What is Website Page Speed?

Simply put, it is the total time it takes for a website to load. It is the duration between the time a user requests a browser on their system and the time taken for the browser to render its Content completely.

There are a lot of factors that come into play when talking about the speed of a website. These factors include the type of Content, its quantity and quality. It would help if you also considered other factors like operating devices, distance traveled, connection type and managing devices.

Why is Website Page Speed Important

Firstly, one of the primary reasons why you should care about your website page speed is your conversion rate. If you target a high conversion rate, your pages must load within the first 2 seconds.

Irrespective of the type of website you run. Whether it's an affiliate website or an ecommerce website, as your page speed increases, and your conversion rate continues to increase. To nail it down, the longer your pages take to load, the less likely customers will stay around on your website.

Secondly, you must care about page speed because search engines like Google and Bing care. Search engines have added page speed to one of their ranking factors. So if your pages show up on their first or second pages, you must improve their speed.

I just did the Page Speed Insight for one of my articles. The result for the mobile is no good. It is showing red with a rating of 27.

There are only 2 images I used in this article and both came from the Site Content Image library. All the images in the library should have been optimized by WA.

I also have 2 YouTube Videos embedded inside the article.

Any suggestion I can do to improve my mobile speed for this article?

You have Kraken by default, that's an image optimizer, you can also use a3 lazy load plugin.

Hi Thomas,

Thank you for sharing your experience. While lazy loading is agood way to improve website speed.
I advice you download the images and work on them.

Its simple.

Use the websites i pointed out in page 3 of this tutorial. They will help you reduce image size and also compress it.

That way you will be sure your images are not too bulky. Then you can use the plugins adviced by abieAj to lazylaod.

Another thing i will advice is to do a proper check on your website theme and plugins. Ensure you have only one theme installed. If you have more than one, delete all inactive theme and plugins.

If you do this, your website speed should improve

For which website are you seeing these speeds? This is likely the result of the images, plugins you may have and embedding Youtube videos is definitely going to slow down your website.

Let me know and I can have a look here.

Ayodeji, interesting. Just learned something new about two sites for image resizing and optimization. Thanks for the training about website speed. I agree too many plugins can make load slower.

That is very good.

All thanks to Jofa (https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/jofa). He mentioned them to me when I was struggling with image resizing and compression. They have been very helpful
