What are digital products? Why should you promote them?

Digital products are informational products that don't have any physical properties. An ebook is a digital product. A series of training videos is a digital product. A membership site is also a digital product.

Why promote digital products?

Digital products don't have any shipping or handling costs. Not only that, but once they are created, the costs of updating and sustaining them are minimal. For example, an ebook can be sold thousands of times without any extra work or production costs.

Because of this, digital products usually have extremely high commission rates. The owners are happy to offer 50-75+ percent commissions, because besides dealing with the customers, there aren't that much more additional costs.

Think about it: When you promote an Amazon product, you earn a starting commission of just four percent. For a $25 product, you will earn just $1. To earn $100 dollars, you would have to make 100 sales a day!

Now, it's certainly possible to earn a living from promoting physical products. As you proceed, you can earn up to 10 percent commissions from Amazon, and if you promote $100-$200 products, that's $10-$20 per sale.

But you will definitely earn higher commissions from digital products.

In addition, many digital products have recurring costs. Membership sites are a good example of this, and you will be able to earn recurring commissions. Many of your previous referrals won't go away, so you're looking at an unlimited growth potential without even increasing your traffic rate.

Another great thing about digital products is that they often have upsells, and many affiliate programs will pay you when your referrals upgrade.

Wealthy Affiliate is a good example of the above two digital product advantages. You earn a commission rate of almost 50 percent, and all referrals bring you recurring commissions. There are no "upsells" per se, but additional revenue opportunities lie in the yearly membership and Jaaxy.

You can definitely find digital products at places like Linkshare and ShareASale. But I want to focus on four marketplaces that cater exclusively to digital products.

Interesting you posted this because I very recently posted an article on my site talking about whether you should download a digital version of a specific product vs buying the physical version. I talk about how digital products are gaining steam and more convenient these days.

That's definitely another reason I didn't mention! Digital products are becoming more and more popular, and are the thing of the future. It's great if you can get a head start by promoting them now!
