In this training tutorial I am going to touch on 4 areas of website creation that will contribute to a better User Experience (UX) for your website visitors. Why is this important? Well first off it is your website visitors that your website content is meant to help. To do this effectively you need to construct your website so that it is not just easy to navigate but visually pleasing. So let us get started.

WEBSITE NAVIGATION

It is always important that your website visitors find it easy to navigate your website. The last thing you want is website visitors to be confused about what to do next or how to find information they came looking for. To provide a good UX it is best to keep things simple by having your most important pages along the top of the screen in your menu bar.

Do not over crowd the menu bar, only one row of menu tabs should be used. If you feel that more will be needed, then consider which pages are in similar categories and place them as drop down menu tabs. This contributes to a better UX and makes your menu navigation look much cleaner and neat. When the user is happy Google is happy and your SEO rankings will improve.

The menu bar of your website should not be more than one row of tabs. Each tab or page should mainly be a category which other pages will fall into. When you look at my website I have one row of menu tabs/pages. Each one is a category that I will build off from. I have a page called “Getting Started” “Who is Perfect for This” “Is This a Scam” “FAQ” “Build a Website” and “About Robert”.

Each of those pages, except the FAQ page, all lead to not only those pages but also will produce a drop down menu with other pages that are relevant to the parent page. For example, under the parent page “Build a Website” I have other relevant pages such as “Free Images to Download for a Website” and “How to Build an Easy Website” plus all of the others seen in the image below.

It is very important that you implement drop down menus because having more than one row of menu tabs will look too crowded. One thing we all must consider when creating our websites is that the majority of people who view it will be using a phone or tablet with a smaller screen. So making your menu navigation as simple as possible will go a long way to improving UX and SEO.

Great training Robert. Totally get you about Adsense —if you're getting 1000's of UV to your website, I'd use that real estate to sell advertising instead (i.e., "Advertise Here").

Thanks. AdSense can only benefit more established websites. So once that happens and a person is making money from their other endeavors, then AdSense I would recommend.

Great post. I must admit, I was one of the people that was chasing Adsense. It's no longer part of my focus, since I am far from 1,000 daily visitors. Thanks!!!!

You are welcome Jelsie. AdSense makes no "sense" for new websites. :)
