Neat! I do somethiong similar but fall foul of some sites that don't accept special characters. There are these password kjeychains, aren't there? I'm sure theya re very secure but I prefer my method :-)

Yup, some sites don't allow special characters which is just odd. For those I do have a slip of paper to write my passwords down. :)

For some I think you have to!

And if there's a prob with your password for whatever reason and you have to reset it, lots of sites won't let you use a password you've used before. So then it's onto Plan B :-)

Exactly. The system isn't perfect, but it's an improvement over what most people do.

Thanks for this tutorial Ian. I have used a similar method that I made up myself but wasn't too sure about it. Your training now provides me with a way to fine tune my passwords.
