This video will show you how to setup your WA email account(s) in Apple Mail. It even covers some idiosyncrasies you'll run into when setting up the account(s) and how to eventually conquer them.

***I found the fix for the SMTP server not sticking issue! When you're adding the SMTP server. Uncheck the "Automatically manage connection settings" box and set the port to 587, check the "Use TLS/SSL" option and then select "Password" from the Authentication pull-down menu". It appears that the automatically manage connection settings option fails and so the SMTP server information is not saved.***

I am about to cry... I cannot get it to work. This is a frustrating nightmare that I revisit on occasions and right now its more than frustrating as I have another website at WA that I am managing and the owners are getting irritated with me that we cant solve the apple mac issue. Of course we can get gmail online but I cannot add it to my mac browser.

Ive followed the instructions and set the ports, clicked and unclicked the TSL/SSL but no avail. it will not go online. can you suggest anything ?>

If you go to the Window menu and select Connection Doctor, do both incoming and outgoing fail or just one? If it is just one, which one?

Thanks,
Scott

I went into gmail online and added the helen@entrepreneursmart.com there and that was all fine and using all the settings from the email in the mail on my mac, I cannot get it to go online.

I'll be happy to run a remote session with you (where I connect to your computer and can drive, if you will). It's up to you, as you don't know me, but I've done this for many users here at WA. Hopefully I can fix your Apple mail issue that way.

I can't do it today however because I am not home and it requires my computer (not a phone or tablet) to work.

If you're up for it, Private Message me and we can set it up.

very grateful Scott, I have noticed you have helped others in this way and would be so grateful if you can help me. I can then hopefully help the two owners that email on a site I manage here. Its been an ongoing issue for me, and I just stuck my head in the sand and did a forward in the past but I must get this sorted out.

I am in the UK but if we can get a suitable time that would be great. Ill pm you and Ill fit in with anytime you are free!

I have been struggling for a week. I have numerous interactions with site support without success.
I finally discovered your tutorial. I have done this multiple times though given the quirkiness of Mail I may have missed something. I get the following:

On the outgoing settings, the only thing I see that's off is that the Use TLS/SSL should be checked under the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP).

Other than that, make sure that you're using the correct password for the incoming and outgoing server (they are different) and that you type them in manually. Don't use copy and paste. I've found that it sometimes adds hidden characters and causes the password to be incorrect.

Hello Scott,

"Server settings" is nowhere to be found. That tab reads "Advanced" from my end and even the options are different. I am kinda lost, honestly. Any help?

Thank you very much in advance for your reply.

What version of MacOS are you on and what version of Apple Mail?

It is a very old Mac (Mid 2007) and I cannot update it past OS X El Capitán version 10.11.06 .
I have a newer one (2017), but I shipped it to an Apple repair center days ago.
How can I know what version of Apple Mail I am on?

Thanks again in advance for your help.

If you’d like, I can send you a URL and code to download and run an app that would let me remote control your computer and I can help set up your mail. Let me know.

Not sure how, but I successfully managed to set up my WA email accounts.
I have one concern though: the smtp port associated with the accounts is not the standard one (25) , it displays another number.
Can I safely use my accounts or does the smtp port have to be 25?
Again, thank you very much for your help, I truly appreciate your concern.

It’s actually better to use a port other than 25. Many ISPs block port 25.

Thanks for this, Scott. I already have my one blog email account set up for Apple Mail, but I watched the video anyway to learn about the bugs. I’m sure that when I set up future accounts your instructions and information will come in useful.
Bed wishes,
Steve.
