Why Only Instagram and Twitter?

That's because these two social media platforms are the most common places where hashtags are used. However, the tips that are shared here can also be applied to other social media networks like LinkedIn.

Types of Hashtags

This section takes a deeper look at the 4 basic types of hashtags that are commonly used on Instagram and Twitter.

1 - Branded

This is a hashtag that is uniquely created by you with direct links to your business. In other words, you publish all your Instagram and Twitter posts with this unique hashtag.

It's a great way to make it easy for social media users to find your posts and join in the discussion. They are also essential for driving social media campaigns for your product, service, or company.

Sometimes you may need to include the name of your brand in the hashtag in order to distinguish it from others. You could also include your niche or industry when creating branded hashtags for your business.

The key is to successfully brand hashtags making them unique and also easy to remember.

2 - Unbranded

An unbranded hashtag can be used to drive your social media campaigns even though your brand isn't included in it. It might be a hashtag that is designed to build and maintain momentum or one created around a trending topic.

You can make use of common everyday words or phrases for this type of hashtag.

3 - User-generated

User-generated hashtags are best created for social media users to be included in posts that are related to your business or product. It's a great tool for promoting your brand and building social engagement with your brand on Instagram and Twitter.

You can create a hashtag around a trending topic or event in other to generate interest and engagement.

To make this work, it is best that the hashtag comes out as natural as possible. You don't want to create the impression that the hashtag was designed to promote your brand.

To get more people talking, you can create a contest around the topic and offer some kind of prizes.

4 - Events

These are hashtags that are specially designed to leverage popular events.

It could be the Super Bowl, World Cup, or an upcoming fashion show. You could also use this type of hashtag to promote your own events on social media networks.

You may need to include your location such as country, state, or city in order to target those living close to your business place.
