You'll now need to verify your ownership of the domain / web-site. The easiest way (especially on the WA platform) is to use the meta tag and add it to the head section of your website.
Make sure that the Meta tag button is selected and copy the HTML code you see there.
I've obscured my domain details so that I don't fall foul of WA's no-promotion rule!
Apply the meta tag to your Wordpress site by following the steps below, in a new tab or window (you'll need to the Yandex site in a moment, so keep that open).
- Log in to your Wordpress admin area
- Click on Appearance > Editor on the admin menu on the left
- You may see a warning about editing the files. Click "I understand".
- In the list of Theme Files on the right, click on Theme Header (header.php)
- In the code editor (once it's loaded the file), look for </head>
- When you find it, create an empty line just above it and paste the verification code as shown in the image below.
- Click the Update File button below the code editor
- If all goes well, you should see a "File edited successfully" message above the button.
Your website should now have the verification information available for Yandex to see so go back to the Yandex site on the other tab or window and click the Check button.
If all goes well (i.e. if the meta tag is found by Yandex) you will see a new page entitled "Users Managing The Site". You don't need to do anything with this page.
