Greetings to All from Adelaide in South Australia!

So, you're ready to write to an eBook!

What I usually hear from everyone first up is this...'where do I start?'...

All you can see ahead is a very empty desert which needs to be filled up with words!

The first thing you have to do is think about how you can break things down into manageable tasks.

This will make the job seem so much more achievable!

One of the first things you need to do...get organized!

There a few steps to think about before you start, which I will cover in the next four pages of this tutorial...

The next page is...

The first steps to writing an eBook...

Thanks for the info. I have only been on WA for a couple of weeks. I have written a couple of ebooks in the past. The only sales I've made were my ebooks! It's a lot of fun. I think too many over think their prize winning book. Write!

Hi Steve,

What do you use to create your ebook?
Reply
CraigUKTV Premium
Hi Yvonne, are you considering publishing it as a kindle book? If so, you can use Word and when it is uploaded it re-formats it automatically.
Reply
VonnieOh Premium
I'm planning to use it as an opt-in freebie to encourage my readers to subscribe.

Publishing as a kindle book means it will be sold and not given for free?
Reply
CraigUKTV Premium
Why not just use Word and then save it as a PDF? That's what I did.
Reply

Did you also created the cover in Microsoft Words?
Reply
CraigUKTV Premium
I used Canva to create the cover and imported it into Word

That's exactly what i wanted to know. I thought word would be right, but it felt too easy so i over thought it hahaha

Excellent series Steve (and great graphics too!)

I have a number of e-books in draft version and I simply MUST finish the tweaking ready for publication.

Your insight here will be a valuable help in this.

Many thanks.

Hi Steve,
Thanks for the tutorial. My biggest problem is (and I've asked before, tho not to you) how do I get the title page and ebook together? I'm not sure how to ask this clearly. You know when you open a new ebook and the title page comes up first then the content page then the rest of the book etc. I can't seem to figure out how to get the title page to come first then the rest of the book. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you again. :)

Well, thanks for looking. If you find something that's great if not I'll just keep looking. Thanks so much. It seems it should be something simple because there are so many ebooks out there and they all mostly have the front, title and image page at the beginning. Wonder how they do it? :)

This was very good information. I'm almost finished my first eBook so I'm keen to read as much training as I can on the matter. I still need to look into what the best title for it may be, but it started out as a blog post and expanded from there so I was thinking to use the keyword for my blog as the title. I think my subtitle is going to be the difficult one to decide. I know it needs to explain quickly what the book is about, but its a tricky one to write concisely. I'll get there. I'm still researching how to put it together and have no idea yet how to get it on Amazon. All in the training on WA though I'm sure. Thanks again

Writing an eBook is something I think every freelance writer should eventually do. The more I wrote the better I get. Sometimes, however, i completely miss the grammar side of things and get the wrong words I place. I think it would be good to have some9ne you trust do a simple lol through to heck for that kind if stuff once you've done it a few times. I know it helps me a lot. A great follow up post to this could be something about marketing.

Thank you for this, Steve, it's so very straightforeward and logical.
I've often thought of writing an e-book as an intermediate step towards financing a good home-based hardware system, that will allow me to continue building up an intricate website and income-building structure.

I have my idea and my target audience, and have been playing around with scripts and drafts for quite a while now☺

Thanks for the info, this encourages me to move foreward!

Hi Steve, thanks for this training, very nice! You kind of pushed me into a decision after reading this. I've been mulling over the idea of writing a book for some time but I have been so busy working on my website that I just haven't had the time.

However, I thought I would look more into it and it the logistics look very simple, even down to publishing it on Amazon as a Kindle book.

I followed your training and decided on which chapters to write about and I even got started writing. In the last few hours I've written 1700 words already so I'm pretty stoked. I'm kinda thinking 30,000 words might be enough for a decent Kindle book.

What's your thoughts on the number of words and how much do you think I should charge for 30k words?

I was thinking along the lines of $1.99 or $2.99
Reply
Steve1958 Premium
It's pretty easy to do!

Go through all of your posts as well...half you book might already be written!

Your book can be as big or small as you want it to be! There's no rules here! Same goes for the price...

It's always better to have the wriggle room to come down in price...there's not much room with the prices you have quoted above...

The choice is yours at the end of the day...and do some research in Amazon to see who else might be selling something similar and ebay...check the prices in both of those platforms!

All the best!
Steve

Excellent tips Steve.

It's quite intimidating attempting writing an e-book by oneself, but I do have allot of ideas. Keyword research is also paramount when trying to rank an e-book title and knowing the target audience is defo the first step to doing it right I'm told.

Have a good one mate :)

I liked this a lot. When I write anything I start with a rough draft and then work from there. I find that is the easiest way for me and with a computer, you can cut and paste making it very easy to rearrange your content so it flows well. Great training and many thanks. Margaret

Great stuff Steve!!! I'm hoping you'll have a training on marketing eBooks that already exist, but this is great, should I actually write an eBook. EEEEKK!!!

There's a part of me that thinks, "Ugh!!! More writing!" I feel as if I JUST got into a groove with writing for my site....could be I'm selling myself short......there seems to be a fine line between being too hard on yourself and not hard enough.....

Anyway, I appreciate your training Steve. Thank you!!!
