Though I do use the keyword search, within the Search Queries of Google Webmaster Tools when looking to either create new content or make existing content better, I also mostly use GWT for getting my new content indexed within hours instead of days.

The normal time it takes Google to index your new content is approximately 3 to 4 days, especially if your website is relatively new. But did you know that you can get your content indexed into Google within hours of publishing it? Yes you can and I will show you how.

The image above shows you the GWT Dashboard and on the side menu you will click on Crawl and then in the drop down you will click on Fetch as Google ARROW 1. Then the screen will display your website home URL with a window to type or paste in your page or post name extension ARROW 2. Then you click on Fetch ARROW 3.

Then down and to the right on that page your website URL will appear along with a button to the right that says, Submit to Index, (See Above Image). UPDATE = THE BUTTON NOW SAYS REQUEST INDEXING. You will then want to click that button to begin submitting your content into the Google index.

Upon doing so you will see the image below appear on screen with two selections you can make. The majority of the time you will want to click on the top selection. That will index your selected page. The bottom selection you want to pick sparingly. With this selection you will index not only the selected page but every other page that it links to.

UPDATE = THIS POP UP WILL ALSO HAVE A BOX FOR YOU TO CHECK WHICH SAYS, I'M NOT A ROBOT.

NEXT UP = You can index two pages of content at one time

Hi Robert, appreciate this information very much. Just yesterday I logged in to GWT and was looking at the information and thought to myself that I should spend more time getting familiar with all the info it provides.

You are welcome Vanessa! There are many more features to GWT than what I explained here and I will be doing another training on those other features in the near future. I just didn't want to cram them all into one training.

But yes, I highly recommend you poke around in GWT. It is how I learned much of what I know now. :)
