When you are looking around on someone's website, I am willing to bet, if you don't see anything that will catch your eye, other than a sea of text, there is a good chance many people will leave.

Do you remember when you went from picture books to chapter books? I do and I remember being so upset that I didn't get to look at pictures anymore while I read.

The pictures helped me understand the words and it is the same thing on the internet. No one wants to look at a sea of text and hop in somewhere and maybe pick up what the reader is saying.

Okay enough about pictures in general.

The featured image!

When you have a blog roll that is visible on your site, the featured image will appear with each individual blog post, if the title itself doesn't catch the readers eye, your featured image should!

Your featured image can also be used anytime you post to social media.

The featured image is important to catch someone's eye, the content inside the post better support that awesome featured image though!

I'm on Canva now and I don't see a "Blog Title" option. You think they removed it?

Hey Billy. Canva recently made some major changes to their website. I use Canva. If you tell me what you are trying to do I may be able to help.

Blog Post Header/Featured Image Sizes change all the time, even if Canva had a set size, I wouldn't use it, so you can just create a new image using Custom Sizes and choose an image Width & Height that is used by your WordPress Theme.

I am sorry for the confusion. I just went to canva and typed in Blog, it comes up with "Blog Banner" which is 560x315 pixels. If you can't find "Blog Banner", just go to "Custom Dimensions" in the corner of "create a design" and use 560 x 315 PX.

I hope this helps! Let me know if this worked for you. :)

Definitely a good tip. Different website themes have different sizes, start with a default size and adjust from there! :)

Just checked and they do indeed have a Blog Banner, I've just never used their template :-)

For example, the WA Blog Posts here are resized to 545 x 200, but that image size is too small to upload via WA, so I create my banners as 1090 x 400 and they fit perfectly each time.

You need to take every Blog / Theme as they come :-)

Thanks for the confirmation! Everything needs to be adapted to your style, just depends how and where to adapt. ;)

I play around with different sizes all the time. I have had to resize a few images to use here on WA. 100% agree with you, take every Blog / Theme as they come! :)

Hey Kenny, thank you for sharing this. I have this bookmarked. I did sign up on Canva but never used it much. I'll definitely be going back and reading this again hopefully this week and follow it thru to completion.

Once you figure it out, it is so simple and useful. Creating your own images is better than using others anyways haha!

Thank you for this.
I was so frustrated today trying to upload photos I took with my iPad. I kept getting HTTP errors.
I changed the theme, I deleted one of the plugins, I changed the photos from JPG to PDF...nothing worked.
I will try inserting my photos into this program and maybe I will get past that darn HTTP error.
Thank you for the great lesson.

Putting them though Canva first and downloading and saving them under a new file name should fix the issue.
