Step 1) First of all - This training is for those who either have Google WebMaster Tools and AdSense all set up or have reached Course Level 5, Lesson 2 in the WA training. If you are not there yet, just bookmark this, and come back when you're ready!

Google AdSense is a plug-in which you must install via the "plug-in" feature of your Wealthy Affiliate account.

If you haven't yet installed that, do that and come back!

As of this writing, Dec. 10, 2015, Google AdSense version is 1.2.1 and it requires WordPress Version 3.5 or higher.
Author: Google

FYI Facts:

  • Has the ability to install third-party WordPress plugins.
  • Can only be used on sites hosted outside WordPress.com (such as Wealthy Affiliate). WordPress.com does not allow this plugin on its hosted sites.

Hi, I guess that Google Adsense plugin is no longer available. I could not find it. If it's still available, kindly let me know pls so that I can install it too. Thanks for the training.

Google AdSense has recently done away with the plug-in. There is a way to get Google Ads on new sites, but I am not yet familiar with that yet. You would have to look up their newly updated info on how to obtain Google Ads - or, someone here on this forum may be able to provide newer updated info.

Hello, I keep getting "unable to apply changes to your site", I will try to change my theme but is there any other way to solve this? Thank you by the way :)

Are you talking about while inside Google AdSense Managing Ads? If so, yes, I get that too at times. I have also found that if you just ignore and make the changes, they do record correctly after a day or so.

I have no idea what's going on with AdSense, but yes, it has happened to me. But, as mentioned, when I check my site a few days later, all the ads are in the "right" spots on each page where I put them... Sooooo... hey, "if it's not broke, don't fix it!"

This can often occur if you are installing an out dated plugin that is no longer compatible with your version of Wordpress or if you are changing a theme and then it conflicts with a plugin.

Basically if there is any incompatibility between Wordpress,Theme & plugins.

If you have not updated anything or tried to update anything like this then I recommend you contact support.

Seeing that you've posted to my blog post about Google AdSense, I assume that is what you are talking about - right? If Google AdSense is giving you this notice of not being able to apply changes to your site, yes, it may be a theme issue.

However, sometimes I even get those notices on a site that I already have Google Ads on, but have changed a widget or menu item. Sometimes, Google will give you those notices to allow for the changes which may take a few hours or a day. I usually just ignore the notice and check my site later. Up until now, they are usually showing where they are supposed to be showing. So, give it a little time, check your site without logging in, and see where they are showing before you change themes.

Thanks a lot for this, it was much helpful. Though each time i on activate and save, the analytic pops out and say unable to save configuration, that it's probably does not support the theme or plugin. HOW DO I GO ABOUT THAT PLEASE??? Though i'm thinking perhaps it's because my google Adsense has not yet been approved or what do you think or suggest?

Hi - I'll amend my training to tell readers that they need to set up their Google WebMaster Tools first, and get their site verified with Google. This training was meant for those who either have Google AdSense all set up - along with WebMaster Tools, or have reached Course Level 5, Lesson 2 in the training.

If you are not there yet, just bookmark this, and come back when you're ready!

I've got the same problem with Jariko. I already have webmaster tools etc. I ended up G-adsense without a plugin instead.

nope. Google adsense plugin not veryfying my account

Could you elaborate? What do you mean "Google" ..."not verifying account?" It's a plug-in on your WordPress site. Do you mean that it's not "compatible" with your theme?

not going beyond this (see image) from wp dash board.

Well, first of all, this is "Webmaster Tools," not the Google AdSense plug-in that I was referring to in my training offering. If you are trying to link AdSense to Webmaster tools, that's probably addressed in another offering. Try looking around the WA forum, perhaps someone else has already written a training course for that specific problem or issue, but that particular issue was not addressed here. In fact, I have to go over that as well as that is another aspect of Google and the tools it offers. Good Luck!

the photos show google adsense plugin. I dont have web master tools. there appears to be a problem in which google adsense is not connecting my adsense account to adsense plugin (the one in your screen shots)

Hi again, When I click on your image, it shows "Google's WebMaster Tools." This is not part of the Google AdSense plug in that I have outlined here. If you wish to follow this training, please go back, and obtain the one mentioned above: Google AdSense version is 1.2.1 requires WordPress Version 3.5 or higher. Author: Google.

TBH, I have clue to what thats all about.
I set up an adsense account. Installed the same plug in you have I getr to the adsense plugin click settings---> getting started ---> goes to a page asking me to verify my site (has my web address) click it get that image.

Above the photo (cutt off my bad sorry!) says "google adsense plugin"

It seems to me that somewhere along the line, you didn't verify your site with WebMaster Tools. I have no idea which course or lesson where that topic is covered. But, if you look on my screen pics, Lesson 2, second image down, my WebMaster Tools show that my site has been "verified." In this particular training, I only covered the upper right hand box, the Ad Manager box. If your screen doesn't look like this - because your site has NOT been verified, then that's a whole other issue. Perhaps another member can point you to which course and lesson where that was covered???

thank you kindly for baring with me. No really all that techie minded I do think it the verification process. I'll try fix that myself, then continue here.

I apologize. I do know it's in the training "somewhere," just don't know exactly which course / lesson to point you toward. Depending on how far you are in the training, you can always click the coursework and lesson links backward to review. Good Luck!

Hi There, just a techie prob. Gremlins maybe. but working now..did nt have to do anything! Might have been cos I verifyed with GWT.
Reply
MsMoneyHoney Premium
Yes, sometimes it takes a day or two after verifying with GWT. I used the Google code to verify, and there are other ways they offer. So, depending on which method used, it does affect the wait time. Glad it's working for you now! Onward!

A very nice walk-thru for this plugin....I was wondering how successful it has been for you so far? Do you need to get pre-approved?
Reply
MsMoneyHoney Premium
Hi Rosie, thank you for the compliments! Re: pre-approval, not that I recall. I downloaded the plug-in, installed, then activated. It's available to anyone, at least here on Wealthy Affiliate, but it is not (yet) available to those using WordPress.com.

All I know is that Google "usually" plays ads that are relevant to your content. However, with the ability to "re-target," they may continue to bombard people who have moved on from the initial page in order to achieve the repetition that is "usually" required to successfully entice a viewer to click the ad. The bottom line, technology is changing constantly. With that stated, there "may" be a way to "control" Google, or tell it what ads you like over others, but I haven't used it as yet.

Oh sorry to have bothered you. I gathered from the training that you had used this plug-in successfully.

Allow me to clarify. Once again, " ...there "may" be a way to "control" Google, or tell it what ads you like over others, but I haven't used" that feature "as yet." I do use Google AdSense, as that is my site in the pictures used in the training.

What control do you have over ad content? What if the ad is so far removed from your niche? Is there a means of having ads that fit?
Reply
MsMoneyHoney Premium
I believe you can actually name domains that you don't want advertised, but, again, I have not used that feature.
