If you get your web page in front of the people that are looking for a HOT product, it will not take much to convince them to purchase it. Use words / images with FREE shipping, “on sale now,” or just some benefits mentioned in your content to “push them over the edge.”

OK, by the time you finish this step by step tutorial, you will know how to leverage the employees and technology from a multi-billion dollar company to find a HOT product to promote.

Here we go.

Step 1: Go to Amazon's best sellers page: http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers

(**UPDATE**: THE "BESTSELLERS PAGE NO LONGER DISPLAY THE THE TRENDING DATA. HOWEVER, THE "MOVERS & SHAKERS" PAGE CURRENTLY GIVES SOME TRENDING DATA. Go here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/movers-and-shakers )

eBay has a trending page at https://www.ebay.com.au/trending which looks like another good source of hot brand names.

Amazon has changed it's Trending interface a bit, but, it still gives you the products that have been hot sellers.

Reply

Hey Joseph:
That link takes you to the home Best Sellers page. You can click a category to see the top sellers. However, they took away the trending data.

There is some trending data on this page https://www.amazon.com/gp/movers-and-shakers . It gives you the products that has had a surge in sales lately, aka, HOT items.

Amazon is no longer showing this data the way you display. The closest you can get is on Movers and Shakers tab and they only show you a trend that looks like it's based on it's hourly. It's not as specific as what you are showing.
Reply
SquidooSlfMstr Premium
Yeah. They took the trending data away. With the ever (fast) changing environment of the internet, we have to just adjust and move on to a new strategy, or go with what we've got.

The Mover's & Shakers look like a good replacement. I'll update my tutorial. Thanks for pointing that out, "pamagica."

I went to the Amazon best sellers page but did not see # of days on list by each product. Do you need to have an Amazon account to see this info?
Reply

I'm pretty sure you have to sign up for the Amazon Affiliate Program. This should in essence also create an Amazon account if you didn't already see one. Once signed up (its fast and simple) you will have access to all the different programs affiliates can engage in at Amazon.
Reply
SquidooSlfMstr Premium
Hi "jwillie":
I checked it while I was signed in but Amazon removed the "number of days" info. The only info they have is the "red and green" arrows on SOME products.

Obviously I would pick a product that's been trending up since it shows demand is there (at least for now).

Nonetheless, product names are always great to go after b/c people are usually at the "end of the buying cycle" as taught here in WA.

Hi Michael:
You could bank selling stuff on Amazon. There was a course a while back called something like Amazon Selling Machine that taught you how to pick the perfect product and rank them in Amazon.

Didn't want to get into the wholesale or dropship business yet so it wasn't for me.

Good luck with Amazon if you go the wholesale/retail route. Lots of BUYING traffic on Amazon alread :)

I wonder after we understand how to find hot product in Amazon, what should we do next? Build a website around the product?
Reply
SquidooSlfMstr Premium
Hi Nieve,

Yes, you could start building a whole website if you plan on doing more reviews in that same niche. For example, if the product you chose helps you build muscles, and you plan on reviewing other products that help build muscle, invest in building a whole website.

If you plan on doing a review on just this one product, then just build a webpage with a free site like blogger, weebly, squidoo, etc.

Here's two tutorials on writing reviews:

Hi, Greatjob14! You can build a Website around the product or around a NICHE and promote the Site. However, As you may know, you can become an Amazon Affiliates and promote without your own Site. Amazon Affiliates will give you an ID [number] which you attached to the Amazon product description/URL or Code lifted directly off the Amazon gigantic Site. When you put the "code" on your page or Blog, the actual picture of the product you are promoting comes up rather nicely. Whatever your current WA Niche and Site is or will be, you can post a PAGE on that Site, hit the "LINK" icon on top of your typing page and when the LINK window comes up ...just type it where it says ..URL? as you copy it from the Amozon Site and it'll work. I am an Amazson Affiliate and that how I do it ...hope it works for you!

Hi Charlie. I've been looking at different Amazon products lately and have noticed (as of today anyway) that the products simply have a red or green arrow pointing either up or down. I no longer see and indication as to how many days the product has been on the top of the list.

Do you know anyway around this? Should I just explore the products with green arrows?

Thanks for this post! Very helpful!

Hi Alanna:

I like that name. It sounds Hawaiian (and it's my niece's name). How did you get It?

Anyway, I did not know they removed that data from their Top 100 lists. And, sorry, I don't know any work arounds.

This is typical of what online marketers go through...CONSTANT change. But, we just keep moving forward w/ more knowledge and more opportunities than the week before, right?

This is such a minor change I would not sweat over it, Alanna.

You can still pick from the Top 100 b/c relative to the amount of products in each category that in itself tells us that people are buying it.

You'll just have to decide if a "green arrow" or number of reviews or amount of commission you'll make per sale is most important. If you're going to put in a lot of work, I'd pick something that is non seasonal and / or non trendy so you get long term sales.

Are you building an "authority" type site or a "niche specific" site?

Hi Charlie! My name is actually Gaelic. It's Irish for "my child" courtesy of my mother who's of Irish descent. I'm guessing that the red down arrows mean that the sales are in decline and the green up arrows mean that the sales are increasing. I've been considering using Squidoo lenses instead of buying more domain names just to save a few bucks. Are people still successful with Squidoo? Do you still use that method?
Reply
SquidooSlfMstr Premium
Ohhh, hi Gaelic. I never heard that name before...like the uniqueness. I'm sure your mother felt blessed to have you.

I haven't built a Squidoo Lens in ages. They change their affiliate rules all the time and "lock us out" so I've stayed away. I've tried Weebly and am getting traffic to that site, which leads me to wonder if siterubix sites rank as well.

I haven't put effort into ranking a siterubix subdomain site so I can't speak from experience.

Any reason why you wouldn't build your "test" site on a free subdomain on Siterubix?

Just curious.

Hi "LUMOSE":
Sorry for the late response.

Did you create your site/landing page yet? If so, I'd like to see it. I can make some suggestions if you'd like that (you can PM me if you want).

Two basic suggestions in terms of writing your landing page:

CONNECT with your market, i.e. know his/her problems, disappointments, frustrations, what they want, etc.

HELP THEM....somehow. You can easily do this by just sharing your problems and how you solved it. Or, you make a review based on your experience or based on your research.

If you didn't see it, Jay did a webinar on how to create a review site (this is a "hard core" review site, IMO): https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/building-a-proper-review-page-that-converts/play

You can't fail if you don't give up!

Charlie, congratulations on reaching a milestone. thanks for making this training. - Lisa
Reply
SquidooSlfMstr Premium
Hi Lisa:

Good to "see" you again. No problem for the training.

Here's a little secret. Every time I try and teach something to some one (local business clients, a forum member, etc.), they think I'm great:) BUT, it also benefits me because it reveals what I really DON'T know and/or it ingrains SEO strategies or marketing strategies or whatever in my head through repetition.

So, whatever it is that you want to become good at (and make money with), talk about it with whomever wants to learn about it or benefit from it. It helps EVERYONE.

I just met with a local business owner and talked for TWO HOURS about video marketing! I loved telling him what I knew and he loved hearing my ideas. He NEEDS more clients so I offered to just rank his video for free (it only had about 25 Exact searches a month w/ about 54 QSR (quoted search results) and I told him not to expect much...just see if I can rank it and see if he can get a phone call or two)

If he likes the response it brings him he will do more with me (paying me to keep that AND other videos ranking). He has nothing to lose since I'm ranking his video with NO money up front. If I can't bring him customers then I don't deserve to be paid.

I'm sure you're learning a lot here (and maybe from other products you bought). If you can start a friendly chat with a local business owner I'm sure he/she would appreciate your IM knowledge and suggestions if they need more customers.

Tell them how to rank a site or video (to show them you know your stuff) and I (almost) guarantee you they'll say, can you do that for me? :)

By the way, do you know what my potential client is/was paying for a 1/2 page local magazine ad?

$250/mo.

A TV ad?

$2500/mo.!!!!!!! (w/ a 1 year contract....which is broke b/c the ROI was terrible)

This is why he couldn't turn down my Risk Free offer to rank his (professionally done, already paid for) video.

Happy 2013, Lisa.

Charlie

Your training was just reposted today and it says" this training has reached a popularity milestone." - Lisa
Reply
SquidooSlfMstr Premium
Hi again Lisa:

Ohhhhh.....that milestone news is great to hear:)

I understand talking to a business owner can be intimidating. But, if you can help your friend's little business out, you already know something that another business owner doesn't know, especially the small local mom and pops.

Whatever you're doing for your friend can be your "specialty" b/c to you it's the most cost effective or the most stable or whatever reason you want to give. If they don't want your "specialty" service, some one else will....like their competitor.

Just tell them you work with ONE business type in a geographical location so you do not compete with yourself/ have a conflict of interest. If you tell them this they no doubt will be thinking...hmmmmmmmmm, do I want to be the one ranking for that keyword or do I want my competitor to be there.

TIP: Show them when you type in [keyword] who shows up....their COMPETITORS. Ouch, that's painful for them:)

What if YOU can get them on the top of Google?

OK, I better stop babbling:)

Take Care and see U next year,
Charlie

Reply
SquidooSlfMstr Premium
Hi "Healthworx,"
Any physical product can be promoted as an affiliate via Amazon, eBay, LinkShare, Commission Junction, and a bunch of other Affiliate Networks. Amazon is great b/c they up sell very well and you get commission on those products, too, assuming they're not on the "exempt" list.

If it's a digital product, you would just have to search [product name] + affiliate program and dig around.

Hope that helps.

This is a great tutorial. I just started with Squidoo and promoting Amazon. live in a state where i am banned from being a direct associate.

I already knew about bestsellers, but like to quantify my research. You have given some good guidelines as well as your theory behind them.

Thanks.
Reply
SquidooSlfMstr Premium
Thanks Scott. That's a great work around to promoting Amazon and I hope other members caught on to this. Hub pages also offer partnering with them on eBay and Amazon products, I believe.

In fact, the commissions can be just as much partnering as it is if you were an affiliate on your own. Squidoo / Hubpages have a higher commission payout rate b/c they do more sales a month than you.

What I mean is this: if Squdoo does a million sales a month and their commission rate is 8% b/c of it, they split that with you and give you 4%.

On the other hand, if you were an affiliate of Amazon and only sold 30 items a month, your commission rate might only be 4% anyway.

If you make, let's say 101 sales a month, you may get paid 5%. In this case you're better off being an Affiliate directly.

NOTE: I'm not sure what the exact commission tier break down is, but the point is do not think it's not worth promoting an Amazon product w/ Squidoo just b/c you cannot qualify for the Amazon Associates program.

TIP: Just don't build your whole business around Squidoo b/c you DO NOT OWN the site. Therefore, they can change the affiliate program rules at any time and wipe out your income stream.
