... so you did not have content on a SiteRubix website then... as in theme and plugins installed and posts written and published?

I only had the "about me" post and the privacy policy page. I tweaked the navigation menu and the widgets, that's all. Is that bad :( ?
At this stage I am just following strictly the training and doing what Kyle says in the videos.

So, you have now deleted the SiteRubix site so you won't be dinged for duplicate content (your about me page)... right?
Reply
Zappades Premium
If you move the siterubix site to the domain you don't want to delete the siterubix site for at least two months.
There is no duplicate issue.

Hey Stefan,

He did not move it the way that SiteSupport would have, but thanks for suggesting this in case.

I am really confused now... @Zappades you are right, my siterubix is where it was prior moving it to my own .com domain I purchased.
@Triblu When I was doing that part of the training I did not hear anything about SiteSupport nor Kyle mentioned it during the video tutorial. Am I missing something here?
Thanks both!

I didn't ask SiteSuport for help my self and I remember it saying somewhere not to delete the SiteRubix site for at least two months.
Reply
Triblu Premium
Hey Jose,

So to ease your confusion, make sure that all of your content has been removed from the SiteRubix website so that you are not duplicating content. Then you will be just fine.
Reply
Triblu Premium
Yes Stefan, that is when transferring an existing website because we have to bring it over to a SiteRubix first and THEN SiteSupport moves it to it's own domain. The SiteRubix site then has to remain for a few months before deleting it.

Jose registered a brand new domain with WA and created his new website in that domain.

These are two totally different approaches. Hope I have clarified this as I know it can be frustrating to not understand.

I understand that I can move my domain name from another site to WA. Does that mean that I can use the domain name that I purchased already or do I have to purchase a new domain from WA? If I don’t move the siterubix website because I bought a different domain name somewhere else, can my domain name still be moved to WA?

I suggest you revisit Lessons 1 (Your Own Domain, Your Own Brand) & 2(Move On Over My Brand Has Arrived) of Level 2 of the Entrepreneurial Certification Course, I believe your question's answer is there.

First, you can move the whole website to WA including the domain name.
You can move the siterubix website to a domain you moved to WA. But if you have existing content on your existing website, the one you move to WA, I would just copy the content of the siterubix site to the old site and delete it on the siterubix site.

You should be able to reuse the domain name that you purchased. If you have content on that site when you move the hosting that content won't be transferred unless you take the time to move it as well. (I use All In One WP Migration for that).

Basically, the hosting is where your content lives. Like the furniture in your house, if you move to a new house, you need to take the furniture out and move it separately or your new house will be quite empty.

Yes you can move your Domain name to WA.

Both are correct. Wherever the origin of the domain was or is, can be moved to WA. Based on the video that's my understanding. And the great thing is that after the transfer, all of the previous site content information will be transferred to the new site by WA. You can keep the siterubix site up to 30 days, giving the process enough to time to transfer all of the info from "old" site to new domain. I like automation and convenience.!!

If I still have things I want to edit on my website, should I do this before I move my domain to .com or can I work on my website (e.g.edit some content) after the move? I mean, do all the modifications still have to be done on SiteRubix after the domain move?
Reply
Zappades Premium
I would do it after the move. Then you are really motivated to give your best on your own domain. But actually, it doesn't matter.
