This may be the shortest video tutorial you'll ever watch. Very straightforward. How to create a link that opens in a new tab. Once you see it done, you'll never forget how to do it :)

Yes, very. One of the simpler things to learn, but an essential one.

As a newbie can you explain the benefits?

Sure, nick..
when you create a link that doesn't open in a new window or tab then the person clicking the link basically leaves your site when they visit that link. They would have to hit the back button to get back to your site.

When a link opens up in a new window or tab, your page remains open. It's what I prefer not only when creating links for myself, but when visiting someone else's site, too. I prefer their links to not take me away from what I'm reading.
