Hello, entrepreneurs! Welcome to my tutorial on How to Get Banned from Facebook [What NOT to Do]. This came about from a discussion with another Wealthy Affiliate member in her blog post. I'm mentioning no names to protect the innocent.

Let's get these beginning questions you might have out of the way:

Affiliate links are allowed on Facebook.

No, I've never once gotten my account banned (which is for LIFE, people) nor have I been in Facebook jail (a temporary ban). Never ever. Not even one time. I've never had a post reported before either.

Yes, I use it to promote my business and affiliate links and have for quite some time actually.

But before I get into the different types of time outs Facebook can give you (next page), I'm going to go over why they have these rules, in case you never thought about it. It'll be helpful later, I swear!

So, onwards!

Facebook as a Company

Let's go over this first.

We are not customers of Facebook.

That's right. We're allowed to use their platform for free. Nothing says they have to let us. They can ban whoever they want. They are a free service. You can't even sue them to get your account back.

They can set their rules. By using their platform, you are agreeing to these rules. It's up to you to know what you're agreeing to. You can't just say, "I didn't read the rules!" and expect to get a pass.

They don't have to lift a ban. They don't have to answer your emails and tell you why. They don't need to do anything.

We aren't paying to use their product. It's free.

It was worth repeating. We're users, not customers. We're using their service. We didn't buy it. We aren't paying a subscription fee to use it. We signed no contract with them.

If you open a business page and purchase ads, THEN you're a customer of Facebook and you have more access to customer service for businesses since you're paying them to serve your ad to people on their platform.

This is how Facebook makes money. They have the audience running around using their platform for free, posting selfies and sharing silly, pointless memes, and taking pictures of their breakfast.

Businesses fork over money to put ads in front of all of us bored, sad people desperately seeking likes and validation through the internet.

Keep in mind, Facebook makes millions and billions of dollars. They aren't going to have a problem banning you even if you're paying for ads, either. They won't be hurting by losing our business.

That said, Facebook has competition too. They need to make the general public happy. They don't care to make one individual happy. But if their platform really sucked, no one would be using it. Then no one would be paying for ads. Then they would go bankrupt.

That's the ENTIRE reason rules get made. Outside of an agreement that you don't hold Facebook liable for stuff users post online, the entire set of rules is to try to make as many people happy as possible.

If you really think about it, ALL rules and laws are to serve this purpose, in real life and in the virtual world. If we're talking about legitimate and successful businesses and nations, and not your parents or Adolf Hitler.

Every single law passed or every single Terms of Service page is there to make the user experience happy and protect themselves from things outside their control.

So Facebook, while a gigantic company that might be run by a bunch a greedy people aren't about to create rules just to be dictators and unfair.

Okay?

Where Can I Find Their Policies?

If you're interested in reading their policies for yourself, and I highly suggest you do eventually, you can find them here:

https://www.facebook.com/policies/

However, as most people (read almost all people) never read the policies until too late, I'm going to go onward with this tutorial!

Apparently, Facebook considers you guilty until proven innocent. I belong to a closed group of people on the Keto Diet who like Mexican food, we share recipes, encouragement, commiserations, victories, and occasionally info about new keto products. That’s it. That’s all. It’s fun, friendly and lively.
Last week we were told our group was being shut down because some strange person reported us a a cult! About 500 comments later, FB finally realized it was silly and relented, but what a hassle.

Lol! Yes, but whenever it's a mistake, you can always appeal and get your account/group/page back.

People are so odd!

Thank you SO MUCH for making this all so understandable. I can't imagine how much time it must have taken you!!!

Aw, thank you. I hope I got it mostly understandable. I didn't realize it was going to be as big of a project as it was.

Hopefully, it makes it easier for people to understand than the actual policy pages they have. I navigated a zillion of those things.

One of my ads got deleted when I was GIVING AWAY cow manure. Apparently that is considered to be part of the animal. Ummmm... I don't think they really wanted it any more... LOL

Wow, really?! They probably did have to reject that one because of the no animal parts thing. Crazy!

Wow, so much work has gone into this training, thank you. I have a business page, which I have used for over 4 years, and like you say so much is common sense. People don't like to be spammed in other groups, so I find it interesting when they drop their links all over Facebook and then get annoyed at getting reported. Facebook is a social platform and people need to keep this in mind. Thanks again for this easy to read and digest training, have a great day,
Denise.

It was interesting to find the various weird rules against things I never even would consider just because someone did it before.

Mostly, I kept getting annoyed people liked to tell other people affiliate links aren't allowed on Facebook just because they got slapped for something.

You can't expect not to get slapped when you're promoting something that's age-restricted, or you're spamming it everywhere, and not using it correctly.

Have you found your FB business page of any use? Nobody ever comes to mine but me and the Facebook bots offering to promote it for a fee.
