There is more to adding an image to your website than you may think.

The first thing to do is search for images that you want to use on your site. Make sure you are using images that are totally free to use with no water marks of copy wrights.

Here are a few good places to find images.

Once you find an image right click on it and click save image as. This will open your file manager. Change the file name to correspond with the image. The file name you give it now will be the title of the image when you upload it to your site.

Now it's time to Optimize your images.

Thanks for the info. Can you explain your comment about amazon images further?

"Here is a tip for you, do not upload images from Amazon and add your own link to it. This is against their terms."

Does this mean we cannot upload a product image we downloaded from amazon and add an affiliate link? I am using amazon images, but not using amazon links on the images. Some of my images I am using internal links. The only images I am downloading from amazon and adding links to are the "Buy From Amazon" buttons. I am assuming the purpose of the Buy buttons are to use your affiliate links.

That's correct, do not add your own link to the image. You can use a downloaded image as long as it is not linked to amazon. They want you to use the ads that they provide. Here is a blog I found about this.

Thank you for the reply.

The Amazon image thing is very confusing since that goes against what Kyle and Jay have communicated in their training. If we are not able to save images and upload them to our site, Jay's niche site (FootballSnackHelments) would be in violation with the football snack try images. It would be nice for Kyle and Jay to clarify this rule. I am just starting out and have a few mini niche sites in mind. All would feature downloading Amazon images of products. I believe most visitors would rather see visuals of a product rather than just text describing it. I would also think having local images would load faster than having linked images back to amazon.

Thanks for the post.

I forgot to mention a featured image on a post. Most of my images are featured images on a post. Is it even possible to link back to an amazon image for a featured image on a post?

No, you can not link a featured image. So you can use a uploaded image from Amazon for your featured image. I'm not sure what training you are referring to. Are you sure they aren't using the image only code that Amazon gives us?

Live Niche Case Study Series for Football Snack Helmets, see the 3rd Video in series at 3:20 - "downloaded all the team helmets from Amazon"

I am wondering if Amazon changed their policies since that video series was posted back in 2015. If that is the case, I completely understand. Just started down a path building out a niche website, purchased a theme focused on the feature images downloaded from Amazon, and now discovered I cant use the site as intended. Just frustrated.

Hi Cathy, thanks for sharing.

Just one question - why do we need to do the Tiny PNG step at all? What does that process add of value, instead of just downloading the image without using it?

Thanks

Natalie

Thanks for asking this question, I see I left it out. I have just added it to the tutorial.
Optimizing your images will save bandwidth and loading time, helping to make your site load faster.

Hi Cathy,
Thank you for this very timely information. I was just reading about this very topic earlier today and my brain short circuited! Your explanation was very simple and easy to follow. I am going to add this to my favorites for later reference. You mentioned using a program called Tiny PNG. Is this a free service, or do you need to pay to use it? If so, how much? Thanks for your help!
